Dan Tobacco - Salty Dogs 50g
Marvelous Blend!
I cut into thin flakes then rubbed it out and dry. Packed into a a Dunhill bruyere size 3 and smoked. At first, there was nothing much so I was kinda disappointed. After getting into 2/3 of the pipe, the flavors emerge. Hay like, slightly spicy and deep. Beautiful beautiful taste. But sip in small puffs as I find the nic hit deceptive because it was delicious. I would buy more of this and cellar.
Savinelli - Brunello Flake 100g
Underrated beauty
I smoked this with an open mind and trying to guess the components. I would say virginias are the star , while burley and orientals take a minor role. A pleasing blend best enjoyed when smoked with small puffs and retrohale. Excellent blend in a hot day
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Ennerdale Flake
Beautiful, complex
This is not a blend for everyone. But if you are adventurous and open minded, the flavors are awesome. I would suggest rubbing it first then pack a half bowl. Smoking it right now.
Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Bold and beautiful
I tried to avoid this blend before for it’s nice hot. Tried it again today with an old hardcastle pipe. No relights, nutty and delicious.
Daughters & Ryan - Picayune 40g
Hidden Dragon
I really did not pay attention to this blend before. But it was once recommended to me as a strong blend with full flavors. I gave it a try and it did not disappoint. Good to store for those instances that you want something bold and cigar like flavors.
John Cotton's - Latakia 1.75oz
Latakia=Bliss
I opened a tin gifted by a friend in from Singapore. It smells of fragrant and delicious latakia. A latakia forward but balanced. This is a blend I would like to have for future cellaring. 5 stars for this blend. Addendum: I was given an old tin of this blend. The paper is already yellow-brown inside the tin. My more experienced friends swear that it's the taste of Syrian latakia that they detect.
Prince Albert - Prince Albert 1.5oz
Simple, comfortable and relaxing
I find this blend simple and uncomplicated. But there is something in this that is very comfortable and relaxing. It's that feeling of sitting in your favorite chair, wearing your slippers and sipping some nice brewed coffee while your wife and kid beside you. I can't explain, but believe each and everyone of us pipe smokers should at least once try this classic
Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Flakes = Love
If you love Virginia's and subtle flavors of chocolate and hay then you will love this
Smoker's Pride - Classic Blend 12oz
Mild and easy to like
If you want an easy going, mild aromatic with slight hints or caramel and vanilla this is for you. I gave it 3.5 stars as of the moment as I wait for the evaluation of my fellow pipe smokers. Edit: I smoked this again may 2, 2023. I was surprised how pleasant it is if smoked with small but frequent sips. I am now upgrading this to 4 stars because of the price point and taste.
Low Country - Peach
Delicate and wonderful
Sometimes we look down on blends because of the price. I played a small Gamble and bought this. I smoked it and I was surprised by the soft flavors and no tongue bite. So I ordered 1 pound peach and will keep this blend on a permanent rotation. I could have given this blend a 4.5 if it was more complex.
Low Country - Cherry
Not the best, but not bad!
We have here an inexpensive cherry blend that everybody seems to avoid. Thing is, I tried smoking it and some of my friends did the same. We all agreed with the consensus that this is not a bad tasting blend and also not a great tasting blend. It falls to so something like a fair or average rating. But let's see, I ordered a pound and will observe what the rest of the guys will say.
Drexel - Drexel VIII 1.5oz
Under Rated blend
Have you ever tried an unknown blend and be very pleasantly surprised? This flake is a very good example of that. It's mild to medium, subtle flavors and smokes well. Will buy more of this
Erinmore - Erinmore Mixture 100g
Very good solid , satisfying and balanced smoke!
Are you looking for a balanced blend with some Burley and not too strong but very enjoyable blend? If yes, I will suggest you buy a tin of this and enjoy on a quiet evening with friends over some tea and good company.
Dunhill - Aperitif 50g
One of the best.
The description says this is an English. I tasted it with a friend, but it tastes a little like an aromatic with it's sweetness and hints of Brandy or whisky. If I may, I will sggest that you smoke this after a hearty meal and you will see what a really good blend this is!
Mixture No. 79 - Mixture No. 79 1.5oz
Solid traditional aromatic
I respectfully disagree on the low rating for this tobacco. 1st time I tried it, it's quite way different than all aromatics out there. I know this is probably the most polizing blend if all time. But please hear me out. Smoke this blend for 3-4 days in a row and it will reveal some plums, florals, sweetness and unforgettable aroma that you will not find elsewhere (except from German aromatics like spring water, wild geese and the like) i tried smoking a tinned version of this from the late 60s to 1970s, and it's a superb blend. I am not smoking this daily, but this one deserves a special place in my rotation. So I am giving this a solid 4 stars.
Planta - Mellow English
A good companion on daily basis
I tried the full English version of this blend and gave it 4.5 stars (see my review). I am giving this blend a 4.5 star rating too. It's a mellow , slightly sweet and floral smoke. Not bland , not too strong but a well balanced all day smoker. To consider it's price, this blend is a winner! Just ordered more of this.
