Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Evening Flake
Another 5 Star Stokkebye Flake
Why the five star review? Some people may reserve this only for Esoterica-esq blends. I either dislike, enjoy or really enjoy a tobacco. This is worthy of top honors. Don’t let the ‘evening’ name confuse you. This is a morning, noon and nighttime smoke that will be a best seller in a few months right up there with their Navy flake. Slightly lighter than their LNF. The hot pressing imparts something I can’t quite articulate but is wonderful. Luxury Navy Flake, in my humble opinion, is one of the top ten bulk tobaccos available all the time (Lancer Slices are my favorite). Now we have a new member (is it new or just new to us here in USA?) that will be held in the same regard as the classic. The Stokkebye name means quality tobacco and this flake is so good I hate to even write a review. The flakes are beautiful. I’ve said this before but Stokkebye takes a lot of pride in producing fine tobacco and has done so for many generations. There’s a lot to love for everyone in this flake. Virginia’s are soft and delicious. Virginia’s are 75% of the taste and just like Navy flake are extremely mellow, mild and flavorful. The Perique adds a smokiness that lends itself to all day smoking. The strength is manageable by even the most nicotine affected smokers. I put one flake on a plate and rolled it out into a rough ribbon cut. I also fold flakes and stuff them. If you smoke a small bowl you can easily fold this flake and get an extra 30 minutes of smoking due to the amount of compressed tobacco you don’t get from a ribbon cut. Had the pleasure of smoking this out of an unsmoked Stanwell. The soft smokey flavor is a beautiful bouquet of floral and spice. Exactly the quality and experience you would expect from such a beloved tobacco company. I have no doubt many of you will have this in your rotation very soon.

Peter Stokkebye - PS41 Cube Cut
Bulk Gem
Peter Stokkebye has a proud tobacco blending tradition and their pride and knowledge comes through with all their blends. Burley is delicious. For far too long I have only occasionally smoked blends with Burley. It’s the ingredient you never knew was missing from your favorite blends. It adds a wonderful nutty, masculine taste to blends that contain it and really makes things complete. For the price this blend cannot be beat. You can literally scoop your pipe in the bag to pack it and begin smoking. Burns like a broken flake yet packs like a shag. One of the simple blends that one could enjoy exclusively for the rest of their lives. You could also blend this with some latakia or Perique. The possibilities are endless.

Seattle Pipe Club - Galloping Gertie 2oz
Huge Stoved Virginia Sweetness
I’ve continued to update my review after each bowl. Joe Lankford isn’t a baker but he makes the best cakes in the world. These are beautiful thick cut flakes from a crumble cake that crumble easily and are to pack. What a great time to be a pipe smoker in the age of the Internet. Before our time men might have smoked five blends in their entire life that were stocked in their small town drug store. Tin note is grassy and clean. No latakia in this one so the tin note immediately strikes as much different than his other cakes. The familiar Virginia note is most noticeable. Pressing the tobacco's together allows all the oils and juices to saturate the cake and brings a deeper flavor that ribbon cut blends. When you smoke a cake there is something there, a deep body, that’s not found with most ribbon cut mixtures (there are exceptions). This is a stoved VA/ PER cake with that black cavendish softness and body that adds depth. Not detecting much from the orientals although my palate may not be as refined as many of you other gentleman. This blend is very sweet and the smoke is like sugar hitting your tongue. After several bowls of this spaced out over a few days my mouth was still overwhelmed with the amount of sweetness delivered as the smoke hit my tongue. I can only articulate what my taste buds are telling me and this may not be considered sweet for you. I know that stoving the Virginia’s can create a sweet, caramelized taste, as I’ve used it for blending. After several bowls I’ve deemed this too sweet for me. It’s a good blend but the sweetness overpowers almost every flavor that comes after it. If you’re an aromatic smoker or prefer very sweet tobacco’s this will be one you want to check out. As always, pick one up and decide for yourself. Tasting notes are so subjective and this may be fantastic for you.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged 2oz
The best aftertaste of any tobacco
Dedicate a pipe to this blend because once you smoke it in a pipe it’s gonna taste like bourbon forever. Maybe that isn’t a bad thing! Truly special. I mean wham, bam, thank you ma’am flavor that melts in your mouth. Something along the lines God would smoke.

Fribourg & Treyer - Vintage Flake 50g
Awesome
Sharp, fermented bread notes from the tin. All the flavors under the rainbow once lit. If you can’t find this in stock I suggest Wessex Brown Flake. It’s very similar.

Wessex - Brown Virginia Flake 50g
Wonderful Wessex
Sour, bread like note straight from tin. After drying time it smokes wonderfully. Really easy to love and smoke. No tongue bite. Exceptional quality.

Wessex - Gold Brick Virginia Plug 100g
Sweet Virginia
The one leaf almost all pipe smokers can enjoy is a good Virginia. Comes as a little 100 gram plug in a cellophane wrapper. Throw it into a Zip-Lok so it doesn’t dry out. It’s a simple but elegant smoke. Sweet notes of molasses and good old Virginia. This is a great little plug that will please almost any smoker. Strength is manageable for almost anyone.

Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River Rum Barrel Aged 2oz
What a Blend
This blend grabs you and won’t let go. Dedicate a pipe to it because I can still taste the bourbon in a Savinelli I used once. This is the top of the pops. The smoky flavors of Joe’s blend always softened by orientals. Did not think I would like it but it’s a blend I would be happy to smoke everyday for the rest of my life.

Mac Baren - Stockton 100g
Heavenly
This is definitely a man’s tobacco. If you wear flannel and cut down trees with an axe all day this is right up your alley. If you’ve ever fought off a grizzly with a Bowie knife... ok you get the point. Like Latakia, Dark Fired Kentucky is cured using smoke. The main different is Latakia production uses more fragrant woods and herbs where as Kentucky uses hardwoods. Huge flavor with stout dark Kentucky notes yet supremely mild and sublime at the same time. Wow did these sell out quick. The smoke is smooth and spicy. Im going with the 4/5 for strength but this, of course, is subjective. The best spun cut tobacco I’ve ever tasted by far. Mac Baren does an excellent job with their packaging and tin inserts. It’s clear they take great pride in their blends. Tin note is very mild with pepper. The smoky pepper note of that fire cured Kentucky is there but is not overly powerful. Beautifully decorated 100 gram containers that will last me a while in my rotation. The coins have the absolute perfect amount of moisture right out of the tin to stuff and light. Very rare to find a tin with the exact amount of moisture for smoking straight out of the container. Light wrapper of Virginia on outside of cut and that wonderful dark Kentucky filling the middle. Dark Kentucky tends to be a fierce bulldog but the wrapping and cavendish progress make it smooth enough for all day smoking. Overall a fine tobacco worth buying. I bought their limited Burley earlier this year as well but am saving that one.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve 4oz
Magic Carpet Ride
If you only had one blend to smoke for the rest of your life this would be it. The most bodacious, bombastic tobacco out there. There is almost no way to describe the flavor. Everyone tastes something different. It’s a Rorschach Test for the tongue.

Nat Sherman - Tabac Sherman Blend #536 2oz
Quality Blend
Everything Nat Sherman makes from their cigars, cigarettes and pipe tobacco is of the finest quality money can buy. This is an excellent English and can hold its own against any other English blend. 5/5

Sutliff - TS-20 Louisiana Perique
A Little Goes A Long Way
This is a beautifully fresh and moist long cut Perique ribbon. The cut is longer than other brands sell. It’s the freshest Perique I’ve ever received and is very moist, the way it should be. I mix this with one part white burley, one part lemon Virginia, two parts Red Virginia and put it into a screw press. Let it sit for a month and you’ll have the most delicious home made plug. Use the Perique sparingly or use a lot of it. The choice is yours!

Hearth & Home - Magnum Opus 1.75oz
As Good As Sobranie
This is one of the best pipe tobacco’s ever made. It’s as good as Sobranie. Perfectly balanced. Truly a work of perfection.

McConnell - Scottish Flake 50g
Amazing
One of the best flakes available. Period.

Rattray's - 40 Virginia 100g
Perfection
Although I’ve been smoking a pipe for years it wasn’t until recently that I had the ability to access Rattray’s line of fine tobacco’s. Every single one of their blends are excellent but this one is a grand slam. The can contains burley and Virginia in various cuts. Halfway through the bowl I had a revelation. ‘This is my blend!’. I found it. Perfection. Beautiful notes of sweetness and sugar with a beautiful floral aspect. I have always considered Solani’s Virginia Flake to be the gold standard of Virginia based smokes. This blend manages the clean flavor and refreshing taste while also using burley. This shall become my daily smoke for as long as I can acquire it. It’s remarkable and I can’t see any pipe smoker finding many things to complain about with this blend.

Mac Baren - HH Rustica Flake 3.5oz
As Advertised
If you served in Afghanistan you may be familiar with Naswar, the extremely strong, oral, jet black snuff. The oral snuff, containing exclusively Rustica and mysterious herbs and spices made the most experienced tobacco user get the spins. I have a bad habit of buying every new tobacco that pops up on the banner of the homepage or having a buddy order it and splitting it with him. This is a great blend, don’t get me wrong and contains nicotine that will be overwhelming for most. It’s amazing for what it is. A strong, balanced blend for those who can handle the nicotine. Reevaluating this blend two weeks later it’s found a spot in my rotation, being smoked out of tiny bowls or mixed with a Virginia flake. Not the most potent tobacco I’ve smoked but certainly the most balanced and tasty at this nicotine level.

Rattray's - Red Rapparee 100g
Most Enjoyable
I only review tobacco’s I have positive things to say about and every Rattray’s blend I’ve tried has been worthy of review. Although made by K&K in Germany (along with just about every overseas blend) Rattray’s has its history in Scotland. These tobacco’s come into stock and stay around work a few days then are gone for 6 months. That says all you need to know. Red Rap has everything but the kitchen sink in it but is blended perfectly. Each bowl gets better and better. Easily enjoyable all day. The oriental and latakia notes are most prominent when smoking. This is an exciting smoke. There is so much flavor from the interplay of all of the different leaves. A fuller, smoky, spicy smoke that will please just about anyone.

