Rattray's - 40 Virginia 100g
My Holy Grail of Virginias
I have been looking for a really nice, bright and flavourful virginia for a long time and I think this is close to perfection. I really like this one, well worth it and it will definitely be in my rotation from now on when the urge for a clean virginia comes my way.
Cornell & Diehl - Rajah's Court 8oz
Perfect
I try a lot of blends and I am always on the lookout for the "perfect" everyday smoke. This is it for me. It burns well, moisture level is perfect and it's a nicely balanced mixture. I love it.
Comoy's - Cask No.1 3.5oz
Good Solid English
Very nice English tobacco, decent amount for the price. Easy to burn, little dottle. Very robust and solid English. If that's your thing, give it a try, it's worth it.
G. L. Pease - Spark Plug 2oz
Needs some prep
I had to amend this review, I am having a terrible time getting this damn stuff to light and stay lit. I ended up fine shredding it with a knife, letting it dry out a little and still have a hard time. I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt, but to be honest, I got so frustrated I threw it out.
Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus
Marvelous Find
I bought my usual baccy, of Briar Fox and Oak Alley and thought I would try this for a change. Since then I haven't smoked any of my usual. I keep reaching for this one. It burns well and easily. Doesn't bite and is a very satisfying smoke. This has become my go to blend. This is a superb blend.
Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus 2oz
Well behaved
Decent tobacco, I was in the mood for something more of a traditional tobacco like smoke and thought I would give this a try. Its a nice cut, burns well, stays lit and doesn't give tongue bite. It has a good flavour and satisfies. Hence, well behaved. It's a good all day smoke kind of blend. Worth a try.
Cornell & Diehl - Afternoon Delight 2oz
Very pleasant
Not too shabby. I am not a fan of aromatics, the topping on this is very mild and it just rounds out the smoke making it a very pleasant smoke.
Cornell & Diehl - Manhattan Afternoon 2oz
Not bad
This one took a little time to grow on me. I rubbed it out and it burned hot and I couldn't get much of the flavour from it. I tried it with the fold and stuff and had a completely different experience. Its a nice clean and bright virginia. The honey is barely noticable. I am starting to like this one.
Cornell & Diehl - Founding Fathers 2oz
Berry Nice
Good aromatic with little bite. Nice smoke that burns well and is very ... berry ... no that should be in uppercase "BERRY" not goopy sweet but a very berry, fruity smoke. Pretty decent all round.
Cornell & Diehl - Byzantium 2oz
Nice tobacco, well behaved
This is a nice tobacco, I regard a well behaved tobacco as one that lights well, nice amount of smoke, doesn't bite and burns well. This hits the spot. I find the flavour like a mild English with a good flavour and when you just want a good solid smoke, this is a good go to blend.
Cornell & Diehl - Oak Alley 2oz
Well behaved
This is a very well behaved easy to smoke tobacco. Nice flavour and satisfies every bowl. I love Briar Fox and Night Train, but I think this will replace them as my main go to blend. It's a really good smoke.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
Nice VaPer
Reminds me of Capston Blue Flake, really nice and clean VaPer. Very much the virginia forward, clean, bright and an all round good smoke.
Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Blind buy
I love old English blends and I was sold on this one on the history. I was amazed when I first lit up. This is an exceptional tobacco. Light English, well rounded, creamy and smooth. Perfect for an all day smoke. This went straight to the top of my list of English style tobaccos along with C&D Orient Express. It's an amazing smoke and it will be a regular smoke for me.
Cornell & Diehl - Interlude 2oz
Very good virginia
I don't detect the honey that much, it does provide a very subtle sweetness which works really nicely with the Virginias. If you like straight virginia, you will like this tobacco. The topping is very light so it doesn't overpower the smoke. Well worth a try.
Cornell & Diehl - Night Train 2oz
Not too shabby
I am ammending my review on this blend, it has grown on me and I am buying it in bulk later today. Its a really decent smoke, not too sweet and makes for a good all day smoke. I would definitely recommend it.
Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
Outstanding
Wow, this is heavy in Latakia. Rather than overwhelm you it works really well. It burns well and forms a nice ash. It's not harsh, there's a certain smokiness which has it's edged rounded by a creamy finish. This is an exceptional tobacco.
