Mac Baren - HH Vintage Syrian 16oz
Glad that others overlook it
I absolutely love the delicate and complex flavour of the supremely aged Syrian Latakias for 1974 & 1983's bumper crops...these have a different flavour than in years where there weren't bumper crops, because they had to improvise to cure the leaf, to the point of hanging leaf from the rafters of their homes....If it is too subtle for people, fine, but they miss out on so much. In the aged subtlety of the vintage Latakia, there are so many flavours and so much nuance, that you can find new things, even after smoking it for years. i am more than glad to buy all of this that those who are disappointed are going to leave on the shelf.

Samuel Gawith - St. James Flake 250g
Bulk Purchase, perhaps bad batch?
i have always been happy with Gawith. i particularly enjoy the fact that they produce much of their blends on 18th century equipment....BUT this little bulk purchase i made was unsmokable. It was as sour as drinking vinegar...not like the citrus you may get from other VaPers, and it certainly isn't the Lakelands "essence". It was plain awful, and Smoking Pipes refunded me without question, which has made a loyal customer out of me. i am now aging the remainder of the flake to see if anything changes in 6 months or longer that may change it. If it doesn't lose that acrid acidity, it isn't even worth blending with...ill probably end up using it around tomato plants to keep the insects away. Still, i am going to give a tin a go. Many times bulk and tins are quite different, and it is wholly unlike Gawith to produce something like i have in the jar now. i give them a free mulligan on this one, cuz all other Gawith Tabacs have been Bang on.
