Peterson - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Mostly still the same
Pretty much the same thing as Dunhill's "version" but lacking a little of Dunhill's depth of flavor, ONLY because the Peterson tins are lacking age. With some age (a few months or more), Peterson EMP will taste exactly like Dunhill EMP. As it is now, Peterson's EMP is still a beautiful tobacco, still smokes great, still tastes wonderful, and it remains my favorite smoke. Same flavor profile as Dunhill (even without age), just without a bit of depth, which some age will bring to it. I'm thrilled to see this come back. Even if it doesn't (yet) match Dunhill's EMP richness. If you were a fan of the Dunhill version, as I was, this one won't disappoint you.

Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
So far, REAL good
Smoked well. Stayed lit. No bite. Taste was tobacco-y with a nice hint of maple and vanilla. Flavors are very balanced For me, that's ideal because I don't want to taste a ton of casing. This tasted good. Moisture was just about perfect. It could have used a tiny bit of drying, but it smoked fine as-is. Some have complained that it's too wet. Others have complied it was too dry. I don't get it, because for me it was fine. I wouldn't smoke this too frequently. I'm more of an English smoker. But I do like aromatics on occasion, and what I like about this one is that it has the sweetness and room note of a good aromatic with the body and smoky-ness of a light English blend.

Amphora - Original Blend 1.75oz
Surprisingly nice
This is a nice tasting pipe tobacco. I don't really taste the topping/casing. It's bland in that sense. But what I do taste is a very nice tobacco! A nicely balanced blend that smokes well, is easy to enjoy, simple, and honest. It's not a fancy blend. But it's not boring. I enjoy the taste. I have plenty of top shelf tobaccos but I enjoy this when I just want a simple smoke that I don't have to think about. During a drive, or when I just want to smoke my pipe for 10 or 15 minutes and I just want something low key and easy. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I do. I value this blend. Don't expect a luxury blend here. Don't expect a truckload of different flavors. Smoke it for a nice tobacco experience from a nicely balanced blend that has a nice body, isn't too light, isn't too strong, and tastes nice. Appreciate the tobacco's taste without looking for the topping/casing, and you'll enjoy this.

A lot of work. Little reward
It wasn't an enjoyable smoke for me. Flavor profile is just nice but only "nice"...not terribly interesting. The tobacco is predictably hard to keep lit, plus because it's so strong I had to be a little more considerate and calculated in how I smoked it so that it didn't knock me on my behind. The calculated smoking, and constant relighting made it feel like work to smoke this stuff. Which wouldn't be terrible, except that the work didn't reward me with a flavor worth the annoyance. Too much work, too little reward. I'll pass. Tell you the truth, there are much better, and richer Virginias out there that are 2 to 3 bucks cheaper. I don't know how G.L. Pease commands these price points. Most of the blends don't live up to them.

Mixed Feelings
It's good. But not something I'll have regularly. I'll finish the tin, then I'm done with it. It's very strong. Very "tobacco-y" and earthy. Not BAD but just too one-sided of a flavor profile. The taste of the casing is there (Rum, citrus, maybe something else) but it's not present enough for me. All I taste is earth. I have nothing bad to say about this blend. It's just not what I prefer. I expected to fall in love with this blend but it didn't happen. I've had other Virginia+Kentucky blends that I thought were more flavorful, between the casing and the natural earthy-ness of the tobacco. This one didn't hit that mark. I see where Pease was going with this. He probably nailed it. The question is, is it what you're looking for in a smoke. For me the answer was no.

G. L. Pease - Chelsea Morning 2oz
It's good, but...
This is a good blend, but it isn't my favorite morning smoke. I saw 3 reviews on it, by smokers whose opinions are trustworthy. All 3 of them said things like "I like it, but I don't know if I love it....I'm not sure I'll get more of it....I don't know if I'm jumping on board this one yet". Now having smoked 4 bowls of it, I agree with all of those statements. It's a good blend, but not mind blowing. It has a nice, balanced flavor, but it's just a little TOO light. My standard is Dunhill's EMP, (Or Daybreak which is very similar) but when I want something lighter than that, I find C&D's Good Morning is flavorful, complex, and lighter/more relaxed than EMP so it's a nice alternative. Chelsea Morning, to my taste, is a little too light. It would be a good light alternative to EMP, if I didn't have Good Morning to fill that slot already. And I believe Good Morning is a little more enjoyable than Chelsea Morning. But this blend is definitely nice. Flavor is good, and rather unique, though I wish it had just a bit more presence. The tobacco behaves well, burns well. It's a class act, worth trying. I just think that for a premium tobacco, by a top-notch blender, at a somewhat premium price, this tobacco should be a little more mind blowing than it is. Maybe with some age it will be mind blowing. I'll probably by an 8oz tin and cellar it for a while, and smoke it on occasion when I feel like something out of the ordinary. But I doubt I'll smoke this with any regularity. Like I said, it's good but it doesn't blow me away. My standard morning smokes (EMP, and Good Morning) are a little more satisfying...and a little less expensive

