G. L. Pease - Telegraph Hill 2oz
VaPer Benchmark
This blend is great both fresh and with some age. TH has a strong back bone but is by no means overpowering. There is a bit of dark fruit, spice and maybe even a bit of a bread like flavor. This is certainly worth giving a spot in the rotation.

McConnell - Scottish Flake 50g
One of the Best
Wow! This tobacco is absolutely sublime. Get it while it is in stock because that does not seem to happen very often.

Orlik - Dark Strong Kentucky 50g
Not too shabby
Just finished a tin of this and I think it ended on a good note. Initially, I was not all that impressed. I tried the blend in various briars but always found the the topping to be too much. A brown sugar/molasses flavor takes the forefront of the blend with a mild spice and moderate body. The blend is overall pretty monochromatic and lackluster. And then I smoked it in a meerschaum and everything changed. The sweetness was still there but not overpowering. The dark fired tobacco had a much stronger presence by bringing a wonderful spice to the table. By switching to a meer the blend went from blah to pretty darn enjoyable.

Cornell & Diehl - Exhausted Rooster 2oz
Great Offering
Fall has finally arrived and it is time to reach for seasonally appropriate blends. Typically this is the time you reach for your favorite latakia mixture, unless you are like me and do not care for latakia. If that happens to be the same case for you may I suggest giving Exhausted Rooster a try. The dark fired gives it a fuller body but never overpowers the virginias or perique. There is some sort of top note on here that adds a wonderful sweetness that compliments the mixture well. I highly recommend giving this blend a try!

BriarWorks - Bacon Old Fashioned 2oz
Why???
This blend is just flat out bad. If you do dare to smoke this, I would highly suggest you smoke it in a cob. This blend will leave an orange skid mark in a briar.

McClelland - Ashton Revival: Pebblecut 50g
All Time Favorite
I have tried more blends than I can count and this is by far and away my favorite. You do not hear this blend being spoken of much and that is probably for the best, so that those of us who adore this blend can continue to hoard it. It is sweet, fruity, spicy, complex and the flavor builds as the blend progresses. This blend is a masterpiece!

Dunhill - Ye Olde Signe 50g
Terrible
The blends flavor profile was absolutely acrid. As a virginia lover, I was beyond excited for this blends re-release. They really missed the mark on this blend. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

G. L. Pease - Stonehenge Flake 2oz
Undecided
I smoked a generous sample of the original release and had a near nirvana experience. My go with the newer version has been no where near that. Being one who has not ventured to deep into the world of lakeland tobaccos, this blend type is not something I am use to. Some bowls checked all the boxes for me and others left me severely disappointed. I was not disappointed because the blend was inconsistent, rather it is the essence on the blend was a major turn off. This blend probably deserves a higher rating but I just can't do it.

Dunhill - Dark Flake 50g
Let it Breathe
I was very fortunate to smoke through a sample of the original version a couple years back. I will not attempt to compare the differences between the two. My initial impression was lackluster. However, after letting the tin sit for several days after opening the flavor really opened up. The blend indeed is true to the name of Dark Flake, as the virginias in this blend have an exceptional dark fruit note. The perique plays more of a support role and brings little spice or pepper. The blend is not complex and may be a bit boring for some. Despite this, the blend is still certainly worth trying.

A&C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Fond Memories
Escudo is well represented in my cellar and for good reason. This blend ages with the best of them. Although, I really enjoy this blend with just a year of age on it. At this time when you crack a tin it has an incredible tin note of muscadines. The smell takes me back to my childhood and stopping at fruit stands on the side of the road with my mom. The blend not only smells great but it also taste pretty darn good too. The blend supports a wonderful mix of fruit, spice and a touch of hay (particularly when it is young). Give this one a try if you have not done so already.

Dunhill - My Mixture 965 50g
Classic
I am exceptionally sentimental towards 965, as this was the first tinned pipe tobacco I ever purchased. The tobacco is rich and nutty, with a wonderful smokey backdrop from the latakia. The blend is consistent and thus dependable. A true classic.
