About Me:

Comoy's - Cask No.4
Year later!
A year in the jar has done the job.Good investment!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Flake Unscented
Good flake
I,m a fan of the plug but slicing flakes is a hit or miss so i,m some times overwhelmed by the power due to large chunks, This is for us inept knife users to survive a pipe of this STRONG weed.Good stuff

Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
Nice for the price!
Very good smoke. I love the price and it,s a firm fave. This could be tinned but i,m glad it,s not.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Dark
Another winner!
Smoked many bowls yesterday. This is an alldayer but the nic is present. Every thing i,ve tried from G,H is first rate!

G. L. Pease - Triple Play 8oz
play ball!
good strength.cutting flakes must be an art.i,m no artist unfortunately some times i manage to get it. other times i,m left with a bowl of chunks as hard to light as can be. many matches later i manage a puff or so.maybe a ready rubbed version for the dull knife crowd?

Dunhill - Dark Flake 50g
IF I WAS RICH!
at first light i tasted a muted prince albert.very interestingly it started to taste more vaper. more va than per. i really like this but other than the first light nothing else to compare this to. stands alone one taste i noticed was mc cs darkstar

Hearth & Home - Ambassador's Blend 8oz
purty good
an unremarkable english ,tastes like many others but 45 minutes into the bowl i realized i,m only half finished. second half lasted nearly as long plus the taste really grew on me.all dayer for sure!

Drucquer & Sons - Levant Mixture 100g
hate to do this?
perhaps this will be a mistake. extolling the many virtues of this blend could guarantee that i,ll never see this again but it is so good that trying it once is worth it. unreal!

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Night
NICE!
well well i must say this is the best english i,ve had with burley. it was the first taste that came through the first lite. then a spice filled smoke was over far too fast good stuff!

Cornell & Diehl - Old Joe Krantz
yes grandfather!
i must say this is stronger than indicated. dry smoking, as big as any burley i,ve tried, more complex than the first smell seemed. i mixed big and burley with pa and it was almost as good as this. a winner!

Rattray's - Black Mallory 100g
fair smoke
i,m glad i tried this. i read about it in an old pipes @tobaccos review by a fellow named william serad. iloved his reviews they convinced me to try many tobaccos. never had the chance to try this line before. thanks!

St. Bruno - Flake 1.75oz
not bad
i liked this well enough but my old pipe shop carried ogdens . it seems similar but it was an otc tabac so... seems pricy? na this is canada everything is pricy!

Ashton - Artisan's Blend 50g
another old friend
well! this and consummate gentleman became my two smokes when dunhills nitecap and london blend became hard to find.both good. this ones better. ive never had it for a reasonable price before. very nice!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Jamaican Flake
hard to figure
i,m finding myself smoking this blend in stead of all the others in my stash. it has aromatic qualities plus a fluctuating strength, smokiness, sweetness, lasts forever in the bowl,a new fav for sure. it,s not just brown flake with rum. there is so much more going on. wonderfull blend!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Plug
STRONG!!!!!
will not be ordering this again .not because it,s bad. i just lit up 2 puffs later and i,m full! taste is fab but you do not need to smoke too much to feel the nic. great stuff

Low Country - Cooper 2oz
time on your hands?
this is as long lasting in the bowl as gaslight.it also tastes rather the same but toned down on the lat maybe? best is you can relight later and it tastes just the same! good stuff.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Flake Unscented
sugar bloom
i tried for dark flake unscented but had to settle for the brown instead. lucky me! sweet, perfect humidity, covered in sugar bloom and just right in the nic.will be buying more as funds allow!

John Cotton's - Smyrna 1.75oz
not bad
my old tastbuds probably can,t nuance this product well enough to pick out the flavours so well anymore.it seems tasty but not a favourite glad i tried it though not a bellringer

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Balkan Mixture
Wow!
the most powerfull english i,ve ever smoked.just about the best as well. i had one bowl and had to order again.please don,t ever stop making this.nothing compares. gaslight by pease is good for the evening but this is good anytime!balkan? maybe but i love it morethan any english so far.

Comoy's - Cask No.4 3.5oz
pretty good
this is a run of the mill va. but the price of this said "buy me ,cellar me" so i did. tast is youngish but sloww sipping brings out sweet possibilties

Amphora - Original Blend 1.75oz
starting point
iv,e smoked this blend for more than 40 years. it is my first and still going strong. in canada it,s in every store. i found an amphora x tra pipe in a yard sale years ago and they do go together. price wise you folks win by a mile. good stuff!

Peterson - Irish Whiskey 16oz
older friend
well this is the second blend iv,e tried from the old petersons i used to buy from my old tobacconist.the 1lb presentation is fantastic.this was over the years my first fave smoke. it still may be. sooo good!

Peterson - Irish Oak 16oz
old friend
i,ve just tried this smoke again after a long period of other brands. 1 lb bags brought me back to it. it was a best seller at my old tobacco store.it was a fave back in the day. it can bite but slow sipping fixes that.i,ve never aged it before so experimentation.good stuff

Esoterica - Pembroke 8oz
holy grail?
i,ve managed an 8 ounce bag of this by pure luck! it,s good but i,m not so overwhelmed that i,ll be joining the rest of the baying hounds trying to keep supply nonexistant! it compares favourably to vintage syrian. because vs is easy to aquire i,ll not feel like i,m missing out.good strength.

