Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Morning Blend
Good, light honey and vanilla, VaBur
I only started smoking a pipe a few months ago (after nearly 2 decades of various other tobacco and nicotine intake; mostly cigarettes) so I do not have the best palette or much experience to draw on. However, I can say that this seems to possibly be my favorite aromatic out of the very few that I've tried (Autumn Evening, 1/2 & 1/2, Crème Brule, and possibly a couple others that I can't think of at the moment). I've stuck mostly to non-aromatics and still don't know what types of blends are my favorites. Anyways, this particular aro stands out from the rest. Firstly, because it manages to be a "full-on" aromatic but without being overpowering. It is not so lightly aromatic that you might question whether there is a flavoring (like Plum Pudding, or Carter Hall) but is also not overpowered by the flavor. Some folks say 1/2 and 1/2 accomplishes this level of flavoring, and although I like it very much, it is a very strongly flavored tobacco for me. Autumn Evening and Creme Brule are even more strongly flavored. This tobacco stands out to me in that I absolutely taste the flavor; which comes through as sweet, vanilla, and honey. I don't taste the bourbon at all, but maybe smell it ever so slightly. The topping notes blend in with the taste of the Virginia, which is the dominating tobacco here. There are some notes from the burley, but they are harder to pick out; the Burley does obviously balance out the way that the blend smokes however, as I can rarely smoke a predominantly VA without getting tongue bite. Overall I like it.
