Samuel Gawith - St. James Flake 50g
My goto Va/per...
Thanks to St James Parish Louisiana for this spicy but smooth Perique. And Samuel Gawith for the masterful blend. It does need a little airing out as it is fairly moist when first opened. Can't speak to aging it as it is never around long enough at my house. If you want to experience the Perique spice this is a great place to start.

still waiting...where is the Perique?
Got this as a free sample and hate to say I don't care for it much but other smokers may enjoy it. I like a good VA/PER or a rummy Navy flake. I like Escudo, Plumcake and just plain simple Virginia sliced sometimes. What am I waiting on? Taste....this is a very mild smoke, I get no Perique spice and overall a plain (to me) boring smoke. It has no bad traits other than a slight chemical smell upon opening but I did not discern this in smoking. So if you prefer a mild taste this may be your cup of tea. Of course this is why we have such a wonderful choice of tobaccos at Smokingpipes.com, because we all have different tastes in tobacco and food. I think my Cajun is coming out in tobacco also. When a mix has Perique I expect that spicy heat to show through and here it just doesn't.

As they say....classic
My favorite English blend....I can and have smoked it all day and enjoyed it greatly. Unfortunately my family just plain hate the room smell so it is an outdoor smoke around here. When talk of an English mix is about this is the one I lean on for consistency and a mild but rich flavor without the Latakia taking front stage.

Peter Stokkebye - PS400 Luxury Navy Flake
Love it, my favorite Navy flake
I love a Navy flake and this is the best I can get in bulk and the addition of Perique adds a different level than a Navy with Latakia. Both good but the Perique seems to add a little Cajun pepper flavor. Ahhhh...fishing on the bayou with a pipe full and and some sweet tea......don't even care if the fish bite or not.......

Peter Stokkebye - PS403 Luxury Bullseye Flake
Great smoke, just add Rum.
OK, I have tried many tobaccos and like many but MY favorite is not available for purchase. But you can make your own. Start with this and dry out 4 ounces.....then place it in an airtight glass jar and add 1 Teaspoon of a high quality rum...I use Bacardi 8. Let it sit for a week then air it out some and enjoy.....a 5 star perfect for me tobacco. If you like a good navy flake you will love the addition of the perique in this for a little added spice. A displace Cajuns dream tobacco.....Thank goodness for St. James Parish, LA.

Mac Baren - Plumcake 3.5oz
a really rum infused mixture.
Opening the tin was like opening a bottle of fine rum....a sweet caramel and spice fragrance greeted me.....as a lover of good rum straight up this tobacco blend hit all the right notes for me. Rum, Virginia and Latakia...worked hard it will bite a little. Slow down and it smooths out....another nice rotation when the rum bug bites.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 50g
Nice rotation blend
A nice blend of Virginia/Burley....not too sweet and rubbed out provides a clean dry smoke. I seem to gravitate to flake tobaccos....I think I enjoy the whole rubbing out and letting it dry a little while then carefully packing and a long slow smoke.......a very nice product at an attractive price....

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake 50g
FVF what every Virginia wants to be
Smooth, clean and bright.....I like the simple easy smoke this one gives. Makes a good reading smoke as it is easy on the tongue and I tend to smoke in pace with the book so this one works great. I also like this as a mixer to tone down some blends. For example I like Plumcake buy like it much better mixed 2:1 with FVF. Same with St. James Flake, love the taste but it will bite, but 3:1 with FVF and top to bottom same taste but no sting if you over do it. A great product for breaking in a new pipe, burns clean.