Cornell & Diehl - Five O'Clock Shadow 8oz
Really Good
Nice tobacco, burns well. In fact this stuff loves to smolder. Produces a nice fine ash with very little dottle. Well worth a try.
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Interesting
I wasn't blown away by this at first. However, the more I smoke the more I reach for it. This is a nice mild blend, burns well to a nice ash and takes to a flame easily. I will be buying more, this is really started to grow on me. As a follow up to this review, I just bought a larger tin, this has really grown on me and moving it to 5 stars.
Cornell & Diehl - Gray Ghost 2oz
Worth a try
Don't be put off by the discussion on "cigar leaf" it's very mild and it rounds the smoke out nicely. I was pleasantly surprised by this blend and glad I bought a couple of tins. It's similar to Billy Bud Blonde with less burley and a lot smoother. I really like this blend, it's going to be added to my daily rotation. Try it, you won't regret it.
Cornell & Diehl - Mad Fiddler Flake 2oz
Exceptional
This blend is anoying me (in a good way) The tin note is a rich raisin and reminds me of a pipe tobacco I smoked in England many years ago, but can't quite put my finger on it. I love this blend, it's not overly sweet and has an amazing room note. It's a really decent tobacco and worth checking out.
Cornell & Diehl - Professor 2oz
Really Good mild English
I love English blends, this one isn't a Latakia laden bomb, it has a nice English character with a lightness that makes this ideal for an everyday smoke. Glad I bought a couple of tins as this won't last long.
Cornell & Diehl - Innsmouth 2oz
Solid Choice
Love it, I was sold on the Lovecraft theming, but surprised how good these blends are. Give this a try, it would make for a good all day smoke.
Cornell & Diehl - After Hours Flake 2oz
Outstanding
I thought I would try this tonight, had a quiet night planned with a book. Packed my pipe and lit up, then completely forgot about my book. This is a really nice tobacco. The rum isn't boozy and has a nice toasted molasses taste which isn't overly sweet. The tobacco shines through and overall it's a really pleasant smoke. I had to pop online to add it to my favorites as this will be a regular buy for me. To really appreciate this, find some quiet time, sit back and sip it. You won't regret it.
Cornell & Diehl - Orient Express 2oz
Impressed
New to Cornell & Diehl, I love their homage to HP Lovecraft with "Awakened Elder" I am an English smoker so I thought I would give this a try. This is a really smooth, creamy and solid English. Full of flavor and well balanced. If you are a fan of English blends, give this a try. It's worth it.
Humidification - Boveda 60g Humidity Control Packet-72%
Essential
These are essential for my humidors, I don't even use a hygrometer any more, these packs just do the job and keep my cigars in excellent condition. I have two humidors and these last a long time and just do an excellent job.
Cornell & Diehl - Dreams of Kadath 2oz
Boozy Goodness
I love this mix, it's boozy and flavorful and has a boozy, spicey, apple cider quality to it which works really well. Great blend.
Cornell & Diehl - Miskatonic Mixture 2oz
Amazing
I bought the whole range of Lovecraft themed tobaccos. I love "Awakened Elder" this one reminds me of University Flake. It burns really well, flavorful and is just plain good. It has a very light sweetness and can be an all day smoke. I am glad I bought 2 tins as this will be a regular in my rotation, along with "Awakened Elder"
Cornell & Diehl - Awakened Elder 2oz
The Elder Gods would approve
Ok, I was swayed by the marketing of the HP Lovecraft themed blends. I bought them all no matter how they turned out. This was the first to come in and I have to say, this is actually an amazing blend. The Latakia is light, it burns well to a nice ash. Doesn't bite or burn too hot and it hits the spot. This turned into an all day smoke for me. I love it. This is going to be a daily smoke from now on, it's perfect. The old ones would approve!
Cornell & Diehl - Redburn 2oz
Mild Aromatic
I am not generally an aromatic "guy" I tend to prefer English blends. However, I do have a fancy for a Navy cut once in a while. This has a mild Rum and Molasses topping which doesn't overpower the tobacco and is a mild aromatic. It's a really good baccy and my wife approves of the room note. If you like mild aromatics which don't bite and just satisfies the craving for something sweeter once in a while, this is a good choice. Well worth checking out.
