About Me:
I am a retired Coast Guard Warrant Officer. I smoked a pipe in the early 70's and 80's. Gave it up and started piping again about 6 years ago.

Sutliff - RL-BD
Pretty smooth.
This blend is smooth with little or no bite. It's a medium English aromatic that is satisfying. It is sold by other dealers as a match for House of Windsor "Barking Dog".

Cornell & Diehl - Stratfordshire
Don't tell Greg.
Maybe it's the addition of the black cavendish or just the ratio of the blend but I find that I am going to this blend more than Westminster and Westminster by GLP is very good. This blend is very well balanced.

Cornell & Diehl - Rajah's Court 8oz
Good, very good.
I was just sitting in my garage (that's the smoking room at my house) sampling different C&D wares and came to the conclusion that I like Rajah's Court better than Star of the East Flake and Star of the East Gold. This stuff is delicious. I wish C&D produced this in bulk. It's a little expensive at 30 something a pop for 8 oz. but I will most likely order more.

Mixture No. 79 - Mixture No. 79 1.5oz
This has changed.
I received a pouch of M79 from S. P. a coupla days ago. I have tried M79 in the past and the pouch note was like some bath powder smelled that my grandmother had some 60 odd years ago. When I opened the pouch of the newly received M79, it smelled more like root beer. It is a mild smoke and really isn't bad. I may change the rating as I smoke a few more bowls. One thing that caught my eye was that on the pouch was: Manufactured by Sutliff Tobacco, a Mac Baren company.

Daughters & Ryan - Rimboché S.J. 16oz
Becoming a D&R fan.
Of the 3 Rimboche blends I like the S. J. the most. After lighting, this stuff has some spice. About mid bowl is where I really like the taste. Not a whole lot of additives in this blend. I just received a lb. of it, so will be set for a while.

Daughters & Ryan - Vengeur 16oz
To each their own.
Again D&R gets a bad rap. I bought a tin of this a while back and just got into it and enjoying it very much. This is unadulterated tobacco. It comes quite dry but all D&R tobacco I have tried comes dry. It's good stuff and every palate is different.

Peter Stokkebye - PS84 Turkish Blend
Natural.
I received a couple oz. of this blend today and I like it. I am starting to appreciate tobaccos that do not have a lot of additives. PS84 seems to be pretty natural. So many of the blenders add more than I think is needed. I know that they want to control mold and moisture level but I hate chemical taste in tobacco. Blenders like Peter Stokkebye, Daughters & Ryan And C & D seem to be using just enough.

Daughters & Ryan - Picayune 40g
I agree.
I agree with the previous reviews of this blend. This stuff is stout and has a great flavor. I also agree with Kevin P., that this blend rates 5 stars in strength. All in all, it's very satisfying. I suggest that you smoke this blend after a full meal and remain seated after you finish the bowl.

Daughters & Ryan - Windsail 16oz
I agree with Amy B.
Again, I think that D & R is underestimated and I agree with Amy B. but not for RYO, I smoke it in a pipe. In my experience most of D & R tobaccos come pretty dry. Not a problem for me. I like them a little dry. I don't detect any additives like humectants. It's just honest, good tobacco.

Daughters & Ryan - Three Sails 3.5oz
I like it.
I think that D & R gets a bad rap. They started out as a RYO company and some of their tobaccos still look like RYO but they add few additives to their blends, if any. This blend is good Virginia. Unlike a lot of Virginia (McB's), this don't bite me like a mad dog. I keep coming back to this blend. It is good unadulterated tobacco.

Cornell & Diehl - Byzantium
Love it. Go to.
First: Reviews are subjective. One person's treasure may be another's trash. That being said, this is what I think of this blend. This is most likely the best tabacco that I have ever smoked and I have smoked a lot. This has become my number one. What a lovely mix. C & D made a winner with this blend .

Sutliff - 707 Sweet Virginia
Finally, a good mixture.
Most of the time its better to leave it to the master blenders but on occasion I like to dabble in mixing my own every now and then. I first mixed 4 oz.of C & D Red Virginia Ribbon with 2 oz. of C & D Granulated Perique. It was smokable but a little on the knock your socks off side. I had 2 oz. of Sutliff 707 Sweet Virginia and thought "what the hell" this will probably tone the mix down. It did indeed and the result is I like this mix better than Elizabethan.

Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus
Good Stuff.
I am a fan of C&D blends, except for their aromatics or for that matter most any aromatic. My favorite C&D blend is Red Odessa but when you need a change of pace, Pegasus Is very good. This is good burley based smoke. It tastes a lot like Big and Burley without the hiccup causing nic hit.

