G. L. Pease - Bankside 2oz
You betcha!
I quite like this blend. I'm not surprised as I've never had a Pease offering that wasn't exceptional. A lot of VaPers out there leave me wanting more. They don't always check all the boxes for me. Since this blend has basically everything in it- check, check, check. I love the boldness of the perique playing with the Va's. The faint incense of the Lat and the light smokiness of the DFK swirling around in the background send this one over the top for me. Solid 4 stars. I have a feeling I may need to edit this in a few months time to add another star.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Dark Bird's Eye Vintage Cut
More like Brown BULLSEYE!
As you can see from my other reviews, I favor English and Balkan blends. This one may convert me. Great full flavor, good amount of vitamin N and it's easy to smoke. DBE is quickly becoming my favorite blend without Lady Lat. I like the vintage cut. Don't get me wrong, I fancy a good shag now and again, but the thin ribbon works really well with this blend IMO. Good stuff. Good stuff, indeed.
Arango - Balkan Supreme
Balkan Beauty
I smoked a couple bowls of this when I got it, and wouldn't you know it, it bit me like a dang deerfly! Highly unusual for a Balkan or English blend. My ph must have been whacky or something. Tasted great, but painful. I jarred it up for 6 mo or so, and recently revisited it. The wait was worth it! Great balance between the lat and orientals! Spicy, woody, sweet & sour, all that good stuff. A really enjoyable medium Balkan that checks a lot of my boxes. Solid 4 stars.
G. L. Pease - Maltese Falcon 2oz
Holy smokes!
Does this stuff remind anybody else of the incense used at church? Much like church, this blend is not an everyday affair for me, but I never regret going there. Also, like church, I like it best when I am sitting.
Cornell & Diehl - Super Balkan
My go to Blend.
Super Balkan is my go to, everyday blend. When I'm not sure what to pick, I pick this. I've smoked more of this than any other blend. The taste? You know that smell when you're walking in a forest a day or so after a rain, and the temp is just right? That's what this reminds me of. Always woodsy, spicy & earthy. Occasionally lightly sweet on the tip of the tounge. Tingles the nose. Bold. Complex. There's a lot going on in there, but I can be completely satisfied smoking this whilst doing stuff. And the moustache note? Second only to Quiet Nights. They should make a beard oil that smells like this stuff. I'd drink it.
F & K - Lancer Ready Rubbed
Can I eat this stuff?
The first time I ordered this, I had to pick it up from the PO on my way to work. Brought the box in with me because it was below zero and didn't want to leave it in the car. I opened up the box when I got there and had to take a sniff. Sweet baby Jebus. I felt like Richard Pryor in the eighties- I couldn't stop sniffing. I wanted to eat it. Not a super productive day for me. Rushed home after work and lit one up. How can something so seemingly simple be so damn good? There is a flavor there that I can't describe, but I crave. It's trusty stuff. Always good. Not overly complex, but sometimes that is just what is needed.
Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
First impressions 2022.
Just got my 2022 tins today. Smoking my first bowl out of a home made morta apple. Uff dah this is good. Tin note is like a chocolate raisin dessert. Yum. The actual smoke has been very complex. J.R. stated that it had been topped with Molasses and sugar, and I definitely got that the first 1/3 of the bowl along with nice refined burley flavor. Orientals really started to come through after the first third or so. Exotic, indeed. Really remarkable first impression! I'm glad I picked up a few of these. I'm guessing it will only get better from here. Update 1/23- every time I smoke this, I ask myself "why don't I smoke this more often."