Warped - Until the End 2oz
The Best of The Line
The reviews for Warped’s line of tobaccos have been universal acclaim and this one is the best yet. As a current cigar and pipe smoker the blends are perfect for me. Beautiful, dark flakes with a good amount of moisture. The cigar leaf adds a really pleasant tin note. This isn’t drug store cigar leaf. You can taste the quality as soon as the smoke travels through the airway and hits your tongue on the charring light. The dark fired Kentucky blends beautifully with the cigar lead and adds an overall smokiness and spice that is to die for. The cavendish adds some body but doesn’t distract from the main stars of the show. One of the tins will be going away to be opened later but the other will be gone quickly. The whole line is outstanding and this one is my favorite. The tin art of the Legionnaire and his war dog is also very cool. I hope that these tobacco’s are here to stay because the entire line is excellent.

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
The Return Of A Beauty
Carolina Red Flake has been my favorite small batch release by Cornell and Diehl. I’m not really sure what the gentleman is saying about the extraordinary price of this blend because it’s almost the exact same price as every other tin of premium tobacco on this site. The speed at which this blend sells out for the year will tell you all you need to know about how good it is.

Cornell & Diehl - Black Cavendish
Add it to Anything
I smoke no cavendish or aromatic blends but this unflavored cavendish is always in my tobacco chest for sprinkling into some of my own blends. Adding a small amount of cavendish to a blend can affect the flavor of the whole immensely. This can really smooth and round out almost any blend and adds a soft, creamy note.

Drucquer & Sons - Trafalgar 100g
Perfectly Balanced
This beautiful blend is a beautiful song that plays in your mouth every time you smoke it. Extremely clean and refreshing, bowl after bowl can be smoked with no desire for respite. The Virginia and Orientals take center stage with a little smokiness from the latakia. It’s hard to compare this to Blairgowrie because they are both among the best tobacco’s currently in production. The lightly floral, lemon tone of the blend really softens it and I could see anyone who has ever smoked a pipe ordering this for the rest of his life. Exceptional.

Dan Tobacco - Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend 250g
Full and Flavorful
A Balkan blend unlike any other. This has everything but the kitchen sink in it. You get a dark fired va/per coming through with notes of the orientals and latakia. The amount of skill needed to blend so many components to this level of flavor and quality is truly remarkable. 4.75/5

Cornell & Diehl - Smokingpipes 20th Anniversary Blend: XX Flake Dark 2oz
Special
An amazing Va/Per with 18 year old Perique. Won’t be around for long. I won’t go into describing ‘notes of hickory and coffee’ I’ll simply say that this is amazing. Some blends are just truly special and this one really is.

Cornell & Diehl - Smokingpipes 20th Anniversary Blend: XX Flake 2oz
The Perfect Flake
Cornell and Diehl knows how to blend a beautiful mixture. This is one of the most exceptional treats I’ve ever had from them. Tin is full of gorgeous golden flakes. The perfect proportion of the three tobacco’s are used to create a silk line smoke that is absolutely sublime. Bought one can of this and one can of the dark. The orientals add a very lovely floral note. The 18 year old Perique is there but smooth and not overly present. Can’t wait for smoking pipes 50 year celebration flake someday!

G. L. Pease - Spark Plug 2oz
A Solid Plug
So far reviews have been split on this blend. I feel that some folks unfamiliar with plug cuts do not understand how to prepare it and smoke it. Traits of a plug cut - usually whole leaves are pressed together (yes this does include stems in most cans), needs prepared with a knife which can be time consuming. Plug cuts aren’t for most people and I don’t prefer them but I found it hard to believe that GL Pease had put out a substandard product so I bought a can. The blend is excellent. Taste is subjective. Large amounts of Latakia leave an oily film in the mouth that can linger for many hours. Too much latakia in this for me but that may explain the ‘tar taste’ people have described. Gaslight is one of Greg’s most beloved blends and not my favorite of his. If I was marooned on a desert island with 100 cans of this I would still die a happy man. To each his own. The blend is exactly what it claims to be, a well rounded English plug with hints of leather and smoke. Be prepared to spend time slicing and dicing to acquire your desired consistency. Then dry what you have cut. Drying damp tobacco is essential or it will not stay lit. Leave it sitting on a wooden cutting board for however long it takes to get most of the moisture out. I usually pack my bowls the night before and smoke them in the morning or evening. Since my house is about 40% humidity this allows me to smoke the pipe with two flicks of a lighter It’s good folks. Don’t let the negative reviews fool you.

Cornell & Diehl - Evergreen 2oz
Smooth And Creamy
This is a really smooth Va/Per. I typically don’t like tobacco’s with cavendish in them but I really enjoyed this one. Got it free with a Peterson pipe purchase. The wonderful Virginia taste we all love is present but softened by the black cavendish. The blend is not sweet like many cavendish blends. The perfect strength for large bowls of all day use. The Perique does add some smokiness and is detectable. Overall, a winner and worth purchasing.

