Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Whisky Twist
2 years in jar.
It dried out nicely as it was literaly sopping wet when it arrived. When dried and smoked fresh it was tasty, smokey and the most bitey tobacco I've smoked to this day. After 2 years in a jar it has mellowed dramaticly. Bite is waaaaayy more forgiving. Smokable to minimal dottle. Strong flavours at the end of the bowl dark fired flavour forward at the end for sure. Nice, but I couldn't smoke a lot of this, once or twice a week.

Great smell, way richer than the other Virginia's I smoke like blockade runner and orlik. Similar flavour to sutliff Virginia slices, but more concentrated flavour! The cut is more ribbon and rubs out different than the typical c&d type cakes, but I gotta say the cake looked TINY in the tin! About the size of 2 flakes of Bengal slices. :p

Cornell & Diehl - Derringer
Weak, bland, dry.
Better than Winchester, barely. Could possibly be alright after a year or two in a jar. I'm never buying bulk again. This and Winchester have traumatized me. I'm sceptical of ever ordering bulk again. For real. I'd rather pay double and get quality.

Cornell & Diehl - Winchester
Trash tobacco taste
Ordered 4 ounces bulk. Arrived so dry, bag note of cardboard and pencil shavings. I let it rest in a jar for a week and the smell improved,in the slightest perceptible amount. The taste did not. Utter bleh. In the bin with you Satan. It would have been more satisfying to watch a 10$ bill burn.

Dang, this is the perfect amount of perique for me! Ive been trying every high perique percentage va-per, and it got a bit mutch. But this is wonderfully balanced. Orientals are a mystery. This taste like fuller flavoured Elizabethan type blend. I wasnt smacked in the face by anything that i could identify as orientals though.

One of the best "catchup" flakes ive smoked yet! Loved it!

Seattle Pipe Club - Galloping Gertie 2oz
Noob review
...it's like kajun kake or bijou morning flake but way less in your face. Strong tin note of va-per foot/cheese darkness like the above mentioned, but SO mutch softer around the edges when you smoke it. Smoother, sweeter, definitly more complex and I like it a lot! The cab gives it a smoothness and softens the sour from the perique. As far as Turkish orientals, I don't know. I don't know what to associate to the profile that represents Turkish orientals. Never had them before and don't get anything dramaticly different in the flavour to identify it from another va-per that doesn't have it included. Good sweet va-per! Tin came with a little over a years age.

Sutliff - Molto Dolce 1.5oz
Love it or hate it blend
Why. No. Never again. Polarizing aromatic. Not my bag. So mutch sugar, so mutch moisture, just sweet as heck without any distinct flavour.

Sutliff - RL-Green River Black
One star, soooo dry and bitter
Yeah, no. Like smoking Scottish bitter marmalade, without any sweetness or flavour. Just the oddest sensation as it coats your mouth with shock. I tried it mixed first, just a pinch in some Elizabethan, rank. Tried it straight and traumatized myself. I broke the jar I put it in just in case it ghosted it. It went in the bin. That was ...interesting? Sorry, not sory

Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
3 stars. It's not bad.
It's not blowing my socks off though, and it should for the premium price. Should be better after a few years but I can buy Virginia's that taste better than this fresh.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 2012 Anniversary Blend 1.75oz
Good Virginia.
Reading it's provided description of a pear flavoring I stayed away from this for a while. Don't like pears. But it is not a strong flavoring at all. Far from aromatic. Tastes like a red Virginia, sweet but not the citrus type of Virginia. It's taken nearly the wholen tin to apreciate the very subtle topping. It's not a forward flavoring but an afterwards, lingering on your pallet. You taste it after and try and place your finger on it. It's very nice, mine came a bit dry the flakes were super fragile and getting one out whole was hard and it burnt no issue. This will likely age wonderfully, in a jar.

Missouri Meerschaum - 150th Anniversary 1.75oz
Smooth and flavorful!
Damn bud. This stuffs prety damn good. It gets in my moustache and my beard and taunts me. I... need to ration this, but I cannot. Smooth, can tell there is burley in it, but it is a typical cav virgina aro in its sweetness. Its sweet, but not overbaringly sweet. The tobacco does take over the flavor in the bottom half. The topping is strong when lighting but tames once lit well and tamped. This smells something divine. I got A LOT of comments. This has something in the aroma that the people around me just loved. No bite, but I'm less susceptible.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Whisky Twist
Phenomenal tin note
I was lucky and got some very fresh rope. Not going to lie, you could squeeze the whisky out! Knowing it needs time to age, I smoked 3 coins to have a taste. The tobacco is amazing, full bodied with a hint of DF or ...cigar...something. And then there's the whiskey flavoring, gorgeous. The best whisky anything I have smoked. But I'm sure that whiskey profile will fade with time.

