Cornell & Diehl - Pennington Gap 2oz
Fine All Day Smoke
Tin note actually reminded me of my Grandma's rice pudding and rum raisin sauce. It was one of those cases where I kept reopening the tin/container to just enjoy that note. Unlike many aromatics, the flavor made good on the tin note's promise. After a little drying time, first light delivered some expected sweetness and put a smile on my face. Second (and final) light brought forth some Perique, then the nuttiness of the burley followed as the sweetness of the Cavendish faded slightly, the Perique faded in the second half of the bowl. The Cavendish and Whiskey contributed to a pleasant room note, and received a compliment from my teenagers who invaded the garage as I was enjoying a bowl. Comparisons to GLP Barbary Coast are inevitable. I find Pennington Gap sweeter and less harsh than GLP BC (although with BC, that harshness fades if you jar it for a few months). Pennington Gap gives a nice nic hit, doesn't give me any bite, and leaves very little moisture in the bottom of the bowl. If you like a sweeter blend that delivers much more than the typical aro, give Pennington Gap a try. A fine all-day smoke for me. Five stars. Also, if anyone from C&D marketing/sales is out there, please consider offering this in an 8 oz tin. Thanks.
