Dunhill - My Mixture BB1938 50g
Great Name reborn for the 21st Century
Unfortunately this solid English tobacco carrys to big a name to fill the shoes the Legend has left. None the less a decent smoke.
Dan Tobacco - Devil's Holiday 500g
Top notch packaging of a great Aromatic
Every bit as good as the tin but enough to last you a long summer. Buy it. Try it. Be amazed.
Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Everyday Smoke!
I like this very much. It is the stuff of Legend (Tolkien etc.). But honestly it is a top notch everyday/allday smoke if you like a pipe tobacco you can puff on without thinking to much.
Capstan - Ready Rubbed Blue 1.75oz
Cool, but I like the Flake better!
Every bit as good as the Flake but as it says on the tin not a Flake.
Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
Raiders of the lost Latakia
This is fun in so many ways. First its a great tasting Lat-Tobacco. Second the name is brilliance. And third it is a fun to work with kake/plug.
G. L. Pease - Westminster 2oz
Old Friend?!
Its a smokey, spicy trip down memory lane. Is that you good old "London Mixture". Maybe, maybe not. No matter I am greeting you as I would an old friend.
Larsen - 1864 Perfect Mixture 100g
Sweet an Mallow!
This is a classic Dane. Maybe even a great Dane (not talking dog here). Try it, you wont be disappointed.
Vauen - Auenland 50g
Surprised by Hobbits
I honestly always thought the Shire Tobaccos of Tolkiens mind would be natural or even english mixtures. In this German interpretation they are not. To bad. But that aside I have to admit it is a good aromatic tobacco.
Vauen - Jubilee 50g
Cheers?
To be sure it is a nice tin. But honestly the tobacco is like every other aromatic. Really nothing to celebrate here.
Erinmore - Erinmore Mixture 100g
Not my cup of tea!
This is maybe not even a cup of tea anymore. When a tin carries the name of John Murray on the label the customer gets ideas about what he will get. In this case I couldn't even detect the past greatness. I am left disappointed.
Dan Tobacco - The Mallard 50g
Artist formerly known as "Mellow"
The Mellow Mallard is a nice simple virginia offering that smokes fine. Unfortunately the cut, a rather broken flake style, is not perfect to deliver the taste that wafts out of the tin.
Dan Tobacco - Choo Choo Train 50g
(Charlies) Chocolate Train is coming to town!
This is a fun aromatic offering by Dan Tobacco. In my humble opinion the picture and the tin smell alone leaves me drooling in a proustian madeleine moment. Try it for yourself the Choo Choo Train is on its way.
Dan Tobacco - Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend 50g
Everyday Balkan
Balkan tobaccos are as a matter of fact compared to Balkan Sobraine or nowadays to Heart & Homes Black House. That ist okay but at the same time a bit like comparing your Basketball skills to the likes of Michael Jordan an Lebron James. Therefore Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend is your Everyday Joe. In a very positive way.
Dan Tobacco - Rainer Barbi 50g
Thoughtful!?
Dan Tobacco followed the right script. Build a monument for one of the greatest German pipemakers. Unfortunately the smoking experience leaves a lot to be desired. Its neither natural nor aromatic, its an in-between and not in a good way.
Dan Tobacco - Devil's Holiday 50g
Great Aromatic!
To make this utterly clear: I am a Balkan/English-Man. So saying this is a great smoke, is almost as much a surprise, as hell freezing over. More importantly my wife bought this one and I just wanted to sponge a bowl... Couple of tins later I have to admit it, this is a very (very) good tobacco (not just aromatic) and you can smoke it with or without filter. It is more than worth its price.
Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Magnificent!
For me this one is still the go to option in the Dunhill range. It has the right amount of nicotine, latakia and overall taste. Always a go too tobacco!
Dunhill - London Mixture 50g
Underrated
This is most definitely the sleeper among the Dunhill products. If you like EMP and 965 this one will surprise you (with or without filter). Give it a shot.
Dunhill - My Mixture 965 50g
Subtle in a good way!
If you like EMP you will find this one a bit shy at first and great after the whole bowl.
Dunhill - Aperitif 50g
Here comes yesteryear!
The blurb on the Dunhill homepage (and not just there) says this is a Scottish mixture. I really don't think so. To my senses this is a very good substitute to the top shelf Balkan blends there are right now ("Black House" or "Balkan Blue"). Also this is (as all Dunhill products I know) smokeable right from the start. So try it you wont be disappointed!
Dunhill - Navy Rolls 50g
Substitute!
In Germany where you cant get your hands (at least easily) lay on Escudo this is THE option in the Virginia/Perique-Erea. But compared to the great "E" this is a very strong second place and no matter what you have to like the rolls (aged or otherwise).
Peterson - Irish Cask 50g
Interesting!
Was thinking of this as an alternative to normal Virginia/Perique-Mixtures. And if that is what you are looking for, than look no further. If smoked from a rather wide bowl you can taste virginia and nice floral notes. Try it!
Dunhill - Nightcap 50g
Were is the Magic?
Reading in Forum, how great this tobacco tastes, got my interest going. Unfortunately there is way to much buzz and to little magic. Its like a flat an overly strong Early Morning Pipe. But still its a good basis for mixtures.
McClelland - Balkan Blue 50g
Very good, maybe even great
A very good blend, that is comparable with Hearth & Homes "Black House" (BH). Almost unusual for McClelland its enjoyable right after opening the tin. As a side note its missing a tat of the sweetness BH has and at the same time it is not getting through with the same punch during the second half of the bowl (at least for me). Overall if you like "Balkan" an haven't tried it yet, go for it.
Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Best of the Best, Sir!
This is one awesome blend. I never actually got the chance to smoke a bowl of Balkan Sobranie, but if this is how it tasted, I understand all the hype!
