Cornell & Diehl - Pennington Gap 2oz
C&D's Finest Hour
Well well well, we have a winner. Afer many years of sifting through C&D blends ive found a genuinely superb, well thought out mixture with great flavour throughout. Burley, Cav & Perique, cube cut with a splash of Bourbon. smokes cool, flavours are sweet, spicey and a hit of alcohol in the finish, slight spice from the perique, oh yes this is great. Don't tell everybody!
Mac Baren - HH Rustica Flake 3.5oz
Strong, tasty, but not limited..
A strong & tasty smoke, bold flavors and a strong Nic hit. HH Rustica is certainly a strong tobacco, but not in the leagues of something like Tambalouka, infact its way off. Be aware the 3.5oz tin is 'limited' for the US market, but in Europe, the 50g tins are widely available.
Peter Heinrichs - Curly Block 275g
Why so expensive?
Yes, a fantastic VaPer from Peter Heinrichs, deep rich and perfectly balanced with Perique spice & sweet Virginias. The price in 2020 is $80.50 for 275g which in my opinion is far too expensive. I went for Escudo, which IMO is just as good.
Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
18 year old Perique
Carolina Red Flake with Perique is a fantastic blend. 18 year old Perique with sweet 2 year old Red Virginias. Cellar this for a few years so the Virginias catch up & meld with the Perique and you will be in for a treat.
Cornell & Diehl - Smokingpipes 20th Anniversary Blend: XX Flake 2oz
The best of the 2 blends
This is so well balanced, much more refined than the Dark XX, A perfect VaOrPer that will only get better with age. Make sure you cellar this one deep, C&D’s best offering ever.
Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River Rum Barrel Aged 2oz
Lots of people know a good thing the minute the other fellow sees it first.
I wonder where the idea for a barrel stave cube came from? ;-) The Rum does transfer nicely to the tobacco, cool smoking, with spice from the Orientals and smokiness from the Latakia. I wonder with age if more Rum and the wood note from the cube will transfer any. Time will tell.
Peterson - Flake 50g
Yes, it is.
Much upset for the guys who cellared 100+ tins of Dunhill tobacco to flip, only to find Peterson bought the rights to Dunhill's excellent blends. Same factory, same blend, same process as Dunhill's Flake. The only thing that's changed is the sticker on the front. Great solid Brown Virginias, sweet grassy smoke which gets much better with age.
BriarWorks - Bacon Old Fashioned 2oz
Strangest mixture of all time, and not in a good way..
Luckily I only got a sample of this blend. Smells like someone farted in a bottle of Jack Daniels and left it to mature for a year. sadly the taste is no better, some sweet liquor, burned plastic, and rotten drains. Smoked in a cob, even the cob thought id crammed a turd in the bowl. Good God save us!
Former - Jubilee - 50th Anniversary 50g
Very tasty Syrian Latakia blend.
I bought a tin as a test to see if I could tell if the Syrian Lat made such a difference. I loaded a bowl, and was treated to a smooth, Smokey and sweet experience. I went to order a few more tins to cellar, as Syrian Latakia is soon to be extinct, sadly its sold out! Waiting for some more to come in, if it ever does I'll definitely order more. This will age superbly.
Balkan Sobranie - Balkan Sobranie 50g
Germain's Balkan Sobranie is a fantastic Balkan mixture. Super smooth, blended perfectly. Latakia plays a front role but is not overwhelming. Highly recommended.
Cornell & Diehl - Jolly Old Saint Nicholas 2oz
Much better than last years
Possibly the best C&D holiday tobacco so far. Slight Orange note, sweet Virginas and Cavendish with a subtle spice finish behind, which is the Perique. Fantastic effort by C&D after loosing most peoples favourite holiday smoke, Christmas Cheer. Get some before its gone!
Esoterica - Penzance 2oz
A magical smoke in the tradition of British tobacco.
Think about a time when tobacco was simple, Virginia, Turkish, Orientals and Latakia. Perfectly proportioned, blended and pressed into easy to crumble (very easy) thick flakes in the traditional British way, slowly and loosely. The taste and aroma of vintage book shops, leather, mild spice, and a smokey comforting finish washes across the palette. J.F Germain's truly are the masters of rare, time consuming and perfect blends. If you can get this for cost, do so immediately here at SP.
