Cornell & Diehl - Stanhope
Needs Tweaking
This is one of the most handsome looking blends I've seen, with thick matchstick-size chunks of contrasting black and gold that are even more vivid than the photograph shows. But the flavor is mild to the point of blandness. There's a hint of smoky campfire from the Latakia, otherwise it is the Perqiue that dominates with its peppery note. There is also an unpleasant soapiness that comes through every time you re-light. After trying in three pipes (Meer, Peterson, Comoy) I'm hoping to salvage with some more Lat or stronger Burley because I really love the look and feel of this blend.

Sutliff - Wild Honey Suckle
summer scent-sation
Years ago I used to enjoy Stokkebye's Heather Honey (no longer avail.) and this is about as close to that as I've come. I was worried that it would be too syrupy and cloying with the honey, but it is well-balanced and burns cool and steady. I often walk down by the creek where wild honeysuckle grows and this is a fair approximation of that enchanting fragrance. For the 4th of July picnic this year I'm going to load up my king-size corn cob with this and indulge myself with this wonderful scent-sation!
