Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning 2oz
Chenet's Cake Rubbed Out?
Give this one some time in the tin/jar because it will no doubt age well. Va/Per disciples line up.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Night 8oz
Too Much
Unless you are interested in putting yourself to the test steer clear of this one. Too much going on, it's like they just wanted to see what would happen with a powerhouse blend of heavy leaf.
Cornell & Diehl - Byzantium 2oz
Interesting Change of Pace
The absence of Virginia leaf makes this a nice change of pace for the traditional English/Scottish smoker.
Cornell & Diehl - Super Balkan 2oz
Kitchen Sink Blend
There's a lot going on here. I'm not in tuned enough to puzzle out all the nuance. Try on a full stomach!
Cornell & Diehl - Bailey's Front Porch 2oz
Not Bad
Easy smoke no doubt. The burley almost takes over to the point you need to be a burley guy to love it.
Cornell & Diehl - Crowley's Best
Harsh
Burley lovers would disagree but I found this too rough. Burley does not smooth over well with Latakia. Pass for me.
McClelland - 2025 - English Cavendish
Go-To All Day
The Virginia experts did a great job pairing some of their best with Orientals for a blend that can do the trick all day any day.
Dunhill - My Mixture 965 50g
Old School
This blend I imagine would pass the test for a pipe smoker from a century ago. Fantastic balance and flavor. The cut is the usual Dunhill standard.
Dunhill - Nightcap 50g
Don't Be Scared
While this blend is full and satisfying it is not overpowering. I'm only sad I waited to try this for fear of passing out!
Dunhill - Three Year Matured 50g
Excellent
The fruit essence here is hardly noticeable. The Orientals are very nice and I'd imagine this blend will age very well. My cellar is stocked.
McClelland - 5100 - Red Cake
Must Try
If you like Virginias you have no excuse for not trying this. Ribbon cut takes the hassle away that may be present with flakes. Does not even get too hot if you get carried away, which you will.
McClelland - 2035 - Dark Navy Flake
Amazing
This is fantastic leaf that has been made even better. No bite and great burn if you treat it right.
McClelland - Personal Reserve: Bombay Court 100g
Another great mild English
McClelland seems to have the touch with Oriental forward English for my tastes. I could smoke this all day. Won't bite or burn too hot either if you get carried away!
McClelland - Oriental Mixture: No.8 100g
My go to Oriental
Very mellow and fragrant. Mild Latakia, the Oriental is the star here. On par with the Frog Morton line IMO.
McClelland - Grand Orientals: Classic Samsun 50g
Top Notch
Love these Va/Oriental blends. Very fragrant and enjoyable.
Cornell & Diehl - Bijou 2oz
Good blend with potential
The 2003 Virginias make this already an "aged" blend. With some more time I imagine the younger leaf gets more rounded too. Looking forward to trying again in 5-10 yrs.
Peterson - Balkan Mixture 50g
Summer Evening Smoke
I don't know that there are orientals here, but the mild Latakia makes this a great smoke for a warm summer night. This and Old Dublin are must try blends.
Peterson - Old Dublin 50g
Burst of Aroma
The Basma leaf here adds more than the usual Oriental leaf. Lights well and burns to the bottom of your bowl. One to stock up on.
Dunhill - Durbar 50g
Solid English
You know what you're getting with Dunhill ribbons, this is no different. Burns well, packs easily. Middle of the road English.
McClelland - Craftsbury: Frog Morton on the Bayou 100g
Another Winner
Along with ATP this blend is fantastic. Addition of Perique makes this perfect for a rainy night on the porch. Burns well with little fuss.
McClelland - Craftsbury: Frog Morton Across the Pond 100g
Favorite English
Syrian Latakia makes this different from any Cyprian mixture. So much more nuance. Get it while you can.
Peter Stokkebye - PS400 Luxury Navy Flake
Another Solid PS Flake
Perfect for hoarding and putting away for years. These flakes all are fantastic for folding as well.
Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Good Entry English
This is great to introduce English Latakia blends to someone. Very mild. Get a feeling for Latakia at the same time. Burns well as all Dunhill ribbons do.
McClelland - 2050 - Oriental Cavendish
Tasty
Very pleasant blend. Doesn't burn too hot or bite. Nice room note from the Oriental leaf. I love the incense like aroma of this one.
Cornell & Diehl - Bailey's Front Porch 2oz
Great Blend
The burley in this creates a great character. Burns cool and slow and is not too strong. Absolutely a porch smoke.
G. L. Pease - Sixpence 8oz
Va/Per With Character
Topping is not too overt, great broken flake to rub out or fold into your pipe. Burns well with some drying and is a great option all day.
G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 8oz
Take Your Time
Great blend for late in the day. Penzance and Nightcap are similar. Broken flake offers different options for packing your pipe. Either way take some time to enjoy.
G. L. Pease - Piccadilly 8oz
English Va/Per?
Not too heavy on either Latakia or Perique, great balance. Easy ribbon cut packs and burns like a champ. All day smoke.
G. L. Pease - Meridian 8oz
Great English
The ready rub presentation makes for a slow smoke. Medium in strength. Good way to get into Latakia.
McClelland - Grand Orientals: Smyrna No. 1 50g
Wonderful
Quality Oriental leaf here, along with McClelland Virginias. A++
Dunhill - Elizabethan Mixture 50g
No Fuss Classic
Fantastic Va/Per. Could be an all day smoke no doubt.
