Presbyterian - Ordained 50g
It's kind of ok
It wasn't the worst thing I've had in my pipe, but I'm not impressed. Maybe it has something to do with me disliking just about anything sutliff. It's mild, and a bit bland for my tastes. I'm no hipster professional at describing the little nuances, so I have no real descriptive review to post. Reminded me of a light marlboro. If it came back for a second round, I wouldn't purchase it again.
Cornell & Diehl - Jolly Old Saint Nicholas 2oz
It's not terrible...
But it's not great either. Basically what I've come to expect from aromatics. They just aren't for me. As far as the mechanics go, a little dry time, lit easily, stayed lit throughout the entire bowl, no bite at all. I won't be making another purchase of this blend, but it wasn't the worst thing I've spent my money on.
Seattle Pipe Club - Hogshead 4oz
The top note... Or casing... Or whatever it is,
Makes this almost identical to the sun bear black locust. I smoked a bowl directly after I smoked the hogs head to be sure. It's a decent smoke, but if you add flavoring, you should mention it in the description. Other than that, I'll smoke it, but I was expecting pure Virginia, not Virginia flavored with whatever tf it is I'm smoking.
McConnell - 5 Year Matured Virginia 50g
What happened? Edit: takes a little air time
Last year's batch was pure delicious delight. This year... What the hell happened? I found this year's batch to be a complete let down. Flat, and oddly flavored, I have no idea what is going on here. Smelled great in the tin, but I've tried out of 4 different pipes so far and I feel fairly disappointed. This bummed me out. Edit: I was hasty with this review. After about 15 minutes in the open air, and a week in the jar, this blend is almost everything I expected it to be, I just had to slow down a little.
Mac Baren - Stockton 100g
I must be doing something wrong
I don't know what's going on here. This stuff is really good, but it bites me pretty hard. I've tried packing it every which way possible, taking my time sipping while it's barely lit but that bite... Good grief. My tongue hates me every time I try smoking this. Maybe I'll just let it sit in the jar for a couple years and try again sometime down the road. It's sad because it has a great flavor.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Black Twist
Burnt BBQ chicken
That's what I got out of it. I hate BBQ chicken, but somehow enjoyed this. I'm flying from that nic hit, which is weird because a smoke cigs like an idiot. F-L-Y-I-N-G. if you're a novice, be careful. No bite. A little hard to keep lit but while it's going, it's doing special things to you.
Cornell & Diehl - Dreams of Kadath 2oz
Smells like oak alley. Just about the same flavor. Good stuff though.
Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve Flake 2oz
It's plum pudding
There's no difference between any of these tobaccos labeled plum pudding. I've smoked back to back bowls of all of them and they're all the same. Delicious? Yes. Gimmicky? Also Yes.
Cornell & Diehl - Shandygaff
I've never been to the sea
Not once, so I have nothing to base a comparison. When you open that bag, what comes out of there is completely repulsive. Like rotting leaves, and a sun dried, crispy fish that you pass on the lake Erie beach. So me being me, I packed her up and set her ablaze. Good grief this stuff is delicious. I'm no expert when it comes to describing the little nuances, but I know what tasty is. The retro is the best part for me. Clears the sinuses, and helps push the nicotine into the veins in the morning. If I could, I'd live in this stuff, rolling around, gathering in the God awful stench like that smear of nasty, dead stink the dog loves to roll in. I'm about to start buying this stuff by the lb.
