Cornell & Diehl - Habana Daydream
Classy Smoke
Love slow sipping this in a meerschaum. Pairs well with Scotch or Whiskey. Being offered in bulk is a blessing. Plan to always have this on hand.
Cornell & Diehl - Purple Cow 2oz
Excellent
I burned thru a tin of this pretty fast. The cigar and other condiment tobaccos are there, but for me it just opened up the Virginias to really come out. Sweet, rich, and satisfying. Plan to revisit this one for sure.
Borkum Riff - Black Cavendish 1.5oz
Not bad
I recently tried this one. I've enjoyed the other Borkum blends and manage to get a satisfying smoke from them each time. Borkum just seems to suit my palette and smoking style. This blend appears to have been changed from what I can tell. My pouch label simply says BLACK CAVENDISH in block letters. The inside information on the pouch lid says, "...consists of 50% Black Cavendish tobaccos carefully mixed with ripe Virginia. Flavor: A hint of prune and plum." There is no mention of Burley or Dark Fired Kentucky nor did I perceive any. The topping flavor is there but not overly strong. Ranges from prune or raisin to dry wine. As with other Borkum blends, I find it gets better if the opened pouch sits around for a couple of weeks. Its not goopy but rather a dry smoke and tends to burn on the hot side. I prefer the Bourbon and Whiskey but do enjoy this one. (Smoked with a 9mm Meerschaum)
McClelland - Craftsbury: Frog Morton on the Bayou 50g
Cheery
Enjoyed this one. Woodsy campfire, no bite. Went well with my black chicory coffee in the morning or while sitting on the patio. Pretty mild and easy going, seemed perfect in a cob pipe. Sort of cheered me up.
Mac Baren - 7 Seas Regular 3.5oz
Man Overboard!
I'd heard all about the flavor in this one and read so many good reviews. I was excited to try it out and see for myself. The tin I received was totally devoid of any such flavor. In fact, hardly any aroma to it at all. I tried a few bowls but got absolutely no taste aside from hot air. Smokingpipes graciously sent me fresh tin and I chalked it off as simply a bad batch. New tin, same deal. No taste, barely perceptible aroma inside the tin. Maybe I happened across a bad lot but I'm not impressed at all. The only thing I can say is that it does burn well and has no bite, just no flavor whatsoever. Not sure what went wrong, was expecting better from Mac Baren. Waste of money and tobacco. Update: Decanted this in a glass container for about 4 months. Became much better and flavorful. It was ok but never rose above marginal. I guess the name refers to the moisture content, or rather PG amount. Maybe I just got a bad impression but I'll sail other seas when it comes to aromatics from now on.
