Punch - Knuckle Buster Toro
Good Everyday Cigar
Great appearance, construction and draw. First third was very lite, not much flavor. This impression made me think I would not like the cigar (kinda a why even bother feeling). But the 2nd 2/3's of the cigar redeemed the experience. Will purchase more.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
First, I do not smoke aromatics. I love how they smell, but absolutely hate them. I normally smoke Virginia's, Var/ Par and English. Old Dark Fired flake, Bayou Nights, Orlik (in the summer), HH Lat flake, Night Cap....that's my thing. I had q-1 for years in a jar because I like how it smells. I smoke a bowl about once a year and it reminds me of how much I hate smoking aromatics. But a couple of weeks ago I tried my annual dose of q-1 (hated smoking it) and people kept stopping by saying how good it smelled. So I thought I would pick up this one to see if I could tolerate it every now and again at work. I love this blend. I smell and taste the tobacco (I can't with other aromatics I have tried). Obviously the topping is present (it is an aromatic, after all) but it is not overly done I get the tobacco, maple and whiskey. I don't get fruitiness. There is something here I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe something of the whisky but it reminds me of a spice. At first I thought this would be my pick for work (not offensive to others), but now I'm leaning towards this as an every day smoke. It does not bite, it smokes fairly cool (but quick). Will stick up on this one.
Peterson - 3 P's Peterson's Perfect Plug 50g
Dense plug. I have tried this several ways, but my favorite is to rub into a shag and let dry overnight. It burns faster but not hot. No re-lights and I don't think a false light is even needed (I do it....just 'cause that's what I do). Very smokey and flavor is excellent. Sweet Virginia with a hint of dried fruit. Short finish which leaves a taste similar to a mild cigar.
Orlik - Golden Sliced 50g
I have tried many tobaccos. I've found often the "legendary" blends are not so....well....legendary. Not that they are bad, but in today's tobacco landscape they are easily overshadowed Orlic Golden Sliced is not like this. The tin note is summertime- grass and hay with a touch of citrus. Will it knock your socks off? Probably not. It is "comfort food". A nice, medium Virginia with a very small tough of perique coming through. I do not smoke this daily. I suspect it would get borning after awhile. But I can always come back to this tobacco and she always welcomes me home.
Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired Ready Rubbed
Dark Fired Kentucky
I have ordered this several times - one of my favorites. The rubbed out flake is excellent. I have found this needs a little drying time. Smoked rubbed out to almost a shag. This one benefits from smoking it slow, not to avoide a bite (there is no bite) but to let the flavors come through. A good all day smoke.
Arango - Balkan Supreme
I purchased 4 Oz about 5 months ago. I liked the tobacco OK but it was a bit harsh, so I jarred it and forgot it. I really didn't intend on picking this one back up. Last week I tried it again and absolutely loved it. Ordered 8 Oz. and compaired against what I had jarred. This one benefits from packing it very tight and letting it sit at least a few months. It mellows out quite a bit into a fantastic smoke. This is similar to Nightcap with a few differences. There is no perique so the pepper that is in Nightcap is not present. This one also has Cavendish, but really in the background. I like Nightcap but I think I enjoy this one more. It is very mellow. I do still get a bit of a rough edge on this but think it will smooth out with time.
