Sutliff - Z88 Maple Walnut
Sutliff Maple Walnut
Sutliff Maple Walnut is a wonderful blend of White Burley, Red Virgina, and a bit of Black Cavendish. The toppings are Maple and creamy Walnut. I suggest "puffers" try this blend, as it has never "bitten" me, even when smoked hard. Your co-habitants will comment positively to the Pancake House odor, and your tounge will reward you on the sweet intake and nutty retrohale.
Sutliff - Christmas Spice
Sutliff Christmas Spice
Sutliff Christmas Spice is a cousin to Sutliff Maple Walnut, in that they start with a base of Burley, Cavendish, & Virgina; with a low nic-hit and satisifing burley undertone. Then comes the toppings, a caramel that is smooth and sweet. Then on the retro-hale, as you let the smoke waft-out; you get the spicy cinnamon notes on the back of your throat. Wonderful.
Super Value - Buttered Rum 1.5oz
Super-Value Buttered Rum 1.5 oz
I am a luver of Sutliff Maple-Walnut(SMW) and I will be comparing Super-Value Buttered Rum(SVBR) with it. SVBR is moist as it comes from the pouch and requires drying before being smoked, and even so it leaves dampness in the bottom of the bowl. Compared to SMW, this blend of burley, virgina, & cavendish is good. The Rum is so-so, like comparing Captain Morgan Rum to Bacardi Rum, good but not great. So comparing SMW to SVBR, is like comparing steak to hamburger. With that in mind SVBR is a good buy.
Sutliff - Great Outdoors 1.5oz
Great Outdoors - Sutliff Private Stock
First I "Luv" Sutliff blends, such as Maple-Walnut(MW) and Rum&Maple(R&M), so when Sutliff Private Stock blends went on sale I grabbed some. Great Outdoors(GO) greated me with the odors of Burley, Black Cavendish, and Vitgina's; topped with licroish. The blend was a liitle damp and took a few hours to dry. The topping burned off quickly, leaving me an almost pure tobacco smoke. It makes for a great "Change of Pace" from MW and R&M, well worth adding to my rotation. Lastly "She" said it was pleasant smelling.
Sutliff - Barbados Plantation 1.5oz
Barbados Plantation - Sutliff Private Stock
I am a "Luver" of Sutliff blends; Maple-Walnut and Rum&Maple. So when this blend went "On-Sale", I grabbed it. Barbados is like a "Big-Brother" to Rum&Maple. The burley and cavendish is topped with lots of rum. It was damp in the tin, and needed drying. The blend tends to cling together and needs care when loaded into the bowl. It needed many relights and was very stout. "She" told me to take it "Outside", as it was too pungent. So I can only give it three and half stars.
Captain Black - Premium Edition Red Sky 1.75oz
Captain Black: Red Sky
I have had a mixed history with Captain Black blends, this one is one of the better blends. Black Cavendish, Burley, and a touch of Gold Virgina, smokes well, and is not over powered by the "Cherry" topping. This would be a good "all-day" smoke, with just a hint of "Cherry".
Seattle Pipe Club - Narrows Bridge 1.75oz
Seattle Pipe Club: Narrows Bridge
April 12, 2019: I treated myself and bought two "Cherry" topped blends, this cost two bucks more than the other, and it was worth it. The "Cherry" was natural, and mated well with the light vanilla. Burley and Black Cavendish are a delight, giving a bite free smoke. If you are looking for a great "Cherry" blend, try this one.
Sutliff - Tobacco Galleria: Rum & Maple
Sutliff: Rum & Maple
Sutliff: Rum & Maple is my "Go-to" blend after Sutliff: Maple Walnut. Both blends are "Old", dating back to the early 1900's. Rum & Maple is my second choice as an "All-Day" blend; the Burley and Virgina's provide a mild/medium smoke with sweet maple lording over rum. Even when smoked hard, the blend does not "bite". Four and a half stars.
Sutliff - Creme Brulee
Sutliff: Creme Brulee
Sutliff: Crème Brulee is an incredible rich tobacco blend with Black Cavendish, Burley, & Virgina; topped with Vanilla/Caramel and Honey notes. It is damp as it comes from the bag, and requires some drying. It is rich and needs relights; to become light ash. Also have pipe cleaners to "pick-up" the gloop at the "heel" of the pipe as smoked. Excellent "After-Dinner" blend, that I rate Four-Star.
Sutliff - B25 Dark Chocolate
Sutliff Dark Chocolate
I purchased Sutliff Dark Chocolate, as my tin of Cornell & Diehl - Corn Cob Pipe is almost gone and I wanted a replacement. Sutliff Dark Chocolate(SDC) is a blend of Cavendish, Burley, and Bakers Chocolate, that packs well, lights well, and smokes okay. The burley gives body to the mix, the Cavendish adds a good burning quality. The Baking Chocolate is good from the pouch, but becomes quite full by the bottom of the bowl. I like Sutliff Maple Walnut(SMW), SDC lacks the mellowness of SMW; but it will appeal to smokers of Sutliff Rum & Maple(SRM) for its medium chocolate flavor.
Seattle Pipe Club - Pioneer Square 1.75oz
Seattle Pipe Club; Pioneer Square
Purchased this blend March 14, 2018. It reminds me of the discontinued CupOJoes Maricoxi. It is a virgina & Cavendish blend; so there is a low nic-hit. There is a very lite honey/caramel topping, that vanishes by mid-bowl. An excellent breakfast blend, but sip it slow; it can bite puffers.
Seattle Pipe Club - Vashon Island 1.75oz
Seattle Pipe Club; Vashion Island
Purchased this blend on March 14, 2018. This blend reminds me of the discontinued CupOJoes Bigfoot. A wonderful burley, virgina, & black Cavendish; topped with carmel. The nic-hit is mild/medium, as is the room note. Lights well, and only needed one relight. The nic-hit is not as good as CupOJoes Bigfoot, so the three and a half star rating. Grab this blend while you can.
Super Value - Peach 12oz
Super Value Peach
SmokingPipes recently offered Super Value tobaccos at a 20% off, and I took the offer. I started smoking in 1969 with John Rolfe and decided I would see how Super Value Peach would compare. I found this drug-store blend to be heavily "topped" with an artificial peach. The burley, Cavendish, and Virginia blend; smoked okay. As a puffer, I got a bite towards the bottom of the bowl. A budget blend that at 20% off, I found worthy of my money.