Lighters - Kiribi Kabuto Black Matte
Functional Art
Update - I used this lighter for one pipe a day for 71 days before I needed to refill it with butane (probably would have even lasted longer if I hadn’t played with it constantly when I got it). I don’t know how they do it but they manage to regulate the butane for maximum fuel efficiency. I got this lighter as a Christmas present from my wife and it absolutely is the best lighter I’ve ever owned. One reason I absolutely wanted the lighter bought from SmokingPipes is because if for some reason something on the lighter should break I know they can lead me to the resources to get it fixed. The site’s customer service is the best in the business. Ok now back to the lighter - It is exceptionally gorgeous and well built. You can feel the quality of the lighter as soon as you grasp it in your hand and spark the flame. The way you use this lighter is different than any lighter I’ve used before. It took me about 30 seconds to get it down. You flip up the gas valve cover’s curved extension using your thumb and flick the striker wheel with your pointer finger. Flame is adjustable from blowtorch size to birthday candle size. Flame is slightly angled. Goodbye rim charring. Filling the lighter literally takes two seconds and the fill lasts an exceptionally long time. I used a huge bottle of Ronson butane to fill mine and it works just fine. I don’t think there is really any need to buy ‘luxury’ branded butane that costs twice as much because butane is butane no matter how fancy the can looks. Flints are easily replaceable and available on this site. The flints come in a cool little glass bottle with a cork stopper and should provide at least a decade of daily use. This lighter will be staying at home because I am not going to risk losing it somewhere. Smoking a pipe should be a relaxing and luxurious activity so put away the gas station lighter and pick up some good hardware that is built to last a lifetime. Good tobacco, a nice pipe and a beautiful lighter will completely change your pipe smoking experience.

Esoterica - Penzance 8oz
Capturing a Unicorn
Was able to get an 8 oz bag after about 4 years of looking. The hype is true. The tobacco is wonderfully smoky and smooth. Definitely one of the best our there and worth the hype. If you have had the pleasure of smoking Germain’s version of The Balkan Sobranie you will immediately recognize the flavor as soon as flame meets tobacco. The quality and varieties of tobaccos that Germain uses for their Esoterica blends produce flavors that can be tasted nowhere else.

Solani - Silver Label - 660 100g
Among The Best
If you’ve ever smoked Rattray’s Old Gowrie you will have a good idea what this tastes like. Comes in a hinged tin that opens like a book. Inside the tin beautiful, long flakes are packaged inside cellophane which is sealed by a sticker. I would recommend repackaging the tobacco as soon as you receive it or putting the tin in a zip-lok bag. Old Gowrie is one of my favorite tobacco blends and this will make for a wonderful replacement when Old Gowrie is out of stock. There’s lots of sweet sharpness from the dark fired Kentucky and red Virginia. Truly top notch and deserving of 5 stars. Blends with dark fired can be pretty strong but this has a nice potency to it without being too much. As many other reviewers agree this is up there with the best of them.

Drucquer & Sons - Blairgowrie 100g
Perfect
Re-reviewing this tobacco- I am convinced now that this is the best pipe tobacco blend one can acquire at any time of year. Absolutely perfect.

Solani - Virginia Flake - 633 50g
Ruins All Other Virginia Flakes
This Virginia flame will ruin all others for you because of how good it is. I will take this other Samuel Gawith’s Full Virginia any day. I love this Solani blend. When I saw on the back of the tin the flavoring was ‘honey’ I was dismayed. I don’t smoke any aero’s. Don’t worry you cannot distinguish the honey except for slightly in the tin more. Clean and crisp Virginia flake. There are many of them but all seem to agree this is up there with the best of them.

Peterson - Nightcap 50g
The Same One
When this was available in bulk from Dunhill I bought my father a pound. Then one day it was no longer available. I’m not proud to say it but I requisitioned several ounces and have been sparingly enjoying this over the past three years. This is the same stuff, although a few years of aging has slightly altered the profile. Latakia forward with the little extra strength coming from the Perique. Exceptionally smooth. Titled ‘Nightcap’ but could easily wake you up in the morning as well. So my friends, if you’re looking for the original formula; it is back (along with the others). There’s a 25 tin per person, per day limit. I’m sure there’s a guy somewhere out there with 2000 tins that his grandchildren will find full of bone dry powder one day (don’t even get me started on Esoterica and Sobranie) but it seems production is back in full swing of the beloved blends of not so long ago are back, and I can attest, the same.

Dan Tobacco - Tordenskjold Virginia Slices 50g
I Can’t Pronounce It But I Can Smoke It
A lovely, light Virginia flake that’s pleasing to lovers of lighter blends. Packaged beautifully in a pile of evenly cut flakes with a beautiful piece of paper draped over the slices. Comes ready to smoke. I did not dry the blend I just folded and stuffed it. Beautiful Virginia/ Per flake (among the best in my opinion). Exceptionally creamy and sure to please almost everyone. A wonderful bowl to start or finish the day. Room note is very pleasant.