Cornell & Diehl - Engine #99
NIPPY
found this blend to be a little bitey. perhaps the red va, it has ageing potential. time may let the sugars develop like a good red will. love the muted pirate flavour but this needs more time in the jar

G. L. Pease - Gaslight 8oz
luverly
it looks mean strong nasty. upon rubbing out with some drying time it smokes perfectly. i feel it,s too warm outside for regular consumption. come bow season this is coming with me. i won,t see many deer but the cooler temps will make this masterpiece sing. HOOBOY!

G. L. Pease - Haddo's Delight 8oz
here we go again!
my reviews are becoming pointless. every time i order a new blend it becomes my fave so once again this has happened. i some times wish it was me, amphora brown and my one pipe(id be a lot younger too!) FABULOUS BLEND!

Cornell & Diehl - Night Train 16oz
i think it,s briar fox
my 2 lb order of night train looks smells and tastes much differant than my last batch. it looks like maybe i received briar fox instead.i may be wrong here. still it,s very tasty so ...

Mac Baren - HH Latakia Flake, two 1lb Boxes, with Black Ceramic Limited Edition Tobacco Jar
handle with care
lovely flake. slightly moist but a little drying is all you need. stuffed is a tad one flavourish but rubbed gets you the full show. unfortunately my jar came with a chip out of the jar under the fastener but thats customs fault i believe. it still seals proper so no problem there. heavenly!

F & K - Lancer Ready Rubbed
pleasure
by golly it,s 3 degrees above freezing! then lancers showed up . similar to sg,s balkan flake. may be better. the tabac and a day above freezing since december makes for a delightfull moment. unlike balkan flake this was puffed right out of a new bag! fantastic!

Savinelli - Doblone d'Oro 100g
macbarans?
this is a stouter version of the mac b coins. only i bowl in but very tasty. this was free with a savinelli pipe i purchased. ive jarred it and will wait for springtime.seems a warmer weather smoke. right now it,s very cold. not as bad as last winter(minus 40 burrrr) big pipe!

Mac Baren - HH Vintage Syrian, two 1lb Bags, with Black Ceramic Limited Edition Tobacco Jar
not even close
grand allday english. i tried to suff both lb,s into the ceramic jar. iv.e had to leave two thirds of the second bag, in the bag.pehaps you folks send out heavy lb.s. good on ya very pleased.

Cornell & Diehl - Night Train 16oz
new favorite
ODF is grand BBB is luverly BB is satisfiying. but the train is all of the above and more. rope strong with an addictive flavour. i can,t even describe this adequatly.(apparently spelling has vanished for me as well) no matter this is very very good . recomended!

Cornell & Diehl - Big 'n' Burley
sneaky
burly! big! lite tasting. i get no condimental flavours but the nic hit is sneaky. i wasn,t expecting that. it is somewhat the same as edgworth ready rubbed. although it has been many moons since i,ve had that old blend. maybe i,m too wimpy and old but a big pipe seemed overwhelming. it,s jarred now so some age maybe is the trick.a small bowl maybe the answer. no bitterness so quality is there!

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding
very interesting!
i,ve never tried a crumble before. i,m pretty sure the old girls at the post office nabbed a wee pinch of this for the police to test.(i live near both) maybe the good servants of the public will take up the noble hobby! this is very tasty with a room note that could last for ever. i wish i could afford to buy much more! this may not make it to winter. i,m trying not to smoke this constantly! i.m failing!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Louisiana Flake
good morning!
i get a soapy start .then it goes deep to vaper land. a great start to the day. i suspect the floral is a result of a anti mould addition before blending. most g and h,s blends have this to some degree. 2016 turns out i was wrong this is a flavoring. years ago a cousin sent me condor rr from england. it had the soap flavor as well. too much for me

Newminster - No.52 Ultimate English
fills the hole
ultimate? na but afine all dayer price wise it makes for a fine smoke. don,t look back mr pease it isn,t about to over take you. it starts a day off just fine.

G. L. Pease - Charing Cross 2oz
differant
this is like the bits and bites of tobacco. every bowlfull is different. i love a good balkan. to me it,s greatness is increased by it,s ageability. this fellow pease is the blender of our time!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Sweet Maple Twist
dave,s not here man.
flavoursom, strong to a fault. a struggle to prepare.love the historical aspect.a before bed treat complete with kafka dreams. pairs with crown royal maple finished whiskey to a periliously drinkable degree. very good smoke!

G. L. Pease - Westminster 8oz
treat!
this extraordinary blend is my before bed smoke. i love most blends with latakia. london blend was my very first. long time ago.

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired Ready Rubbed
lasts long
wow the ready rubbed is bang on to the flake. only problem is it will be gone faster because no work is involved. i tried this to make the flake version last a little longer. best smoke ive ever had!

Dan Tobacco - Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend 500g
sipper
smoke this fast and you get a sooty blast. sipped slowly you get a very complex balkan. similar to charing cross. slow it up and enjoy! revisit sept 2014... due to so many different tobaccos having been tried i just started smoking this again. 10 months have made this blend improve a great deal. the strength has leveled out to medium. great smoke

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired 16oz
pinnacle
THE BEST I HAVE SMOKED i like the flakes from almost every body Mac Barens wins first place for now!edit 3 years later i still love this stuff!