Cornell & Diehl - Billy Budd Blonde 2oz
Very good
Surprising tobacco, without realising there is cigar leaf in the mix I got the impression of a mild "dry sweet" virginia with a little burley. Once I read there was some cigar leaf in there, I can taste it now. This is a really decent tobacco, it's mild and would make for a good all day smoke. It doesn't bite and has a dry sweetness to it which appeals to me.
Rattray's - Old Gowrie 50g
Love it
I love this blend, I picked up a tin on a blind buy and it smokes really well. Reminds me of cabbies mixture. Definitely worth a look.
Rattray's - Bagpiper's Dream 100g
My first Rattray
This a good example of a Scottish Blend, the cognac is pronounced and is really good. It's a very solid aromatic. The only thing worth mentioning is that I think this will ghost a pipe easily, so save this for a pipe you use for this type of blend. This was a blind buy and I will be buying more of it, it's an excellent smoke.
Samuel Gawith - Perfection Mixture 50g
Pleasantly Surprised
Bought this because my beloved Cabbies mixture was out of stock and wanted to try something new. I am a fan of English blends and this was a blind buy. This is a really good English, the vanilla is so slight it's a hint and it manages to make the blend more mellowed out, or rather more "rounded" with a ghost of sweetness. I really like it, I think I will be adding this to my rotation and start looking at other Gawith blends. If you are a fan of English blends, give this a try, it's worth it.
Mac Baren - Navy Flake 3.5oz
Good Navy Flake
I was in the mood for a navy flake and thought to give this a try. It's a really decent flake. Rubs out well but tastes good just folded. The topping isn't overpowering and the tobacco comes through. I should say that it burns hot and I imagine it would give some tongue bite (I use 9mm filters so I don't get bite). Overall, it's worth a go. I really liked it.
Samuel Gawith - Grousemoor 50g
Unsure about this one
It has a pleasant tin note, but I am not 100% if I like it or not. I have put it in my mason jar and shelved it a number of times, then keep pulling it out and smelling it again. This will ghost a pipe so I have limited it to one of my taster pipes. I really can't make my mind up on it. I am leaning towards it being unsmokable. Not because it's a bad tobacco, but because I don't like the taste / smell of it. Who knows? I may come back to it later and just love it, for now, I'll put it at the back of a shelf.
Samuel Gawith - Cabbie's Mixture 50g
Love it
This is my first from Samuel Gawith. It was a blind buy and I really love it. It has a distinctive taste and goes really well with coffee (doesn't everything). I will say that this does need some prep, I found the moisture content very high so it needs some drying time. I keep it in a pouch so it dries out well before smoking. It burns slow and evenly and tastes great. But and it's a big BUT, dry it out before smoking or you will lose the top layer of your tongue and wont taste food for a week. Take the time with it and you'll love it. I really recommend it.
Mac Baren - Original Choice 3.5oz
Very good
Not sure why people describe a tobacco as "good for beginners" is this a euphemism for "Low Nicotine"? I have been smoking for years and recently discovered Mac Baren's Modern Mixture which is a decent Aro while not being overly sweet. I thought I would give this a try and absolutely love it. It's similar to Modern Mixture, but milder and an excellent all day smoke. Great room note and easy going. This is going to be a regular for me, it's a really decent tobacco. Smells and tastes wonderful.
Peterson - 3 P's Peterson's Perfect Plug 50g
Great Tobacco
I love this tobacco, it takes some work to prepare but it's worth the effort. It's a solid plug and is just good solid tobacco. Burns well to a fine dottle. I count this among my favorite tobaccos.
Sutliff - Molto Dolce 1.5oz
Not a fan
Good tobacco, lights well, packs well, smells good. I would give it a try if you like aromatics, for me it was too sweet. Good baccy, but not something I would buy again.