Balkan Sobranie - Balkan Sobranie 50g
Don’t Buy It If You Aren’t GoingTo Smoke It
Just like every other pipe smoker on the planet I really wanted to try this. I signed up for email alerts thinking it would never happen. Low and behold a yahoo mail message pops up at the top of my screen saying it’s in stock on Friday the 13th. Logged in and had two in less than 30 seconds. Apparently that’s what it takes to get this stuff. I am going to smoke this tin. Im not one of the people who grabs everything to sell on eBay or put in a cellar for their great grandchildren to smoke. Ok, now to the tobacco. Currently made by Germain in UK. They also make all the Esoterica’s. The label on the tin is cheap looking and not printed well but I don’t care I want what’s inside. Very fine shag (described as ribbon but is much more fine than most) cut in long strands. Lots of moisture. Tin note is mostly Virginia/ Oriental. Lat is definitely there but not forward. After 45 minutes of drying I loaded it into a brand new Peterson 317 that had never been smoked. Super clean taste. No latakia mouth. Once the ember gets going it gets much better. Clean taste of mostly virgina and orientals through the bowl with just enough smokiness from the latakia. Burns to fine white ash. I’m glad I got it and will continue to smoke it until it’s gone. Now I can say I’ve tried it. It only took four years to find but now I know. A great blend, but there are blends available all year long that are just as good by GL Pease, and also his Drucquer and Sons blends.

Filters & Adaptors - 8deco 9mm to 3mm Adapter (2-Pack)
The Only 9mm Adapter Worth Buying
You can find several other 9mm adapters but they are little more than a small plastic plug that rattles around in the pipe. These are snug, and the size of a 9mm charcoal filter. I don’t smoke pipes with filters but after receiving and getting good deals on some gorgeous pipes that were drilled for 9mm I found something to make them enjoyable for me. Down the road the option’s always there to remove it and insert a filter.

Rattray's - Old Gowrie 100g
Oh My, This is Good
The more I smoke of this the more I love it. 16 bucks for 100 grams. That isn’t cheap gas station pipe tobacco prices but for a quality blend that seems a very fair price. This should give almost anyone the ability to buy a can or two. This is my first experience with a Rattray’s blend. Amazingly cool and flavorful. Very clean on the palate. Definitely a lighter blend than I usually smoke. I actually enjoyed this because of the lighter smoking. I realized after smoking this how flavorful and satisfying a lighter blend can be. All I have smoked for years is full flavored blends with pretty good strength. Bottom of the bowl will have you craving another one because of how clean and refreshing it is. No thick oils or tar covering my mouth after the pipe. No bite. A broken flake that burns as well as a shag cut. It never ceases to amaze me what a fine blending house can do with two or three tobacco’s (this is made by Kolhase and Kopp in Germany for Rattrays). Comes somewhat moist in can. Lovely grassy, lemon scent from can with the characteristic raisin smell of Virginia blends). Dried for 15 minutes. After the charring light pipe stays lit until bottom of bowl. Bought 100 gram can (now wishing I had gotten 500 grams). Going to be my after work pipe daily until it is gone. If you love this tobacco and cannot get it in stock you may love Blairgowrie by Druquer & Sons (Blairgowrie is a little bit more stout and contains some Latakia). I could see pretty much any pipe smoker enjoying this blend. Will be purchasing more Rattray’s blends in the future.

F & K - Lancer Ready Rubbed
Slices of Heaven
Waited for about two years to finally grab some Lancer Slices. They are worth the hype. A wonderfully delicious, creamy and cool smoke. Quickly becoming one of my favorite blends.

G. L. Pease - Penny Farthing 2oz
Pease Does it Again
Will Greg Pease go down as the greatest blender of all time? Time will tell but I have never found a Pease blend I’ve had a complaint about. I’m not sure why Greg Pease decided to name this blend after a peculiar Victorian era bicycle but he can do no wrong by me. A flavorful VaPer with a dark fired kick. I’ve always felt that a shag cut gives much better flavor as combustion is even and effective. Packing is as easy as it comes. The perfect blend for packing on the road or on the go. The shag cut does require frequent tamping but it’s a small chore for a good smoke. GL Pease is the King Midas of tobacco and everything he makes is golden.

Samuel Gawith - Balkan Flake 50g
Excellent Flake
Samuel Gawith manufactures quality tobacco blends and this is no exception. This is a more straightforward Balkan blend consisting of just Virginia and Latakia. No orientals here, and that’s fine with me. The dark flakes come quite most and have a wonderful smoky note as we would expect. Folding and stuffing flake tobacco is my preferred method of use and after 15 minutes of air this one burns quite nicely. I’ve just finished a bowl and filling my Peterson 408 gave me an hour and a half of pleasure. Mild flavor. Not too heavy. Easily an all day blend. The floral notes of the Virginia's really do well with the smoky, wood flavor of the delicious Latakia. Absolutely no tongue bite. Samuel Gawith blends come in stock about once or twice a month so do not fret if it takes you a while to pick this one up.

