Cornell & Diehl - The Beast 2oz
More like The Gentle Giant
I really liked the flavor of this blend from first puff to bottom of the bowl. I agree with other reviews that state it's not as strong as described. I would call it more of a gentle giant. He definitely got my attention but was not able to put me down for the 10 count. To be fair to C&D, this is part of their small batch series and small batch means just that SMALL BATCH!
Wessex - Brigade Campaign Dark Flake 50g
Sublime Dark Flake
I aways have wondered what all the fuss was about this flake. I've not been able to try it because it's ALWAYS out of stock. I was delighted when I recently got the SP email notice that it was in stock. I immediately headed over to sp with shaking fingers to try to grab several tins. Yes! Finally got some and buddy was it ever worth the wait. This is just a beautiful flake from start to finish. The presentation, tin aroma, prep, burn rate, and rich flavor just reek of quality tobaccos. If I had to pick a perfect flake this one would definitely be near the top of the list. My biggest complaint is I wish it were more easily available than having near heart failure trying to pull the trigger fast enough through sp checkout!
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Bird's Eye
Real pipe tobacco
Now this is what I call the real deal for pipe tobacco. Rich , tasty, and full of wonderful copious amounts of lovely smoke. I get tired of tobaccos that taut themselves as full tobaccos only to be disappointed because they taste like nothing but hot air. Not so here!
McClelland - 40th Anniversary 100g
This is one of the finest Virginia flakes I've ever had (I've tried many, many)! Just a lovely beautiful pipe tobacco with a wonderfully smooth taste. McClelland really is the cream of the crop in the VA flake department. I just bought 10 more tins and it's out of stock again, sorry!
G. L. Pease - Stonehenge Flake 2oz
I do tire of newbie pipers giving a review of pipe tobacco when they don't have clue as to what they are speaking of. If you did your homework and checked a tobacco out by real reviews by knowledgeable pipers on sites like tobaccoreviews.com, you might save yourself some embarrassment by spewing out meaningless blather about a fine pipe tobacco. First of all, to think this would not have some of the Lakeland essence when John Gawith had a hand in it shows a severe lack of discernment. That is what Gawith pipe tobacco is all about, the wonderful Lakeland floral essence. I agree with Joshua L. that the Lakeland essence is hardly even noticeable, if at all. It was done with a very light hand. So children, if you don't like this, you sure better stay away from most all Gawith tobacco! To say this smells like a nursing home is insane! What I get from the tin note is wonderful chocolate floral hay like notes. It is beautiful pipe tobacco, don't let these inexperienced newbies drive you away from it. It's great stuff from the minds of two master blenders and is reserved for pipers who appreciate the finer things in the vast and glorious world of pipe tobacco! Joseph P., Essence of nursing home is a meaningful reaction? Wow!
Peterson - Summertime Blend 2016 100g
I guess I should give up for good on Aro's. This is another one to help cement that thought. To me, it was like smoking hot air, of which did sizzle my tongue a bit. Sorry I took the gamble since this blend was quite expensive.
Dunhill - Day and Night 10-Pack
I couldn't pass this one up, 10 tins of Dunhill's most loved blends for such a great price! Now matter what else I try, I always come back to these. They're like a good friend, something you can always depend on. Thank you smokingpipes.com, definitely THE best pipe and tobacco source in the world!!!
BriarWorks - Country Lawyer 2oz
Good stout flavor
As I seem to lean toward full flavor blends, this one got my attention. Nice real honest tobacco taste! It is strong but not over powering, at least for me. If you are sensitive to stronger blends, you might want to approach this one carefully at first. Also if you don't care for cigar leaf in your pipe best avoid this one. The second you open the can the first thing you smell is the cigar leaf. As I also love cigars, that is a good thing. This line of pipe tobacco is actually put out by C&D. I like the fact that it already comes in a mason jar and is generously filled to capacity. I don't think one more shred of leaf could be fit in. This is a winner in my book. Thank you Briar Works (C&D) for producing this fine blend!