Captain Black - Original 12oz
A gold classic!
This was my first tobacco because it was available everywhere, and it continues to hold a special place in my heart, and on my tobacco shelf. It needs a little drying time to get the best experience from it. It's not a top of the line tobacco, but it's a great one. Burns well. Beautiful room note. Mild but wonderful flavor.

Cornell & Diehl - Americana 2oz
Didn't like it
I don't get this blend. I don't get a sense of "memory lane" at all. And I don't get what C&D was trying to achieve in terms of flavor. I just didn't enjoy it. Tried it for a few bowls, in both a cob and a briar pipe. Now I've given up. This is a blend I just don't get.

Cornell & Diehl - Bradyville 2oz
Great smoke
I bought this in bulk, not the tin. But the tin/bag note was beautiful. The smoke is enjoyable as an aromatic but has the substance of a mild english. Very tasty. For my tastes, this is perfect because I sometimes want something easy-going in the evening but most aromatics are a little too easy going while english or burley blends are stronger than I want on some evenings. Bradyville is a perfect balance. A nice, relaxing smoke that doesn't bore you after the first 5 minutes.

WOW!
This is a fantastic blend! Someone else wrote "Not for civilians" and I have to agree. It's a bold and hearty smoke. But no bite. A little sweetness but not a sweet blend. The tin note for me was A1 Steak sauce. Very savory. I do kind feel like I'm smoking a delicious steak when I smoke this blend, that's how rich the flavor profile is. I'll repeat, not for civilians. It's bold as Dunhill's 965 but this stuff is a much more enjoyable smoke. It may not make a good morning smoke (your tastes will vary) but it's great in the evening, or after dinner. Real nice work on this one, C&D! I'll definitely be buying more!

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
Not a fan
For me personally this tobacco's flavor profile is just oppressive and unenjoyable. Everybody's tastes are different, and I'm sure the people who like this tobacco like it for all the right reasons....for them. For my tastes, this tobacco wasn't good. I like that it's "rich", but I wish it was rich in a flavor that's enjoyable. When the flavor is not enjoyable, "rich" is just another word for "oppressive". I like nice latakia blends, but not latakia bombs, which this blend is. In my opinion, for my personal tastes, a better tobacco for a "quiet night" would be a nice burley, or even a deep aromatic like St. Bruno Flake.

Peter Stokkebye - PS17 English Luxury
Nice, light, but not boring
I prefer Dunhill English blends but this is a nice and tastey alternative when I want something light, but don’t want an aromatic. Smokes well. Very mellow and easy on the Latakia but not boring. For me it’s definitelt worth keeping around

Cornell & Diehl - Morley's Best 2oz
Exceptional
This is the first Burley I've actually liked. It's a really good, well rounded, flavorful blend. The proportions of Latakia and Virginia are just right. They're in the background, providing a gentle rounding-off of the flavor of the burleys. This is a brilliant blending formula.

Dunhill - My Mixture 965
Not my favorite
After trying this again, I still don't care for it, but it's not as awful as I previously perceived. For me it tastes like a tobacco that tries very hard to be delicious, but doesn't reach the mark; blocked by an overtone of a "mellow cigar" taste, which for me just gets in the way. That's the best way I can describe it. That overtone is a taste that I'm ok with, when smoking a [good] cigar, but it's not something I want any hint of when I smoke a pipe. I'll probably finish the ounce that I bought, because it's not terrible. But I will definitely not buy more of it.

Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe 50g
My favorite!!
This is my #1 tobacco. I could smoke it all day. The tobacco burns very well, the taste is balanced, with a nice body. I've tried a few different Dunhill blends, a couple of non-Dunhill English blends, numerous aromatics and english-aromatics. I've hated some, and loved others. Right now there are about 6 different tobaccos with a permanent place in my daily rotation. Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe is the only tobacco that I smoke every day for one of those 2-3 bows per day. I enjoy it that much. If I could only keep one tobacco out of all the tobaccos in my rotation, it would be this one. Try buying an ounce in bulk if you aren't sure if you'll enjoy it, but definitely give it a try.