Gifts - Ebauchon Briar Pipe Kit Ebonite Stem-Straight
A Rewarding Project
If you smoke a pipe you really should try making one. It’s a really rewarding project that can be smoked when you’re done! I do not have a wood shop at my house and made my pipe using files, a belt sander and a wood carving knife set. At 25$ it’s fantastic because you can buy another one after you finish. I’ve done three pipe projects so far and each one has gotten much better. The design possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East Flake 2oz
How Had I Never Heard of This Before?
Tin note almost exact match for ‘Quiet Nights’. This is truly one of the best blends I’ve ever smoked. Broken flakes of smoky Latakia. Most blends with a lot of Lat leave a heavy aftertaste from the oils. A very light and creamy smoke with a lovely aftertaste. The orientals really shine. A truly exceptional blend that is always in stock and inexpensive. What more can you ask for?

Peterson - University Flake 50g
Perfect Flake
This is a smooth flake. The lovely, nutty burley flavor really shines through. Wonderful taste and tin note. This was my first Peterson blend and is definitely one that I will order again.

Cornell & Diehl - Sansepolcro 2oz
Get It While You Can
This is a wonderfully flavorful treat. The tin note smells like most blends featuring dark fired tobacco. The taste is where this blend truly shines. The smoke has a wonderful floral note to it. Smooth and delicious throughout the bowl. Get it while you can. This small batch blend won’t be around forever.

Newminster - No.403 Superior Round Slices
Smokey Golden Graham’s
I gave this a shot even though I found Newminster’s Navy Flake to be quite harsh. I just fold the coins and stuff them into the pipe. The same graham cracker taste found in the Navy Flake is present in these coins but not the harshness. The Virginia’s they use have a very distinct taste and when you try it you’ll see what I mean. It tastes like Golden Graham’s cereal. I’d rate the strength at a 3 instead of a 4.

Samuel Gawith - Lakeland Dark 50g
Simple and Strong
This is a man’s tobacco. I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. When I was a boy tobacco was still being grown everywhere in the county. The Amish and just about every other farmer in the state grew tobacco when it was still profitable. Depending on the type being grown, there’s a good chance if you smoked a cigarette, pipe, cigar or chewed tobacco up until the 90’s you were more than likely consuming tobacco grown in Pennsylvania. The second I opened the tin of this wonderful Gawith blend I was 15 again, in a drying barn, surrounded by tobacco bales, being offered a baseball sized clump of Lancaster brand chewing tobacco. Anyone from the United States who’s ever chewed loose leaf American chewing tobacco (Redman, Levi Garret, Lancaster) will recognize the smell immediately. The Dark Fired Kentucky and Virginia combine to produce a distinct raisin smell that’s like nothing else. Add some molasses and you’ve got American loose chewing tobacco. Smoke it the way it is and you’re treated to a wonderfully delicious smoke. If we went back 100 years folks along the eastern coast of the United States would have been smoking pretty much the same mixture. This may be too strong for most. I would rate the strength at a 5 instead of a 4. I would recommend this blend or GL Pease’s Jackknife plug to anyone switching from cigars to pipes. This is one I will keep coming back to.

Newminster - No.400 Superior Navy Flake
Harsh
This has a little bit of bite to it. Not as smooth as many other navy flakes. Still a pleasant smoke. Tastes like crackers. Tin note has the normal Virginia grassiness to it. Very harsh. Don’t know if I got a bad batch or what but not pleasant to smoke.

Samuel Gawith - Bothy Flake 50g
World Class
Some blends need more than one bowl to make an impression on me. After my first bowl I still didn’t know what i thought about it. After several bowls I have come to love this stuff. Tobacco arrived very fresh and quite moist. Dark and sticky flakes. Opening the tin reveals a musty smell with a hint of scotch. You can smell the Latakia smokiness also. Kearvaig is in the Scottish Highlands so I can close my eyes and picture the cold, foggy, rain soaked mornings on which this blend is being smoked on the other side of the pond. Although compromised of mostly Virginia’s the smoke is not nearly as sweet as you’d associate with a pure Virginia Flake. The Latakia and the Scotch turn this flake into something pleasantly heavier. I’ll order again when it comes back into stock as these tend to go very quickly.

