Drucquer & Sons - Levant Mixture 100g
Excellent
This stuff is really spot-on for me. I would consider this to be a medium-strong English blend with an emphasis on the oriental component. Maybe you could call it a balkan; everyone defines it differently, it seems. The oriental influence lends a nice bracing acridity to the taste, as compared to something like 'Abingdon' which has more of a smooth deptb. Blends that I find somewhat similar to this one are "Kensington", "rajahs court", "Durbar", "Bombay court".

Sutliff - Match 20
Not a great match
In my opinion this blend is too sweet and heavy in body to be an accurate match. I think there’s a lot more cavendish in this one, and I believe it’s black cavendish that has some sweeteners or mild aromatic element added to it during production. Not a bad blend but not close enough to do it for me. Although the flavor is different I think rattrays black Mallory is a better substitute

Low Country - Waccamaw 2oz
Zippy Virginia/perique/orientals
This has a nice tangy and sharp zing to it. A nice medium strength va-per that’s really enlivened by the addition of tangy oriental leaf. I’d say it’s very similar to both embarcadero and Sunday picnic. More perique than embarcadero, a bit less than Sunday picnic.

Low Country - Cooper 2oz
Fantastic
This is an awesome medium English blend. To me it has the same distinctive soft and sweet aroma that Presbyterian has, but there’s a bit more backbone behind it, as well as contrast so while Presbyterian was cloyingly sweet to me this was balanced and delicious. Highly recommended.

Low Country - Black 2oz
Deceptively aromatic
This blend isn’t listed as an aromatic, but the ‘hint of sweetness’ in the description. Whatever the topping is reminds me of swisher sweets, or something from a gas station. The tobaccos themselves are a good quality but I just can’t get past the topping- there are a number of borderline aromatic blends that are not really advertised as such. It’s disappointing to crack a tin and take a deep sniff only to be met with obvious added aromatics.

McConnell - Latakia Flake 50g
Smooth. Heavy. Dark chocolate.
Not really what I was expecting, much less emphasis on the Latakia than you’d expect in a Latakia flake. Definitely needs some time to dry. Very dark, rich, sweet, and heavy. A dessert blend for sure. I think it’s just too sweet and heavy in body for earlier in the day, or in hot or humid weather. Similar to Mississippi River, plum pudding, Mississippi mud, and probably all other black cavendish/Latakia combinations this can have a kind of muddy taste. Not too much nicotine. I probably won’t smoke this too often but I think it would appeal to smokers who like sweet English blends such as Presbyterian, but want a nighttime or cold weather smoke.

G. L. Pease - Key Largo 2oz
Distinct. Excellent.
Sweet, Smooth, Rich and Brisk are all good adjectives to use. Cigar leaf, Latakia, are easily discernible and in perfect proportion. The use of the cigar leaf allows this to be a heavier dry (at times) English blend while still being light on the Latakia. The Latakia is applied with real restraint to great results. It seems to have around as much as Chelsea morning does, but packs much more weight on its body. The tin art is god awful. It looks like something you’d see on a bundle of awful generic discount cigars. ‘Easy Miamis’ is a good name for them. Maybe they will change it but if not look past it and do your best not to let it give you any preconceptions. Highly recommend
