Excellent Strong Tobacco
Ordinarily I don’t really go for things which have a distinct topping/flavoring, but this one was strong enough and apparently (from other reviews) the toppings actually compliment the tobacco instead of overwhelming it. And I must say, they were right. The tobacco itself is very powerful in terms of the flavors, aromas, and nicotine, and the toppings enhance and compliment it beautifully. It’s an exceptionally good blend. Just keep the nicotine levels in mind, it’s no joke and should only be consumed if you have a decent tolerance or a small bowl. If you’re up for a delicious and unique powerbomb, give it a try. It’ll ghost your pipes for a few bowls afterwards though, especially if your meerschaum is clean when you smoke it. I don’t mind, I love the stuff, but just keep it in mind.

Mac Baren - HH Latakia Flake 16oz
Complex, Balanced, and Delicious
After trying C&D’s Bow-Legged Bear, I was looking for other English/Balkan/Latakia blends which are hot-pressed, because The Bear is simply fantastic with a unique and melded flavor that is different from what the individual components provide, and I think it’s largely due to the hot pressed technique. I really love HH Bold Kentucky, typically having a flake of it with coffee each morning to get me going. So I decided to take a chance on this HH Latakia Flake. I’m very happy I did, it’s superb. For the first 3rd of the bowl it has quite a tangy raspberry/lemon flavor in addition to a decent amount of distinct Latakia flavor, and in the last two thirds it has a very very similar taste and aroma to The Bear, just a bit less heavy and intense and a bit more dry and spicy, probably from the orientals. This is a truly superb tobacco and can be enjoyed any time of day without fear of too much or too little flavor or nicotine. Absolutely a 10 out of 10, it’s brilliant.

Cornell & Diehl - Bow-Legged Bear 2oz
Smooth, Tasty, Strong
I tried a 2oz tin of this stuff with a little trepidation, not sure what I was getting myself into, but I’m very glad I did. This is a blend that, because of the wide variety of tobaccos along with the hot-pressed and cake form, makes it fairly difficult to discern the different tobaccos during basically anything but the charring light. Once it gets burning, it has a flavor all its own and I happen to think it’s really delicious. Nicotine content is what I’d call medium-strong, just slightly more than Night Train but not near as much as HH Bold Kentucky. The flavors and nicotine level go exceptionally well with morning coffee, and the room note is very reminiscent of something like dark chocolate with a hint of that Latakia pine camp fire smell. Really great blend, I’m ordering a lot more to keep around. Probably in my top 2 or 3 blends for a morning smoke with a cup of coffee.

Great Strong Flake Tobacco
This stuff is very enjoyable for people who enjoy strong, rich, and not particularly sweet tobacco. It’s a robust, earthy, spicy, tobacco and if you’re into that, you’ll enjoy this quite a lot. Mine arrived fairly moist and after some experimentation I believe this is best smoked fairly dry, just at the point where it doesn’t feel moist to the touch but is still fairly pliable and not brittle. If you’ve got either a lot of time to smoke slowly or have recently eaten a meal and are well-hydrated, it’s very good in a large bowl. But if you’re short on time and just need a tasty way to get a quick tobacco and nicotine fix, this stuff is really great in those smaller portions. Overall I’m very happy with this stuff, but it’s not for the faint hearted or those who don’t have much of a nicotine tolerance/need.

Simply Great
The truth is that this is a simply great tobacco. If a person likes dark-fired Kentucky tobacco, likes lots of nicotine for whatever reason, and hates tongue bite, this is your stuff right here. Fantastic flavor and aroma, it burns well without a ton of drying time, and although it certainly is bold, it’s not crude or rough or harsh at all. Just a straight-up excellent tobacco. Perfect with some coffee in the morning, kickstarts the day perfectly.