Esoterica - Dunbar 2oz
Three Years of Waiting
I finally got some. Esoterica’s formula seems to be keeping their output extremely small and by doing so it keeps the hype and rarity of their tobacco always on the minds of smokers. Esoterica blends go for hundreds on auction sites which seems crazy to me. The high demand and low production reminds me of certain brands of quality bourbon and the extreme lengths people go to acquire them. I finally acquired a tin of this after about three years of waiting. Got an email alert and immediately logged in and picked up this and another Esoterica blend. I’d say that they were all completely gone within 30 minutes, as some friends I alerted were out of luck when they tried to get some. I don’t stash 25 tins in my cellar to smoke when I’m 75. I open the tin and smoke it every so often. Tin notes of raisins and figs. About as smooth a smoke as can be. Virgina’s are very enjoyable for just about everyone and this has seven different kinds of Virginia’s in it, along with Perique. Remarkable flavor. There is a wonderful floral top note I’ve yet to taste in any other Virginia blend. The floral lemon note to this blend is unlike anything I have yet to smoke. The Perique must be used sparingly because hardly any smokiness associated with the Perique was noticeable to me. Upon opening the tin you can see the 7 different types of leaves blended to make the cakes which are ultimately rubbed into rough cut ribbons. It ships quite moist. Due to the majority of the blend being Virgina’s it burns hot. Frequent tamping is necessary in order to keep the heat under control. Is it very good? Yes. Are there other tobacco’s that are readily available year round that come close? Yes.

Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake 2oz
For Land Lubbers Too
After the bowl is finished you’ll know for many hours that you’ve smoked lots of Latakia by the shear amount of oils that coat your mouth. Delicious and not overbearing although it is heavier than most other blends, and it should be, because that’s what it was blended to be. The crumble cake breaks into a beautifully easy to pack shag that makes the tobacco burn very well. I could very well see pirates smoking this out of their clay pipes as they flew the Jolly Roger.

Solani - Aged Burley Flake - 656 50g
Crisp and Tasty
Although this blend only contains white burley it is packed with flavors of licorice and smooth floral tobacco goodness. The tin note smells like chocolate and molasses. The sticky flakes need some drying time before smoking. A real quality smoke. After the pipe is over there’s no harsh aftertaste in the mouth.

Cornell & Diehl - Bow-Legged Bear 2oz
Piece of Cake
I can really see just about anyone enjoying this tobacco since there’s just about every type of tobacco in this blend. Smooth and silky with Virginia and Perique notes the most prominent to me. Latakia and orientals add spice to the blend. The moisture level right out of the tin was perfect.

G. L. Pease - Lagonda 2oz
So Much Flavor
Lagonda is amazing. It’s got a huge flavor profile without being overbearing. The tin note smells beautifully smokey and rich. One of the best tin notes of any tobacco I’ve ever smelled. The pressing and fermentation process gives the whole tin a very dark color from where the oils from all the leaves have saturated each other. Delicious Latakia really shines through every other leaf in this blend. Right up there with Quiet Nights in my opinion as the best two Pease tobacco’s. If you love Latakia this is the one for you.

G. L. Pease - Fillmore 2oz
Another Pease Knockout
Sweet, musty almost slightly sour tin note when can is first opened. Dried for 30 minutes as the broken flakes came packed with a fair amount of moisture. The wonderful play of Virginia’s and Perique create a luxurious smoke that’s simply wonderful. It’s amazing how many blenders are able to blend Virginia’s and Perique and create whole bouquets of different flavors. Pease is definitely the reigning champ. Simply wonderful and easy on the palate. If you enjoy this I heavily recommend you try Druquer & Son’s Blairgowrie. Most blends I smoke contain Latakia but this has me perfectly content.

Tampers & Tools - 8deco Classic Tamper Carbon Fiber
A Tamper Built To Last A Lifetime For 12$
This tamper is gorgeous and well built. I’ve used many different tampers over the years from Czech Pipe Tools to Pipe Nails. This is far sexier and ergonomically superior. It’s about the thickness of a pencil at the widest part of the shaft which makes manipulating it very easy. The tamping head has airflow holes in it allowing you to evenly adjust the burn of your tobacco. The pick screws into the top which is fantastic if you lose things like I do. It’s length allows you to hold it in the hand like a writing instrument. Smoking a pipe should be a relaxing and luxurious endeavor so put the cheap pipe tools away and pick this fella up.

Peter Stokkebye - PS400 Luxury Navy Flake
Complex and Wonderful
For a Flake with just two ingredients this blend packs a lot of beautiful, soft flavor. No tongue bite. Grassy Virginia tin note. The straightforward flavor never gets cloying or tiresome.

Lane Limited - RLP-6
My Favorite Aromatic
Just about every pipe smoker I’ve ever met has tried this mixture. I’m not huge on aromatics but this one I really enjoy. Perfect for smoking out of a church warden while reading the paper. The room note brings to mind memories of my grandfather enjoying his pipe while telling me stories.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kentucky Nougat
A Pleasant Treat
This is an easy-going and smooth mix that you can smoke slowly for the great flavor. Not much in the way of nicotine. Easily an all day smoke with a very pleasant room note.

Cornell & Diehl - Latakia
A Home Blender’s Necessity
Latakia is found in almost every tobacco blend for good reason. It is simply delicious to smoke when mixed with Virginia’s. Latakia comes from the Middle East and is cured over a fire, giving it it’s Smokey deliciousness.

Cornell & Diehl - Granulated Perique
Delicious Smokey Spice
Perique really adds something special to homemade blend recipes. It’s wonderful smoky flavor can become too much and overpower all other ingredients in your blend if too much is used. There is a Goldilocks zone with Perique that just makes blends pop.

