About Me:
I am 70 years old and retired. I like to try different tobacco blends and change my tobacco with the changes in weather.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Night 2oz
Bayou Night - a great blend for Perique lovers
I received my shipment the first week of October 2013 and finally opened the tin on 1 November and this stuff really hit the spot. I am really starting to enjoy the perique blends as I try different ones. I guess it's the nicotine hit that I get from it. About halfway down the bowl, I begin to feel it and I get more and more relaxed as I finish the bowl. This is one fine perique blend that I will be stocking up on. Although the Latakia doesn't come through as I would like, the Perique really shines.

Balkan Sasieni - Balkan Sasieni 50g
Balkan Sasieni is an okay blend
I finally opened my tin of this blend yesterday after receiving it 3 weeks ago and was really looking forward to trying it. This is an okay blend but I'm hoping that it improves with age. Maybe it's my "smoking technique", but it had some tongue bite to it. Maybe this bite will disappear after aging and improving technique but only time will tell.

McClelland - Craftsbury: Frog Morton on the Bayou 50g
Frog Morton on the Bayou - a good Perique blend
This blend has a really good Perique "flavor" right out of the tin and I will need to order some more so I can cellar it for aging. If it ages the same way that my other Perique and Perique/Latakia blends age, then it will be truly great!

McClelland - Collector: 3 Oaks Syrian 50g
3 Oaks Syrian is definitely Syrian Latakia
I don't know if others notice it, but it seems to me that the Syrian Latakia seems to be milder than the Cyprian version of Latakia. It also seems to age well and gain more of the flavor of the Latakia as it ages. Of course, this is just my opinion and it does not diminish the taste of the blend. It is a wonderful blend that simply improves with age. Definitely a keeper!

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired 3.5oz
HH Old Dark Fired Flake
I tend to agree with most when they say this is a full strength tobacco without the Latakia. Although I like Latakia blends, this flake is a fine tobacco as a substitute for a full English blend. I wouldn't want to smoke it all the time, but it good enough for a break from the Full English blends every once in a while. I'm going to try the ready rubbed version to see how it compares.

Mac Baren - HH Vintage Syrian 3.5oz
HH Vintage Syrian tastes great
I received my shipment of HH Vintage Syrian on 26 January 2012 and tried it and originally I couldn't get much flavor. After I stored it for 1 year and 9 months, I couldn't wait any longer and tried it again. I definitely got the flavor this time around. I do agree with a lot of people that there is some tongue bite, but not enough to take away from the great taste that comes out after aging a bit. I'll compare this to McClelland 3 Oaks Syrian and see how they do against each other.

Cornell & Diehl - Mississippi Mud 8oz
Mississippi Mud and aging
I smoked Mississippi Mud when I received my shipment on 5 April 2012 and it was okay at the time. Then I let it age for ~1.5 years and tried it again and what a difference! This blend seems to get better with age as the perique and Black Cavendish really do come to the fore front. I did notice that I seem to get a more pronounced nicotine high initially and then a relaxed feeling as the bowl went on. I'll have to order more so I can cellar some more for longer and see the results.

F & K - Lancer Ready Rubbed
Lancer Slices
Received my shipment yesterday and smoked a bowl as soon as I got it unpacked. I had a little bit of a problem getting it packed in my bowl, but I assume that problem will go away with a little time and familiarity with the tobacco. I never smoked the Bengal Slices, but if it is as good as this tobacco, it must be damn good. The Latakia and Virginia comes through in the taste, especially the Latakia. This is a really nice flake tobacco with a heady Latakia taste and aroma.

Sutliff - Balkan Luxury Blend 957 1.5oz
Balkan Luxury Blend 957
I just received my shipment of this blend and I must say it is really a very good Balkan blend. The first light gave me that nice Latakia taste and it smoked really nice all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. Sutliff Private Stock is rapidly becoming one of my favorite blends along with Mac Baren, Cornell & Diehl and G.L. Pease.

Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 8oz
Pirate Kake 2, 8, and 16 ounce
I started by trying a 2 oz. sample and I liked this blend so much, I ordered 8 ounces then 16 ounces sizes to store and smoke over time. This blend is GREAT! In the past, I wasn't much of a Balkan/Latakia smoker, but this blend convinced me that I had been missing a lot. This blend is smooth and cool smoking all the way down the bowl and though I don't have a "sophisticated" palate, I know what I like and this is a great smoke!

Mac Baren - The Cube 16oz
The Cube by Mac Baren
I really enjoy this blend, but I've never had a Mac Baren blend that I didn't enjoy! Although I smoke a lot of different blends from different companies, most of my favorites are from Mac Baren and Cornell & Diehl and the cube is one of my favorites. I guess I don't have the sophisticated palate that some folks have and I can't taste some of the spices and flavors that some describe, but I know what I like and I really like this blend!