G. L. Pease - Telegraph Hill 2oz
Mild
Mild va-per. Bit more flavour than Elizabethan? Not mutch else to say. It wasn't bad, I just like a lot of others more.

G. L. Pease - Haddo's Delight 8oz
Different.
Ahh it's got a few things going on. It's got the va-per thing going but the burley hits the pallet and the cav sweetnes permeates all. It's cut is the reason It's kind of chaotic. Its a cowboy chop of a cut. Biiig pieces of perique are fun to pull out and load a bowl with if your a perique freak. I warmed to it realy after the second jar finished. And I really do like it now. It's in my daily baccy rotation now.

Cornell & Diehl - Kajun Kake 8oz
Really good fresh!
**edit, after a lb I find it's flavour to be mostly Cavendish sweet forward, with everything else in the background. Not a bad thing, on my second lb and this batch is different and has more cavendish. Slightly inconsistent**Wow! Can't wait to see how this ages!! It's fantastic fresh, my tins only 4 months old and I love it! Feels a little slick in my fingers when I rub it out. It's perfectly sweet, perfectly peppery, perfectly sour stinky feet smell thing. Love it.

Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Fat finger wouldn't let me give it 3 stars
Super smooth and basic in a good way. It didn't realy blow my socks off, but I bought moređŸ˜†. It's clean, bright and at half bowl gets peppery.

Cornell & Diehl - Blockade Runner 8oz
Damn the torpedos
I've only tried 6 different boozy Virginia's and this is my fave. Ordered the big one and I'm going through it waaay to fast. It's easy to smoke a lot. It does get hot, and it bites a little when it's hot. Not the best for when I'm smoking quicker than I should.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 8oz
Must have.
Yeah right, like I'm ever going to run out of this now that I've found it. It's a must in my daily baccer rotation. It can get intense. I don't smoke it in the morning because I can't eat in the mornings. Best enjoyed with something more than coffee in your stomach.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 100g
Love it
I've given up hope on getting Solani Virginia flake from this website, and this is the next best thing to me. Update* I now have to ration this to myself because I like it so mutch. Mild grassy sweetness. Smooth, and when rubbed out completely and dried it tastes sweeter than fold n stuff.

G. L. Pease - Haddo's Delight 8oz
4 month old 8oz tin.
Big 8oz tin dated 4 months ago so it's quite fresh. Smoked in a number of pipe shapes. All very VERY bland tasting. Slightly sweet. I really hope it gets better in time. Transferred 8oz tin into 4 mason jars to put away for a long time. Won't re-order unless it gets dramaticly better. Tastes like a fresh cigarette. Meh.

Solani - Blue Label- 369 50g
*updated* sweet.
*updated at end*Great taste! Not overbearing! Great tobacco quality. I got red fruit in the same vein as Davidoff red or stokkebye 1982 with are verry similar to each other but the Solani has a profile very distinct from the other two for comparison. Mild ghost. No bite at all. Burns fantastic, soft white ash. Excellent as a topping or condiment. *update* too sweet. Prefer the davidoff red or stokkebye '82 because there is more "tobacco flavour" or less aro. I have tried many aros that have this style of distinct body/feel and flavour and its not for me. It burned amazing though lol.

G. L. Pease - Stonehenge Flake 2oz
Lovely (broken)flake
Hard dense broken flake(there was no hope of extracting a full flake from my first tin as it was a smishsmorshion inside. Not an overwhelming tin note. Hard to rub out dense sticks. A bit tricky to load for a beginner. I don't know what Lakeland is, but it sure as hell doesn't taste like "old lady purse" or flowers or perfume to me. My moustache says its more burley than anything. A tiny perceptable peppery note in the nose maybe from some small amount of perique but doesnt have the sweet, kinda sour taste I associate with lots of perique and love. It's a long smoke as it burns quite slowly and because of that it burns quite cool I think. I have a feeling this blend ages with the best and will only get better with time. I'm purchasing a big tin of this to break down and jar for the future.

Newminster - No.23 Blackberry Brandy
Perfect condiment.
I adore this Cavendish. It's the perfect cav for sweetening a Virginia. I love to use just a bit in a bowl to punch up a va-per or ad to a burley. The blackberry and brandy is verry present up front but it's not an overwhelming aromatic style flavoring! It's just there and it tastes natural like it's supposed to be there. I often leave it out for 24hrs to dry and smoke it straight and its wonderfull. Its a perfect condiment cavendish and everybody should have 2-4 oz in a jar at home!

