Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Night 2oz
Delicious but Dangerous
This is a delicious blend with full flavor from top to bottom of the bowl. Be warned though, gents, puff too fast and you will be hit with vitamin N that may make it impossible to stand, and retrohale a full drag and your nose may burn off your face. One of my favorites.

Cornell & Diehl - Black Frigate 2oz
Didn’t do me like I needed to be done
I had some decent hopes for this but after half of a tin I am beginning to feel like it just isn’t meant to be. It is a decent smoke, but it doesn’t do anything well to my tongue. Latakia is there but not enough. The Virginia and orientals pop out a bit, and the rum gives you that under tone for the entirety of the bowl. Nothing stands out though, and that is the issue for me.

G. L. Pease - Maltese Falcon 2oz
Perfectly described
I enjoy smoking a few bowls and reviewing my tasting notes before I read any descriptions or reviews. It leads to an unbiased idea of the smoke. My notes read of entries like “perfect all day English” “Latakia up front for a bit and then balanced by a sweet Virginia” “unknown extra flavor coming through mid bowl”. Truly a delicious English blend that will give you the Latakia you want without bombing you. Give you the sweetness you want without dominating you. And leave you staring into the further contemplating what that delicious flavor you are picking up in between puffs. EMP and Presbyterian are too light for me to call an all day smoke. This is the perfect all day smoke. I will be buying more.

Cornell & Diehl - Dreams of Kadath 2oz
“Big Boy” Aromatic
This is a tasty blend but the topping is pretty intense! I was hoping to delve into the dreamland the tin had suggested but the deliciousness of the topping kept me from drifting too far. Very good - but not for somebody who is looking to dissect raw tobacco flavor. I suggest pairing it with a cold Dr. Pepper, because after a few bowls I realized the topping tastes just like it! A match made in heaven!

G. L. Pease - Stratford 2oz
Wonderfuly ballanced
A good, honest VaPer. Nothing in this blend hits too hard. In reviewing my tasting notes it was quite common to bound back and forth between a Virginia dominated puff and a Perique one. Very pleasant all the way to the bottom of the bowl, and one that I will keep in my rotation for the foreseeable future when I want ballance in my smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Afternoon Delight 2oz
A standard VaBur
Aptly named and well suited for a midday summer smoke, but not much going on here. The maple casing is well done but light, as are the Latakia and Orientals. The main player for me is burley, which is unfortunate, as I am not much of a fan. If any other players were amped up just a bit I would have enjoyed it more but they really sit behind the burley at all levels of the bowl. I will not be buying more.

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
A true stand out
I am a relatively novice man of the pipe but even so, this is a true stand out blend. It is smooth and ever changing in its delivery of flavor. Looking back at my tasting notes I have written down everything from chocolate to apricots whilst attempting to pick apart this masterpiece. A work of art.

Peterson - Balkan Mixture 50g
Unremarkable
This one did not suit me the way it did others. In this day and age there are so many other blends that offer more than this one does. It would be suited for a summer evening potentially when something fairly light is wanted, but on a cold winter day it leaves a lot to be desired. The Perique does come through and tingle the mouth pretty well, which will warm you up if nothing else. I will not be repurchasing. Update: Upon smoking this a few more times I am upping my grade to 3.5. Still not a dramatically complex blend, but one that I can find some enjoyment with.

G. L. Pease - Blackpoint 2oz
Too complex for me at this time.
Although nothing at all wrong with this blend, I find it way too “complex” for my young and under developed tobacco palate. I have struggled through half of a tin of this trying to get the incredible experience others are obtaining and I just can’t find it. I do taste some spice at times. I do taste some VA. And some tang as well from the oriental, but at the end of the day I just can’t make any of it out enough to give this a better rating. I am going to cellar this one for a while, so the blend and my taste buds can develop into something more concrete. Will update in the future.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 100g
Sweet with slight spice
This tobacco always makes me smile when I light the bowl up again. When the smoke hits my palate I think every time that it tastes as sweet as any candy I have ever had. Maybe also a bit like mango or apricot juices. So delicious. After about mid bowl I welcome the sweetness falling into the background to a very slight spice coming from the perique. Just enough to balance the sugar of the Virginia. A great summer smoke that can be enjoyed all day. Just perfect for those hot humid days.
Hurricane Florence Update- ► Very glad to hear everyone is safe. My family and I were supposed to fly down to Myrtle on Sunday and I was very much looking forward to visiting the shop. Maybe next year!
