Peter Stokkebye - Black Cherry Cavendish
Favorite / Strong Cherry, Vanilla, Brandy Flavor
This is my favorite Black Cavendish and I have tried many different brands. The other Black Cavendish I have tried does not have much flavor and becomes bitter towards the end. This is very mild, flavorful and does not have a bite. Black Cavendish is too one-dimensional for me to smoke on its own but when blended with equal parts McClelland Three Cherry Blend and Sutliff Creme Brulee or Sutliff Vanilla Custard it is really nice.
Sutliff - Z92 Vanilla Custard
Favorite / Strong Vanilla Custard / Honey flavor
I have tried many brands and this is my favorite by far. It is mild and very flavorful without the cloying sweet chemical taste of other brands. The vanilla flavor is also very pronounced and not just a hint of like other brands. It lights up well and burns to a fine gray ash. This is one of the few tobacco's that I can smoke by itself without being too one-dimensional although to make it even better I blend in equal parts Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish and McClelland Three Cherry Blend. The ultimate blend is Sutliff Vanilla Creme, Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish and McClelland Three Cherry Blend. I have experimented with many different brand/tobacco combinations and this blend is the best if you like strong cased aromatics like me. I always have a Black Cavendish in my blends to give it the full flavor and sweetness.
Newminster - No.201 Straight Black
Good Smoke / Vanilla, Brandy, Honey flavor
This is a good smoke on par with drugstore variety such as Captain Black. Cavendish, in my opinion, is too one-dimensional and smokes too gunky to smoke on its own. I blended in equal parts Sutliff Vanilla Custard and McClelland Three cherry Blend to make this much more enjoyable. If Black Cavendish is your preference I recommend Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish as it is a superior Cavendish with more flavor and less bitterness than the Newminster and at the same bulk price.
McClelland - M27 - Three Cherry Blend
Favorite / Strong Cherry, Vanilla Creme Flavor
This along with Sutliff Vanilla Custard and Sutliff Creme Brulee is my favorite tobacco. Unlike other Cherry tobacco this one hits you in the face with full cherry flavor. It lights up well and burns to a fine gray ash. I have tried many brands and cherry flavors and this one is the best. This is somewhat unusual as I do not prefer the other McClelland tobacco's as they are a little strong/harsh for me but this is mild and very flavorful. I do not smoke this by itself as it is too one-dimensional but if you like sweet/flavorful/mild aromatics like I do then I recommend blending in equal amounts of Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish, Sutliff Creme Brulee and McClelland Three Cherry blend. I have experimented with numerous blend combinations and this is the best. Since this site does not sell Sutliff Creme Brulee anymore you can substitute Sutliff Vanilla Custard in it's place but the Creme Brulee makes the perfect combination.
Newminster - No.31 Optimal Choice
Good Smoke / Cherry, Vanilla Cream, Brandy Flavor
I was very excited to try this based on the favorable reviews and that Newminster is a new brand. This tobacco is very similar to Macbaren's 7 Seas Red. Optimal Choice flavor is predominantly Cherry and Vanilla Creme with a hint of Brandy. It lights up well and burns to a fine gray ash. I recommend blending this with equal parts McClelland Three Cherries Blend and Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish to get a hit you in the face Cherry knockout.
Lane Limited - BCA
Good Smoke / Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Honey flavor
I was excited to try this based on the numerous favorable reviews. The flavor is one of Vanilla and Dark Chocolate with a hint of Honey. This smoke is very mild and sweet but one dimensional unless blended with equal parts Virginia or Burley. Lane Limited is on par with drugstore brands such as Captain Black but is even more inexpensive than Captain Black. I cannot smoke Black Cavendish by itself as it tends to gunk up in the bowl. I feel at the same price point, the Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish is much better because it has no bitterness and no bite. You can make this much more enjoyable by blending it with equal parts Sutliff Vanilla Custard and McClelland Three Cherry Blend.