G. L. Pease - Fillmore 8oz
Latakia hides in this.
It's not that I don't like this tobacco, I don't like latakia. This tobacco checked all the boxes for something I would realy like, and I do like it... but I'd like it more if they would admit that it has latakia in it. You can totaly taste it. It's there. Hits the perique perfectly in my taste. Virginia's are high quality and earthy and the flavour from it being pressed makes it damn nice. I just don't like latakia, and it's not listed as a component. I would not have bought 8oz of something with a component that i dont realy like. Sneaky. Bayou morning flake is better :p

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning 2oz
A kick in the timbits!
New to smoking, I first opened the tin and immediately put my nose in it and took a deep inhale... hotdamn that slapped me good! Warning! Don't do that. So THATS what perique does lmfao. I didn't know if its the perique or what, but this isn't what I would call mild by any definition. Careful exhaling through the nose, takes some getting used to. Sweet, earthy, sour, peppery. Comparing this to Elizabethan is like comparing orange koolade and cheap vodka to fresh pressed o.j. and Patronè. This is the Patronè. Having been a cigarette smoker and I chew Siberia, I laughed in the face of ALL claims of nicotine, but this ain't no joke, I never got the gut feeling and it wobbly head from a bowl of tobbaco before. This will do it very easily if you inhale. Cought me off guard 100%. Can't believe how good it tasted when I opened the tin. I smoked one bowl and thought this was special so I jarred it and threw it in the closet to be forgotten. Ordering 8 oz after I smoked one bowl. It's that good fresh, can't wait for a year!

Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Giver!
Great quality, great price! Good firm flakes, perfect moisture, rub out and smoke right out of the bag. A little more on the bran/cereal side and mutch less hay and raisin taste. I'm going to invest a bit into this and jar up some for long term storage.

Cornell & Diehl - Bourbon Bleu 2oz
Mmmmm good
Mild virginia flavour with a splash of boozey goodness. Second c&d thing ive tried and i enjoy it a lot and it's on the re-order list. I'll keep this on hand always, and jar 2 to forget about for a year or two.

Stands & Pouches - Economy Folding Pipe Stand
Perfect for work
Cheap as dirt. Plastic. Perfect for the work bench or table. If it breaks, its a dollar. Buy 5.

Mac Baren - Vanilla Flake 1.75oz
A beauty eh
I wish the flakes where tighter and a little less crumbly, it's basicly broken flake sticks. I love how it's less vanilla intense than v.c.loose cut or sutliff vanilla custard. It's more Virginia forward and I love it because I'm constantly mixing the v.c. and v.custard with virginias to tame it down. If thats your thing too, THIS is your thing guy. Giver. Full send.

Peterson - Flake 50g
Perfect with timbits and a double double
Quality Virginia flake. It wasn't a loose crumbly flake, firm and PERFECTLY moist. Smoked out of tin in a savinelli roma poker and it was a bit of a pain to get lit using stuff and fold but once it took, it burns amazing. It has a bit of the sour to a Virginia that I love, not just bran or bread like. Bit of peppery burn in the nose. It did bite just a little, far better than a lot. Friggin beauty bud. Not the Gretzkey of virginia flakes, but a solid Crosby.

Cult - Blood Red Moon 50g
What the... no.
This is the most cherry flavored thing I have ever encountered in my life. When you smoke, it feels like your chugging cherry syrup. Nothing on the planet is this cherry flavoured. Tobacco should not taste like this. I don't get it. I couldn't give it away free on my jobsite. Everyone smelled it, laughed and said no. Hipster smoke.

Newminster - No.400 Superior Navy Flake
Not bad at all!
Instead of the raisiny hay like smell of the Virginia's I have smoked thus far, this smells A LOT like ...bran flakes! It tastes, not of sweet earthy notes but of toasty bran. It's not complicated, it's very simple and it smokes well. It's perfect for adding a pinch of your favorite Cavendish. Moisture content is perfect but flakes don't survive shipping intact.

Sutliff - D58 Dulce De Leche
Fair
Fair smoke. Better cut quality than most sutliff bulk. The flavour definitly has some coconut like thing in it followed by caramel and some nuttiness. Burns hot, no joke. Requires dry time to burn slowly and keep lit. Fresh it tends to go out a bit but it is heavily flavoured. And it bites a little bit for sure. Not mutch nicotine, felt prety weak in that dept. Good stuff. I'll keep some on hand, but I probably won't smoke it daily.

Sutliff - 19 Coconut Almond
Not bad eh
Good with timbits and a doubledouble. It has the toasty mouth feel of dfk from the coconut/almond flavoring witch I enjoyed. Low nic, if any. If you get aggressive on the draw you will get a little bit of bite but as far as bitey aromatic toppings go it's not bad for that. The coconut and almond flavour is stronger, it's not a mild aromatic by any means. Beauty room note and it does taste good, but it's hard for me to smoke more than one bowl a day of this. I mixed a pinch in with a Virginia flake and it was friggin great.