Low Country - Vanilla
Good, easy beginners aromatic.
Sweet, slightly nutty and easy to smoke. Not bad!
Sutliff - Match Victorian
A good match for elizabethan
I don't have much expectations from this blend at first. But when I reached midbowl in my oldenkot traditionale bulldog, things took a beautiful change. The Virginia's showed it's zest and grassiness, perique is just right and a very enjoyable smoke. To be honest with you guys, the only thing lacking in this match is more sweetness to make me rate it 5 stars. If you guys like vapers, buy some of this. I will buy more in the future... Update: I tried it with friends here in the Philippines. They liked it as a good all day smoke. I tried using a different pipe this time a peanut shaped registered number stanwell from 1950s-60s. Viola! The taste and character intensified. I am now upgrading my rating to 4.5 stars and I will recommend you use a small dry pipe. You will love it!
Solani - White and Black - 763 50g
Perfect balance of complexity, smoothness and power!
Do you want to know what an excellent to almost perfection in classic English tobacco tastes like? Get a small to medium sized pipe, an easy chair, good company and this blend. Smoke it and you will get an idea why I have a very high regard for this tobacco...
Planta - Full English
Beutiful and strong!
Out of the 16 ounces bag, smells of sweetness and hint of Latakia. I was not expecting too much from this blend but when smoked, it was beautiful. Beautiful in a sense that it's delicious and tasty. But this blend is not for the beginners, there is boldness and strength after 4 puffs. Best smoked after a meal and at evenings... Enjoy it, I will order more if this...
Low Country - Natural Virginia & Oriental
Love at 3rd time around.
Ok, at first I did not like this tobacco and just smoked it because I ran out of English. I ordered again because of need. Still didn't like it. But after a left over was aged for 5 months, it's a pleasant smoke. Try putting a little Latakia and very little perique in this blend. You will be very surprised... In a good way!
Cornell & Diehl - Granulated Perique
A secret ingredient
I will be very honest with you guys. I bought this on the premise of blending this with some cheaper of the shelf bulk blends. When it arrived, I was afraid to use it because I might screw up. But when I added it to an inexpensive bulk blend; Viola! I have something delicious but affordable for everyday consumption. I suggest that you buy an ounce or two and try experimenting. Go out o your comfort zone once in a while. It can be very rewarding.
Davidoff - Red Mixture 50g
An aromatic pleaser.
Imagine yourself going to a pipe meet with a younger generation of pipe smokers who loved aromatics. Now you are wondering what blend will you bring to impress your friends without burning a hole in your wallet. Worry no more! Bring a tin of this or any aromatic tin of davidoff! Problem solved. I personally rated this 4 stars. I will update my rating and give 4.5 stars to davidoff blue.
Cornell & Diehl - Star of the East
Very well made.
If you like a well balanced English with a Latakia base, this is for you!
Super Value - Black & Gold 1.5oz
Does not dissapoint
Ok guys. I don't have high expectation for this blend at 1st. So bought a pouch. I tried a bowl. It did not disappoint! Its mild and easy on the palate. I kinda like it for a tall or large bowl pipe. Also no tongue bite! Guys give this under dog blend a try. See for yourself that this isn't a bad blend. Will order a large bag soon.
Samuel Gawith - Squadron Leader 50g
Solid English blend
If you want a dependable, smoky and delicious English blend, then this is for you. I actually prefer this over dunhill 965 in terms of flavor. I would like to recommend this to smokers with a bit of experience.
Dan Tobacco - Blue Note 50g
Very pleasant aromatic
Smooth, no tongue bite very pleasant! What more can you ask from an aromatic?
Lane Limited - 1-Q
Gram for gram the best Aromatic ever made
After having smoked more than 60+ blends and counting, I say this is probably the greatest aromatic! If I will make a rubrics for grading this tobacco in terms of flavor, ease of lighting/burn, availability, room note and price. This tobacco hits the highest score. The only downside is strength which is purely a matter of personal taste. Pipe smokers both beginner and veterans in my country both love this, give this a try. You will love it!
Low Country - Hazelnut
Sweet hazelnut, easy smoke
Easy on the palate. Sweets and creamy hazelnuts. Smoke it slow, and pack medium. Over all a good tobacco for the beginner smoker!
Sutliff - Z50 Black Cordial
Complex taste, simply amazing!
Smells of fruits and zest upon opening. A bit wet so dry this a bit. Sweet tasting blend with a pleasant room note.
Esoterica - Tilbury 2oz
Out of this world
I only have dreams about this blend before. A friend gave me some and took me to an almost out worldly wonderful experience.
Rattray's - Red Rapparee 50g
Dream like blend.
Imagine yourself picking your favorite pipe and packing an untested blend from a friend. After a few puffs, the world seems lighter and everything is right in the world. Your cares melt away and you begin to smile, happy and enjoying a small smoke. Words are not enough to say what I experienced after the 1st time smoking this.