Lane Limited - 1-Q 1.75oz
Not a fan
If you're into armotaics, you may like this. I tried it on a recommendation and it wasn't something I would smoke regularly or buy again. That doesn't mean it's a bad tobacco, just not something I liked. It packs well and burns nicely and not overly topped. Its a good all round aromatic. For me I have to fall in love with a tobacco, this was more a flirtation and first date didn't go so well :-)
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Interesting Tobacco
I am not a fan of aromatics, but this looked interesting so I thought I would give it a go. It's not overly sweet or goopy and has a pleasant Maple Syrup tinge to it. It's a pleasant smoke. I don't think it will be an everyday thing for me, more so when I am in the mood for something a little more fragrant. Not my cup of tea, but still a really good tobacco. It packs and lights well and has a pleasant room note. If you're into aromatics and love maple syrup, give it a try.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Very pleasant
I thought I would try some aromatics as I tend to be an English blend kind of guy. This is a good tobacco. Fine cut and burns well. The maple topping is mild and comes across as a caramel / chocolate but it's not overwhelming. Over all a very pleasant smoke, Worth a try.
Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Took a couple of bowls...
It took me a couple of bowls to get into this, but now its one of my main tobacco's - I love it. It's a really good everyday tobacco.
John Aylesbury - Virginia Blend 100g
Interesting Tobacco
I like this first and foremost, it's almost an "English" blend but with a lighter virginia note. It's a very pleasant all day smoke and worth trying out. I like to think of "John Aylesbury" similar to when you find a good author you like. His Luxury Flake is really good and trying this on a whim worked out well. It's a good smoke :-)
Ashton - Smooth Sailing 50g
Coconut Fanatic
Ok, first off, I am a fanatic for anything that has coconut in it. I picked this up for that one reason alone. The coconut is more a hint rather than an overwhelming flavour. It's a very balanced and mild tobacco and makes for a good all day smoke. Definitely worth a try.
Mac Baren - Danish Mixture Modern 3.5oz
Good Smoke
I am usually an English blend fan, but occasionally I look for something a little sweeter without being overly cased.I tried this on a whim and happy I did. The tobacco has a good flavour that's not overly sweet, but a nice cavendish style tobacco. I ended up finishing the tin rather quickly. I will be getting more in as this is a really pleasant tobacco.
Capstan - Ready Rubbed Blue 1.75oz
Hits the spot
Good tobacco, has a slight cigarette dryness to it, but a good blend all the same. I find it very satisfying when I need a smoke and this is close to hand. I have a number of go-to tobaccos and this is high on my list. I find I smoke it more often than before and it's rapidly becoming a favourite smoke. I find the bowl gets hot, but that doesn't make it "bitey" I never have tongue bite from this tobacco and it burns well and evenly. Good all round tobacco, well worth it.
John Aylesbury - Classic Flake 50g
Very good
I picked up a tin of this at my local brick and mortar and it's a really good tobacco. Rubs out well and has a mild sweetness and clean virginia taste. I find I reach for this more than my usual English blends.
Ashton - Artisan's Blend 50g
Very good English
Not overly strong, not a "Latakia Bomb", very creamy to my taste, but definitely in the English tradition. I tried this on a whim based on some discussion online and I think this is going to become one of my go to blends. Its a good smoke.
Peterson - Aran Mixture 40g
Nice Aromatic
I don't detect the floral notes, I smell coffee when I open it. It has a subtle honey flavour, but overall it's a bright coffee taste to me. I always have a couple of pouches on hand, although I will admit, this baccy can bite. Sip it and you're fine.
Ashton - Senoritas (10 Pack)
Pretty Decent Cameroon Wrapper
Nice cigars, cameroon wrapper imparts a nice spice and it's a decent breaktime smoke. They aren't as firm as something like a Cohiba mini or a Motechristo mini. But a decent smoke all the same.
War Horse - Ready Cut 50g
Not too shabby
This was a blind buy and I really like it, I think this is going to be a regular in my rotation. It's satisfyingly full bodied without being overly strong. A good everyday smoke.
Gold Block - Gold Block 1.75oz
Old Fave
I used to smoke this when I was a young man in England and never appreciated it until I recently picked up a tin since moving stateside. It has a very light sugary sweetness to it (very mild) that makes it a smooth but favourful smoke.
Peterson - Wild Atlantic 40g
My daily go to Baccy
I settled on this and Old Dublin as my go-to English Blends. Really good blend and I always have a pack on hand.
Villiger - Mini Espresso Flavour
Love it
Good coffee and caramel flavour. I picked up 3 tins and they went way to quickly. So I will be getting more.
