McConnell - Black Flake 50g
One of the best VaPer's out there
Perique is to pipe tobacco what Hops is to beer. We know what happens when it's overdone, or made into a gimmick, vs when it's expertly used as a condiment. Though the description says there is onlya slight offering of perique in this blend, it certainly tastes like there is a lot more. The perique flavor is strong here, but done in a way that to me works extremely well. This is a great example of perique offering up those complex plummy notes, vs when it's done badly and all you get is rancid tartness. This is a blend for experienced pipe smokers, but it is excellent.

Samuel Gawith - Kendal Cream Flake 50g
Sneaky good for people who love Burley flakes
The lakeland is strong if you are a beginner, but if you aren't, it's quite nice. What's great about this blend though, is how much the burley stands out. Burley in flake form is hard to find outside of a few great blends like Solani Aged, HH, and Wessex. This doesn't sell itself as a burley flake, but it is. And its very good.

Solani - Aged Burley Flake - 656 50g
Solani does it again.
Always been ambivalent when it came to Burley. This is a new experience. This is what Burley could be if everyone had the skill of the folks at Solani. Light in flavor with a gentle sweetness and pecan like flavor, but with a creamy and rich full bodied mouthfeel. Definitely the type of blend that could be an everyday smoke.

Half and Half - Half and Half 12oz
New favorite of the Codgers
I used to like Prince Albert as my go to OTC, but this has taken the crown. Tastes more natural than the other OTC's. You get some sweetness from the VA and the lightly fruity casing. Burns hotter than other OTC's, which at least leads me to believe that there really is VA in it.

Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Most balanced latakia blend there is
This is perfection. If you want a lat bomb, or a sweet lat, then there are many good options. If you want something and weaves everything together perfectly, this is one. I smoke this more often than I ever intend to smoke any one blend. Just excellent.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding 2oz
Believe the hype
This stuff really is that good. Endlessly complex and flavorful and pleasing. Rich and deep, sometimes sweet, sometimes not. Beautiful stuff.

Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Gourmet shit right here
One of the most complete pipe smoking experiences I've ever had. Incredibly complex with so many different flavors all engaging at the same time. It's a symphony for sure. Highly recommended. It's both full flavored while being mild bodied in a way that facilitated it being a great all day smoke.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - American Delite 50g
Great if you are in the mood for cool smoking aro
I understand why OTC old school American burley's have an appeal, and in my opinion, it's mostly because they smoke cool. Outside of that, they are not as good as more VA heavy tobaccos, but it's always nice to get a break from the tongue bite. This is where this blend comes in. It's balanced and far more VA heavy than the usual cool smoking blend, and yet it manages to smoke just as cold. Quite nice, especially for a multitasking smoke.

Carter Hall - Carter Hall 1.5oz Pouch
I tried my best to like it.
The pros are that it smokes so cool and burns so well that it's a good tobacco for when you are out and about and busy. The problem is that it just doesn't taste very good. The chemical qualities of the flavoring linger far too much, and it tastes pretty bad if you've smoked something better recently. I keep reading people say how it tastes like "real" tobacco, but most of what I get is a cheap liqor note mixed in with tobacco. It's not the worst thing ever, but I wasn't able to get through a whole pouch. I feel a bit defeated.

Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Perfectly good, but not worth the price.
It's far too expensive. It's a charming tobacco given it's history, and it's fun to have classics in your cellar, but it's nothing special. It's good, that's all.

Lane Limited - 1-Q
First aromatic. Tastes like fresh sugarcane.
I was raised not to smoke aromatics, and some of them sound truly disgusting, but this is really quite wonderful. Endlessly pleasant. Will probably smoke it all the time.

Sillem's - Councilor 1695 50g
Deserves more attention
For people who love Capstan Blue or Escudo, this belongs in their rotation. Balanced VaPer with no real flaws. Light in flavor but, the subtlety is a nice change of pace.

Peter Stokkebye - PS17 English Luxury
Delicious go to English
Tangy, sweet & savory. Something specific is lurking, like maybe they cheated and sprinkled in a little caramel or nougat cased leaf to add a dash of yumminess to the mix. I don't like English blends that taste like burnt tires (to each their own of course), I prefer something complex, and this is blend is cheap, easy to find in a pinch, and always always satisfying. Dunhill 965 and Gawith Balkan Mixture are similar blends that achieve the same thing for me.

Solani - Virginia Flake - 633 50g
One of the best
Tangy and distinct. Always pleasurable. Truly a top notch flake.

Mac Baren - Mixture Scottish Blend 9oz
That damned finish
First the good: It smokes really well, and on the front has a complex and interest set of flavors. And again, smokes great. Burns perfectly. The bad: The cigarette aftertaste makes me nauseous and is conspicuous.

G. L. Pease - Sixpence 2oz
Fancy
So complex. Not one I smoke often because I'm usually out and about and doing things while I have a clench happening. This is for sitting and smoking and thinking about what you are tasting. It's a sweet blend, but not a sweetness that's easy to describe. No heavy flavors, but a very full body.

McClelland - 2035 - Dark Navy Flake
High maintenance. Delicious.
Tastes how it looks. Dried fruit and rich sweetness. Would be a really nice all day smoke but it takes a lot of effort and needs to dry out etc.

Mac Baren - HH Acadian Perique 3.5oz
Tastes like a damn cigarette
It burns well and lights well, but so do cigs. Not into this blend at all. Might as well have smoked a camel. It's all subjective, of course, so cheers to those who enjoy it.

G. L. Pease - Barbary Coast 2oz
Unique and tasty, but intense.
Funny that anyone could think of this as a light smoke. The brandy finish is really rich and lingers all day. It tastes like a Christmas pudding. I like it, and it's something I'd want to have around, but it is very specific.

McClelland - 2030 - No. 1 Grade Balkan
Mellow, balanced and very cool smoking.
Seems to me this would be a great first Lakatia smoke for someone. The unique flavor comes through, but is muted with some light sweetness. It's light but well rounded. A great all day smoke, and leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

Peter Stokkebye - PS403 Luxury Bullseye Flake
Mild, sweet, pleasing.
And it smokes well. I often have to take my smokes while walking around New York City, so keeping a pipe lite and smoking can be challenging. This flake is tasty and easy on the palate, while being an easy smoke, too. A great daily smoker when in the mood for something un-challenging and pleasant.

Orlik - Dark Strong Kentucky 50g
Delicious
Agree that it's a great all day smoker. Fully bodies and sweet. Molasses from start to finish, and lingering finish that is so pleasant. I love this tobacco. After not enjoying the golden sliced, I was pleased to enjoy this one from Orlik is not just pretty packaging after all.

Samuel Gawith - Best Brown Flake 50g
Unique and in the best possible way
My daughter took the tin from my hand and took a whiff and said "it smells like tamarind". That's it! I was trying to find a way to articulate the great tin note, which happens to translate into taste as well. Tangy dried fruit with a lasting and satisfying aftertaste that is both sweet and tart. It smokes well (maybe a bit hot at times but that's probably on me for smoking it too fast) and is an easy flake to become one's daily go to.