Dunhill - My Mixture BB1938 50g
Great smoke!
This is a fantastic smoke. I can see smoking this all day. The flavor is balanced, smokey/savory, but not over the top. If you like Early Morning Pipe, you'll enjoy this as well. It's a similar flavor class, but not the same flavor, so personally I like alternating between this and EMP through the day.

St. Bruno - Flake 1.75oz
Pricey, but good
I enjoy this. It's got a nice body, like an english blend, but doesn't taste like an English. It's got some sweetness like a traditional aromatic but it isn't light like a typical aromatic. Really nice balance. My only problem is that it's pricey and it doesn't justify the 50% higher price tag over most other tins of tobacco. It has to knock my socks off to justify that price tag. It's very good, but it doesn't knock my socks off. Buy a tin and decide for yourselves. It's definitely worth at least trying it.

Sutliff - Christmas Spice
Light, but good
It's a little bit light. But the flavor profile is very nice. I enjoy a lighter tobacco every once in a while, so the lightness isn't a deal breaker for me. The tobacco smells Christmas-spicy for sure. This isn't something I smoke regularly because I Like a bit more body in my tobacco, but at night when I feel like something light, easy, and tasty, this tobacco is one of the choices on my list. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Try just 1oz, to make sure you like it.

CAO - Eileen's Dream 50g
Outstanding
This is a rich, sweet, well balanced and delightful aromatic. I don't bounce around between a bunch of different blends, I have just a few that I stick to, and this is one of them. That's how good it is.

Dunhill - Nightcap 50g
Wow!
I had a tin of Nightcap sitting on my shelf for months and was apprehensive about trying it because of all the reports that it was too strong, or that the nicotine was too intense, etc. But I finally tried it and I like it very much. Really a beautiful, flavorful smoke. Here are a few points: - It's full flavored, rich, and complex. It's really a great blend. -It's definitely a potent tobacco. It's best to smoke this stuff with some food in your stomach. It definitely tastes like an after dinner smoke. -I didn't get some obscene nicotine hit, or nicotine sickness. It's definitely full-strength on the nicotine scale, but to me it wasn't overboard. -However it's strong enough that I wouldn't want to smoke this every day. Just once in a while after a nice meal. -May not be good for new pipe smokers, or pipe smokers who are new to English blends.

Sutliff - D40 Vanilla
Cooperative but too light
This is a good tobacco with regard to its "smokability" but it's extremely light. It burns cool and well. Stays lit pretty well and smells great. But very light on flavor. I don't mind a lighter tobacco but this is too light for me. It's lighter than Lane's 1Q, and to me that's already on the light side. Still, being a cooperative tobacco, and a light one at that, it may be a good tobacco for a new pipe smoker.

Peterson - Hyde Park 50g
So-so
I initially gave this tobacco a bad review, but then tried it in a different pipe and fond it to be a little better. The original pipe I tried it in needed some deep cleaning. In the new pipe I found that I still don't care for the flavor profile of this tobacco, but it isn't as awful as I initially thought in the original pipe. I will probably smoke the rest of this tin here and there for something different but I don't expect to buy it again, unless I fall in love with it by the time I finish the tin. If I do, I'll update my review again.

Dunhill - Aperitif 50g
Love this
Nice flavor and body, without being too strong, or too weak. I was looking for something with a nice body/flavor profile, but something not as "rich" as Early Morning Pipe (which I also love) but not as overpowering as Nightcap. Apertif is perfect. Nice smoke for the evening when you want to taste your tobacco but you don't want to be kicked in the face by it.

Cornell & Diehl - Bijou 2oz
Boring
For me this tobacco lacked flavor. And I mean completely flavor-less. Smelled great in the tin, but had no flavor in the pipe. It was also hard to manage, hard to light, difficult to keep lit. Maybe I got a bad batch, I don't know. All I know is I wasted 10 bucks, and about an hour of my time across 3 smokes, trying to give this tobacco a fair shot at impressing me.

Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe
Not bad after all
I initially wrote a bad review of this blend, but I gave it another shot and it has actually grown on me. Here are a few things to consider: It's full bodied but not a "classic" flavor profile, in my opinion. But as I said it has grown on me and I've been enjoying smoking this blend. It has a bit of a bite to it. A small bite, but a bite nevertheless. I'm buying more of this blend; I enjoy it well enough.