Tampers & Tools - 8deco Legend Tamper Black
Good tamper but...
This is a good tool if your pipes have a sufficient chamber diameter. It makes perfect mounds in the center of the chamber but if you have pipes with a small diameter chamber, such as some of the smaller Ropp's, it will not tamp to the bottom of the chamber. If you have small chambered pipes, you better keep your Czech tool.

Cornell & Diehl - Exclusive
I was shy.
After reading the product description and the customer reviews, I kind of shied away from this blend. Yes, it's strong (it gives me the hiccups) but after tasting it, I ordered a pound. The wonderful flavor is worth getting the hiccups.

Stands & Pouches - Tobacco Pouch Humidifier
Great little buttons.
I bought five of these a little while back and just ordered ten more from SP. There is a lot of blends that I have not jarred and these little guys are great just to throw in the tin.

Cornell & Diehl - Shelbyton
When will I learn...
In my quest to find favorite tobacco blends, I have tried a lot of aromatics. To me they are sickening sweet or just produce hot, tongue biting, perfumed air. The closest I have come to liking an aro is Erinmore Mixture. It would appear that I need to forget aro's all together.

Cornell & Diehl - Belmont Station
I'm lucky.
I keep trying aromatics and keep being disappointed. I'm sure that there is quality tobacco in this blend but the casing or topping gags me. Luckily, my next door neighbor loves aromatics, so he benefits from me trying to like aromatics.

Sutliff - Ready Rubbed Match
I'm becoming a codger.
I received 4 oz. of this, this morning and had a bowl. I then had a bowl of Lane's version. I think the Sutliff version is smoother. I get a little bite from LRR. This is a good blend to relax with and not think about. It was a one light, tamp and enjoy.

Sutliff - 212 - Burley Delight
Good blend.
I like this blend. I was apprehensive of what this was going to be like. I was very happy when I opened the bag and there was no detectable essence. I was very disappointed when I received a bag of Lane BL/WB and found that it was an aromatic. I have tried to like aromatics but I think that they are not for me.

Cornell & Diehl - Red Odessa
Ah, yes
Odessa is very good. Red Odessa borders on sublime. Take away the burley from Odessa and add red virginia and this blend gets sweeter.

Cornell & Diehl - Odessa
Very good.
Odessa is very tastey. For me it gets good after the initial light and you lose some of the burley earthy taste. It gets real tastey near the bottom of the bowl.

Cornell & Diehl - Habana Daydream
Yum.
I like this better than Billy Budd. Maybe it's the omission of burley and the addition of black cavendish. It has superb taste and some creamy smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Orion's Arrow
Not bad but...
Orion's Arrow does not taste bad but is a little Oriental forward for my taste. I will revisit the blend after a little aging.

Cornell & Diehl - Oriental Silk
Very good flavor.
I just received 2 oz. of this and I will be ordering more. At first light, I didn't think that I liked it much but then the orientals and perique kicked in and oh my, what flavor. By mid bowl I'm thinking I've got to have more of this. 7/2/2020 Reevaluation: I received a tin of this and two Arklows this morning and I had forgotten how good it is. It is a little sour in a good way with a little nip from the perique. Very enjoyable. About to order 16 oz. As a side note, it is a good break in tobacco. I put a good heal in the bowl of an Arklow B11 after two bowls.

Lighters - Kiribi Kabuto Black Matte
Exceptional Lighter
For the price, this lighter is exceptional. Once filled with butane this lighter fires up about 3 times as long as other lighters I own. Very good flame control.

Prince Albert - Prince Albert 14oz
Hillbillies?
Hillbillies indeed. Prince Albert has been around since 1856 and is still here. That says a lot about the blend. It packs nice and it's a blend that you can sit back, enjoy and meditate. It is a good OTC. I wonder when SmokingPipes will stock Velvet.

Mac Baren - HH Acadian Perique 1.75oz
Ah, the taste.
I note that some people refer to this blend as a VA/Per. To me, it's more kitchen sink. Most of Mac B's Virginias bite me like a mad dog, this doe's not and the taste is wonderful.

Carter Hall - Carter Hall 1.5oz Pouch
Change of heart or taste..
About a month ago I gave this a 2 1/2 rating but after smoking a few more bowls, I have come to realize that sometimes its good to smoke a mild, non pretentious blend like Carter Hall. When you need a break from the lat, perique and various other blends, it's nice to sit back with this blend and meditate.