Mac Baren - Virginia No. 1
Super Clean
It doesn’t get much more mellow than a great Virginia Flake. This is something that can be smoked any time of day and leave your mouth feeling refreshed. Lemon and citrus notes ring as the smoke leaves the mouth. I also use this for blending with Latakia.

Drucquer & Sons - Levant Mixture 100g
One of The Best
Every GL Pease tobacco I’ve ever tried I’ve liked. His recreation of the Druquer and Sons mixtures are no exception. Waited around 4 months for this to come in stock and I now see the reason why. It’s wonderfully smoky and spicy without being overbearing. Full flavor profile yet refreshing at the same time. Latakia smokiness is the star up front with the orientals and Virginia’s adding the second layer of depth. I’ve never smoked a flat Pease blend. There’s always a symphonic orchestra attached to each puff of his wonderful creations, a testament to the man’s talent as a blender and expert of every type of leaf. The perfect pipe to start or end your day. I could smoke this all day but would run out so I save it for my evening pipes. I enjoy this more than Nightcap. Everything Pease makes is truly special. The second you crack the seal on this tin you can smell the quality tobacco’s that go into this blend. Not your average English. This is something much better. Smooth and creamy with no bite or harsh aftertaste. Truly a gentleman’s tobacco.

Seattle Pipe Club - Rainier Levant 2oz
Quite Good
Joe Lankford, the man behind many (or all) of Seattle Pipe Club’s blends knows his stuff. If you’ve never smoked Plum Pudding Special Reserve or Mississippi River buy some now. I’ve never smoked the original Druquer and Sons Levant Mixture so I cannot attest to how this compares but I can say that this is a delicious blend. It’s got a heavy lat profile but doesn’t leave you with a harsh taste in your mouth when you’re done. It’s got a smooth bit of spice to it and tastes fantastic. I’d agree with the can and call it a medium/full English blend. Latakia forward with orientals and reds rounding out. The tobacco arrived fresh with the perfect amount of moisture in the tin. The tin I ordered arrived vacuum sealed with a pull tab and metal top which I love because it can be stored almost indefinitely if not opened.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning
Would Probably Please Even The Pickiest Smoker
Virginia's and Perique. That's it. Could a mixture so simple taste so good? Yes, it absolutely can. Don't let the high perique content scare you away. This is amazing stuff.

Cornell & Diehl - White Burley
A Taste of Kentucky
A very useful blending tool.

Cornell & Diehl - Epiphany 2oz
Complex
The usual English suspects are all present but somehow the flavor has a somewhat fruity flavor to it. Very good. Very smooth. Said to be a blend Einstein smoked.

Cornell & Diehl - Bright Virginia Ribbon
Essential for Blenders
Have used this in many different blends I have made. Quite moist upon arrival. Quality Virginia with the hay like smell out of the bag and sugary cigarette taste when smoked straight up.

G. L. Pease - Chelsea Morning 2oz
Pleasant
Another wonderful Pease tobacco. This one’s smokiness bites at the back of my throat a little bit if I exhale through my nose. Definitely a little more Perique nite to it than some of the others but nothing overpowering. Pease has a wonderful way of using the same ingredients over and over again in different proportions to create completely unique blends. You can’t go wrong with anything he makes. Thick ribbon cut. Moisture level perfect out of tin.

Drucquer & Sons - Blairgowrie 100g
GL Pease - The Tobacco Wizard
GL Pease is the one behind resurrecting the Drucquer tobacco’s. He seems to have a better sense of tobacco blending than just about anyone else in the world. Using stories and what info he could find he brought back Drucquer & Sons blends long relegated to the pages of history. Blairgowrie is fantastic. Creamy and smooth with no bite. It is an absolute pleasure to smoke. His blends almost all are composed of the same Virgina, Oriental, Latakia and Perique but he is able to use different proportions of leaves to achieve many unique flavors. It’s always hard to judge a tobacco on the first pipe. This just seems to get creamier and more complex with each bowl. Shipped with the perfect amount of moisture. After my false light the second light got it going and kept it going. No harsh taste in mouth after pipe

Cornell & Diehl - Super Balkan
Bold and Beautiful
This mixture has broken flakes of Virginia mixed in with the other ribbon cut tobacco. The flavor is smooth and slightly spicy. Wonderful and not overly strong.

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
Perfection
This is without a doubt the most beautifully well balanced tobacco I have ever smoked in my life. Simply perfection in a can. No mouth bite. No harsh taste in the mouth after smoking. The room note is heavenly. The touch of perique makes it slightly smoky. Tin has a warm earth like note to it. This may be the tastiest blend ever created.

G. L. Pease - JackKnife Ready Rubbed 2oz
Like A Good Cigar
This blend from Pease is one of my favorites and smells just like Red Man chewing tobacco. Good tobacco smell with raisins. It tastes just like a good cigar. If you are switching from cigs or cigars to a pipe this is what you are looking for. I puff on it all day although it may be too strong for some. Buy the ready rubbed and save yourself some work.
