Wessex - Burley Slice 50g
Stellar
Hands down the best burley flake available. It’s clearly high quality. Think of this as a more refined ABF. It’s not as sweet/sour as ABF. It’s more malty and molassesy. It’s not insanely complex, but it does keep you interested. Burns slow and cool. Hard to go wrong with anything with a Wessex label on it.

G. L. Pease - Windjammer 2oz
A New Favorite Navy Flake
If you like navy flakes this one is unique. One of the most well balanced blends I think I’ve ever had. Tasty from first light to the bottom of the bowl. This is already at the top of my list for navy flakes, and absolutely in my rotation. I can’t get enough. I love it. Well done Mr Pease, well done.

Amphora - Kentucky Blend 1.75oz
ODF little brother
Smells exactly like Old Dark Fired. I find this blend to be a little lighter and a little sweeter then it’s big brother. I could smoke this all day. I honestly prefer this to ODF.

Reiner - Blend No. 71 100g
Sleeper not often mentioned
This one is rarely mentioned when people ask about virgins based blends. I’m not sure why. It’s one of the best offerings currently available.

Wessex - Brigade Campaign Dark Flake 50g
Simply The Best
This is personally my favorite straight Virginia. I do not have experience smoking a fresh tin, but I imagine a fairly similar experience. My tins are all 7 years old. Very rich and full flavored. So many subtle nuances if you search for them, or you can easily “not think” about it and just smoke. Smells like pineapples out of the tin. The flakes are not beautiful perfectly rectangular shapes like Solani or Mac Baren, this is more of a big wad of tobacco. This is only cosmetic and doesn’t matter to me at all. Just thought I’d mention it. Seems like much older (square tins) had uniform flakes. Highly recommend if you like Virginias.

G. L. Pease - Chelsea Morning 2oz
Excellent
Honestly I have not had a GL Pease blend I did not like. This one is no exception. In fact this might be my favorite so far. This is what Dunhill/Peterson EMP wishes it could be. Very balanced and mellow but packs some flavor. Extremely enjoyable perhaps all day smoke. I’ll be buying some big tins of this one.

Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear 2oz
Summertime in a tin
This is extremely enjoyable. It smokes cool and its light and refreshing. Perfect on a sunny summer morning with a cup of coffee to get the day going. It’s not an aromatic like some folks are saying. There is a difference between a casing and a topping. You can taste the wonderful honey and elderflower and tequila, however the honey takes front stage. With those slight casing flavors, you still predominantly taste quality Virgina tobacco with the aged orientals dancing in the background. This is probably my all time favorite blend. I bought as many as I could. I will buy as many as I can again, if it’s re-released. Highly recommended to give a tin or two a try.

Seattle Pipe Club - Vashon Island 1.75oz
Fantastic smoke
Honestly it’s hard to pick out tobacco flavors in this blend. If you like vanilla and Carmel this is definitely for you. It’s very sweet and smooth. Wonderful after dinner desert smoke.

Sutliff - Eastfarthing 1.5oz
Excellent
Very tasty and pleasant aroma. Will definitely order again.

Cornell & Diehl - Granby Station 2oz
Great
This is one of the best tasting aromatics I’ve had. Highly recommended.
