Lane Limited - 1-Q
The most mediocre tobacco I've tried
As I say in the title. This is not bad, and it's not good. It's the smoothest most tasteless tobacco I've ever tried. The "room note" is quite nice, but I don't care about that. I care about how it tastes when I smoke it. This tastes like warm air. Even on the retrohale I don't get much flavor. It's the most boring tobacco I've ever tried. OTC burly blends like Carter Hall and Prince Albert are far more interesting. Maybe not as smooth, but far more flavor and relaxation. Sorry, I compare everything to Carter Hall. If it's not as good or interesting as Carter Hall it's not worth my time - which I feel like it's a pretty low bar. But, 1Q is smooth and tasteless, and it makes the area around you smell nice. It's the air freshener of pipe tobacco so it's got that going for it.

Really good burley
I cube cut the flake, gravity loaded into my brulor beater and really enjoyed this. This is just good burley without any noticable casings or toppings aside from maybe a slightly sweet casing that I get through the bowl. I like this as a change of pace from my normal routine of Carter Hall or PS41 or ready rubbed match. I get different flavors in every puff which is fun because they are all good. Sometimes a sweet molasses puff, then a nutty savory one, then a spicy earthy one. It's more complicated than my mainstays but not overly so. I worry that people will love this and I won't be able to get it again. I refuse to buy tobaccos for which I have to monitor my email alerts. So this will remain an occasional treat for me, but it is definitely a tobacco that could be an all day smoke.

Tampers & Tools - Brigham Pipe Tool - Bullet
Really cool tool
This bullet is heavy and perfect for tamping. Great quality and looks great.

Just my idiosyncratic opinion
This is not something I will buy or probably smoke again, albeit the quality of the tobacco is top notch. As a codger blend fan myself, this is pretty much that, but lacking in depth of flavor. Straight burley is super mild in taste and kind of absorbs whatever flavors are there and enhances them with a slight nutty and cocoa flavor (the mushrooms or tofu of the pipe tobacco world). The other tobaccos in this are Virginia and unsweetened black cavendish. So to me this tastes like a sweet Virginia blend with a cigarettish flavor floating around. The nice thing about codger blends is the addition of molasses and cocoa (and sometimes bourbon) toppings and/or casings that get enhanced by the natural burley flavor through the smoke. Sure, they are uncomplicated and simple, and some people look down on them. But, this is an even more uncomplicated and simple codger blend. Call it a non aromatic codger blend instead of the semi-aromatic nature of most of them. Taking away that aroma which adds to the natural tobacco flavors just seems wrong to me. This all comes down to my pallet, if you like this that's great, I won't compete with you over stockpiling this. But if you like Carter Hall, ready rubbed (match), PS41, and/or the likes this may not be for you as it's basically those minus the mild casings/toppings. I would say this is closer in flavor to PS41 which is great stuff. That's got all 3 ingredients (burley, VA, and black cav) with a minimal topping and/or casing and that along with the black cav really ties it all together and enhances those molasses and cocoa flavors.

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Bob's Chocolate Flake
Tasty chocolate
Super yummy, but I only hit this up once a month. It's a specific mood I get in, and it's good to have this around. A very tasty English aro.

Cornell & Diehl - Poplar Camp
Very good
Not an all day smoke for me, but a nice treat when I'm in the mood. The addition of the black cavendish really rounds out this VaPer.

Granger - Granger 7oz
Sweet hot funk
I am sure people like this, but I just can't. After 10 minutes the smoke started to bite my tongue and there was a lot of moisture in the bowl. The flavor is sweet funk. I will stick with Carter Hall, ERR match, and PS41.

Peter Stokkebye - PS41 Cube Cut
Delicious old school American burley
For when you want to relax with the likes of Carter Hall, Prince Albert, or Edgeworth Ready Rubbed and you have extra time on your hands, this is perfect. Burns forever, never gets too hot or bites and has that delicious molasses cocoa flavor all the way through. This is unusual for me, but the pouch note on this was underwhelming, but it smokes so well!

Sutliff - Ready Rubbed Match
Yummy chocolatey molasses burley
This and Carter Hall/sutliff estate (aka HH Chatham Manor) are my favorites. The flavor profile on this is similar but noticably different to Carter Hall. This is more molasses and chocolate where CH is bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate. RR match has more natural burley flavor. The tin note is a rich mouthwatering molasses chocolate and that flavor comes through subdued in the smoke with the burley being the star. I highly recommend this blend, it's so good. If you don't like the codgers or refuse to try them, you are really missing out. All my fancy tobaccos are lonely now.

Davidoff - Flake Medallions 50g
Average VaPer/cav
Not bad, also nothing to write home about. My appetite for perique is quite strong. I like blends with 20 percent plus. C&D Exclusive and poplar camp are far superior to this blend. And as far as coins go, escudo and navy rolls are better as well.

Scratches my lat and aro itch
I loved Frog Morton cellar, but it was only an occasional smoke for me. This is definitely not FMC, but it's got some similarities. The lat is light and smokey and the topping is boozy and yummy. I tried a lot of tobaccos in search of a FMC replacement, alas I am convinced none exist. But this one does the best job at scratching that itch for me. This is maybe a twice a month smoke for me. But as far as English aros go, this one is top notch.

Spiced rum VaPer
I have smoked a lot of VaPers and my favorite used to be McClelland 2015 and I still have some of that cellared which is a nice treat. This one is definitely my favorite that is in production. I recently figured out I like burley and unflavored cavendish after 20 years, so this is like taking my favorite VaPer and melding it with my favorite burley/cavendish and topping it with an amazingly spiced delicious rum that actually comes through in the smoke. Like, there is a lot going on, but it all works to make this just fantastic. I find myself reaching for Carter Hall more and more these days, but when I'm not smoking that, you can bet I'm smoking this! I like this better than any of the esoterica VaPers i have tried. I even have an 8 year old cellared Dunbar that's not this good.

Carter Hall - Carter Hall 14oz
Home cooking and warm blankets
In my pipe smoking journey which has been a little over 20 years I never found a tobacco that I wanted every day anytime, until this one. I started out with aromatics and hated them, moved to English/Balkan and enjoyed them sometimes, then to VaPers and really enjoyed the McClelland blends but still not something I wanted everyday. I have a ton of fancy tobaccos in my cellar (BS, esoterica, GL please, McClelland, dunhill, etc), and I enjoyed all of them. But nothing relaxed me or made me want to pack another bowl as much as Carter Hall. I feel like I went in reverse - fancy to OTC, but this stuff is amazing. The HH version of Chatham Manor is also really really good, but different. Both CH and CM are my go to smokes now. Just mellow, uncomplicated, slightly sweet burly with a great room note. Will never bite you and always comforts like home cooking and warm blankets. Plus my mustache smells amazing after smoking this. Like bourbon chocolate smoke, a flavor saver for the rest of the evening. I went through quite a few OTC blends (half & half, SWR, SWRA, Captain Black, PA). Carter Hall, Chatham Manor, and Chestnut (Walnut match) are not just my favorite OTCs, but my favorite pipe tobaccos! Obviously, YMMV, but I have found my happy place after 20+ years.

G. L. Pease - The Virginia Cream 2oz
All DFK
I got a subtle tin note of bourbon, but no vanilla. Upon lighting I got no aromatic notes, mostly just the DFK. The room note is that of a cigar. The tobacco in this blend is good. I just feel completely mislead with this one.