Newminster - No.23 Blackberry Brandy
Good Smoke / Chocolate rum cake flavor
I purchased the Blackberry Brandy based on the favorable reviews and I wanted to try the Newminster brand. This blend is almost a full Cavendish with slight hints of brown Burleys/Virginia peeking through. The tobacco smells great, it smells exactly like Chocolate Crumbled Rum cake to me. On initial light up and puff it tastes great but starts to taste slightly bitter and bland from then on. This tobacco may be great for others but I prefer sweet, strong cased aromatics and this, in my opinion, is on par with drugstore brands such as Captain Black. I have to take into account that this is an inexpensive bulk tobacco though. I blended this with tobacco's I had on hand such as MacBaron 7 Seas Red and Peter Stokkebye Peaches/Creme and it turned out much better. Blackberry Brandy may be for you but I prefer Sutliff Vanilla Custard and McClelland Three Cherries Blend over this. I would buy this again as there is not many Brandy flavors out there but I would blend this with Sutliff and McClelland tobaccos.
Lane Limited - 1-Q
Good Smoke / Vanilla Creme, Cherry Cordial flavor
I was really excited to try the 1-Q after reading so many great reviews and the 1-Q is a solid, good aromatic. This is a nice mellow aromatic but not my favorite. My taste may be extreme to most smokers though. I prefer sweet/strong casing/mellow aromatics. The 1-Q is a mild aromatic but I detected a slight bitterness to it. I compare 1-Q to a good drugstore brand such as Captain Black Cherry which is perfectly good as a novice smoke. If you want to stock a favorite bulk blend I recommend Sutliff Vanilla Custard, McClelland Three cherries blend or Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish. I always blend the Cavendish with equal parts Virginia or Burley as Cavendish tends to gunk up if smoked by itself. If you already purchased 1-Q in bulk, you can greatly improve it by adding Sutliff Vanilla Custard and McClelland Three Cherries Blend in equal parts and you will have a very sweet/flavorful/mellow smoke.
Newminster - No.3 Very Cherry
Average / Mild cherry flavor
I had high hopes for the Newminster brand as it is a new brand. This is a good solid tobacco but not my favorite. I do have to take into account that Newminster is one of the most inexpensive bulk brands though. I purchased five different Newminster blends and they were all good but my preference is very sweet/mild/mellow aromatics with no bitterness. The cherry flavor in this brand is noticeable but not as strong as I would have liked and there is a slight bitterness after the initial draw. I ended up blending this with four other blends to make it more enjoyable. If you do not prefer sweet/very cherry aromatic then this may work out for you.
Peter Stokkebye - PS303 Peaches & Creme
Good / Peaches, creme, vanilla flavor
I purchased this based on the reviews. Stokkebye is one of my favorite brands as I enjoy sweet/strong cased aromatics. The bag smell is one of peaches/creme/vanilla but the peaches flavor is very subtle and not as strong as I would have liked. This blend also had a slight bite to it. This is an average blend and if you are a aromatic fanatic like me then there is better Stokkebye blends such as Stokkebye Sweet Vanilla & Stokkebye Black Cherry Cavendish. I ended up blending this with three other tobacco's I had on hand (Newminster Blackberry Brandy / Newminster Optimal Choice / Macbaron 7 Seas Red) and it turned out much more enjoyable after this blending.
Mac Baren - 7 Seas Red
Good Smoke / Cherry, Vanilla, Brandy, Dark Chocolate
I prefer very sweet and mild aromatics. The actual bulk tobacco I received had more black cavendish in it then what the stock photo shows. I would say the black cavendish is about 1/4 of this bulk tobacco. The tobacco I received was also cut much thinner / finer than what photo shows. The tobacco arrived moist, light and fluffy and very easy to pack. The flavor is one of predominantly cherry and Vanilla with hints of Brandy and Dark Chocolate. The tobacco lights up and burns well to a fine gray ash. The smoke is very thick/billowy which I like. This tobacco is mild (average) but not overly mild to the point of no taste. I feel the Sutliff Vanilla Custard or the McClelland Three Cherries blend is a superior smoke although the McClelland bulk is more expensive.