Grand Croupier - Jack Pot
Good aromatic
What will you do if tobacco apocalypse is just 2 weeks away? I suggest you buy a lot of this blend. This blend may taste different from time to time but I never got a bad batch. Bought this about 3-6 times already and will buy some more! Update: after buying more batches of this blend, I am updating my rating to 4 stars. Because of the relative consistency of this blend in terms of flavor
Grand Croupier - Boneyard
Stock this up and enjoy
Some people think this is a cheap useless blend. I tried jarring some quantities of this for 6 months and behold! An English blend that is inexpensive, good tasting and smells good. I suggest you try cellaring 2 ounces o this and smoke in 6 months to 1 year time. You won't be dissapointed.
Peter Stokkebye - PS403 Luxury Bullseye Flake
One of the best tasted
Hands down, one of the best blends I ever tasted. If there is a 6 star rating, I will give this an outstanding 6!
G. L. Pease - Gaslight 2oz
Excellence in a tin.
Smoke this after a meal. Nic hit is high but you will be rewarded with the most intense and complex blend ever tasted.
Gold Block - Gold Block 1.75oz
Clear winner
Ok, I am bit skeptical at 1st to smoke this. I tried in a Singapore pipe convention during 2017. This blend specially when its aged is a clear winner.
Comoy's - Cask No.2
Very good aromatic
A friend bought 1 kilogram o this. So I smoke a bowl and love its delicate and pleasing aroma. Try this, you won't be dissapointed
Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Delicious and delightful.
Smooth, grassy and very enjoyable. Only downside is the price.
Half and Half - Half and Half 1.5oz
Love at first smoke
Here's a little secret: I 1st started pipe smoking way back 2003 and this was the 1st blend I tried out of a cheap China made rosewood pipe. It was like smoking something beautiful and beyond words for me. (Because I was a cigarette smoker before) . I want this on my regular blend rotation.
Dunhill - Royal Yacht 50g
Strong Satisfying smoke
One of the strongest blends I smoked. But very good specially in a small bowl. If you want a small quantity of these with a limited time at your hands, this is it. Delivers a strong very good smoke.
Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Good starter for the day.
I like this blend in the mornings and evenings. I gave this 4 stars in merit of its taste. But factoring the costs, I would rather stick to other blends like P.S. luxury English or sutliff 965 match. But of course, smoke what makes you happy. Sweet smokes!
Borkum Riff - Cherry Cavendish 1.5oz
Average blend
Average aromatic in my opinion. I would prefer to stick with the black Cavendish or original borkum riff.
Borkum Riff - Original 1.5oz
1 of the best borkum riff
One of the best borkum riff. But you need to smoke this slowly and with good pacing or else tongue bite.
McClelland - Personal Reserve: Blackwoods Flake 50g
Underrated blend
This blend is just awesome when smoked in a small, old briar. Smoked this in a volcano block meer and had no words for this when it reaches near the bottom of the bowl. If you want excellence in a tin, buy this and get the oldest, smallest briar you have then light em up!
Davidoff - Blue Mixture 50g
Very pleasant aromatic
If you want a very good aromatic to share and enjoy over cups of coffee and laughter, this is it.
Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake 50g
Best of the best
Age this tin. Smoke in a good pipe. Slowly, slowly with pacing. Now you are in a different place, dimension and conciousnes... I am not kidding, I was with a friend when all of this happened with this blend.
Dunhill - My Mixture 965
One of the best out there
Do you want an English blend that is very consistent , burns evenly and tastes great? Then you are here! I consider this one of the best English blend. Excellent blend to introduce an aromatic smoker to English. Only disadvantage is price point.
Sutliff - Revelation Match
Best every day blend of all time
Want to smoke something slightly fruity, fragrant and a little complex for a reasonable cost? Then this is it. My favorite every day blend. Smoke this and you will find out why Albert Einstein. Seems to love an earlier version on this. Edit: I upgraded my score to 4.5. This will taste amazing if you age it like 6 months to a year. Then you will understand why I upgraded it from 3.5 to 4.5
Sutliff - B25 Dark Chocolate
Good for beginners
If there is a good , cost effective way to entice new pipe smokers with a blend. This is it. Smokes slightly sweet and smells nice.
Sutliff - #600 Mixture 79
Good blend if you try
This is probably the most polarizing blend of all time. I tried it out of need because we don't have access to other tobaccos. there is liquorice, plums and some flowery smell to this. I like this from time to time.
Sutliff - Match 20
Best cost for taste
Are you looking for the best "bang for the buck" blend? You came to the right blend. My opinion here is also shared by fellow pipe smokers here in my country. We have tried various blends of englishes. But we all came down to one common consensus: this blend is the most cost effective but tasty English blend there is. Give this blend a try, its affordable yet good.
Grand Croupier - Double Down
Better with time
OK guys, I know a lot of you may look down on this blend. Thing is I don't run out of this blend. Why you may ask? Its good tasting when given at least 3 months of jarring and its very affordable. My 2 cent advice is you should smoke this slowly and as I have said , give it some jarring time. Give this tobacco a try. its not the best tasting tobacco, but it sure does make a good smoke and cellar.