Sutliff - Z92 Vanilla Custard
THE vanilla.
This is the richest, most creamy vanilla you will ever smoke. Yup, it's soaking wet, yup it can bite a bit. Put it in a larger jar to rest for a few months and the moisture will improve... slightly lol but will smoke mutch better. The chunky ribbon cut is a bit to mutch. I feel this particular product would improve its smoking characteristic with a better quality cut... it's not perfect mechanicly but god damn the flavour is sublime and it will make non smokers question you as to what your smoking because it smells DIVINE.

Newminster - No.403 Superior Round Slices
It does get bitey
Interesting flavour, the grassy raisin Virginia staple with a dash of dfk. This was my first taste of anything dfk. Really enjoyed the added dimension the dark fired gives! If your unsure about dfk, this is a good blend to try. Like a Smokey va-per/va-bur. But Christ on a cracker this smokes hot in every pipe I own and if you get bite a lot, this is NOT for you cuz this will bite like a Doberman if you don't smoke it as slowly as humanly possible. No stublins, no nosewarmes, no short pipes or you will get bit 4 puffs in. Long pipes with a filter makes this blend shine.

Solani - Virginia Flake - 633 100g
Hype is real, damn nice flake.
Please please I hope it gets re-stocked here. Picked up the last tin at my local b&m, it was a few years old. The classic Virginia smell, raisins and dank hay but it's the best Virginia punch in the nose I've ever had. The flake itself is one long unbroken ribbon of flake, folded over itself like taffy and looked fantastic. I chose to rub out my first taste and smoked it in a brigham billiard reserved for virginias. It lit beautifully with no drying time. Burned slow and even. The taste after the char light was so sweet and earthy, fruity hay and molasses. Thick mouth feel when you get it going. I would call it a rich and flavourfull Virginia. If there's perique in this then I'm a tim-bit. You can't taste or feel any perique sadly. 5 stars. If you like Virginia, take off eh. Order something else, it's hard enough to get it for us hosers.

Missouri Meerschaum - The Elf Cobbit
Works great
Excellent mud job at the bottom, far better than the heritage line. Buuuuut, mine came straight. Realy wanted a bent, had my heart set on it. Dissapointed but it's still great!

Sutliff - Z89 Creamy Butterscotch
Swing-and-a-miss
This is an aro? No flavour of ...anything let alone butterscotch. It was like 3p with a splash of sweet? Coworkers said it didn't smell great either. They can do vanilla better than anybody, but not butterscotch. Creamy, ha.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 1982 Centennial Blend 1.4oz
Crowd pleaser!
Superbly balanced aromatic. Not overly sweet tasting, but it is sweet! And the aroma is a 100% crowd pleaser. I was smoking this on a non-smoking jobsite, turned around and the super-intendadant had snuck up in me to catch me red handed. I though I was in deep trouble and he LOVED THE SMELL. Wants me to bring a pipefull everyday and smoke It in the morning while he's conducting the monkeys. Update: this is fighting with Davidoff red mixture for the #1 aromatic in my rotation of baccy. The sTUfF drEAmS ARe MAdE of.

Davidoff - Red Mixture 50g
Lovely aro
Not as strong flavoured as the tin note. But still a rich aro. I get a lot of good comments when I smoke on jobsite. Almost has a hint of berry similar to stokk. 1982. Worth every penny.

Sutliff - 150 Mark Twain
Civilised
Wonderful aroma, yes it's an aromatic but it's not a strong sugary flavour like macB vanilla custard or roll cake. Great va-bur with a topping

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Instantly enjoyable
I just opened my first tin of this and stuffed a full flake into my Brigham voyager while I was moving into a jar. It's awsome right out of the 1 year old tin. Very flavorful and light.

Bengal Slices - Bengal Slices 1.75oz
Anise? Licorice?
Something about it was a bit rough and it ghosted my pipe with the topping. It's not bad but I don't like the topping.

CAO - Eileen's Dream 50g
Shockingly good
NOBODY gets a perfect score from me on anything, BUT this is prety close. It's a simply amazing aromatic. Light in public, watch noses lift, watch necks break looking for the source of the smell. Watch them smile at you. And it tastes as good as it smells.

Peterson - My Mixture 965 50g
Rich English.
This is the blend I smell I'm my mind when I think of a strong English. I can't not have a jar of it at all times. A beloved staple standard in my collection. Rich full bodied smoke with all the latakia you need.
