Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 2oz
Completely overrated but good
This is a descent smoke. The Virginia and burley par nicely together though to me it would benefit with a touch of Perique or Unsweetened Cavendish to give it a bit more body. It's light and fairly straight forward with only two components but is a nice light smoke, which is probably why so many like it. Good smoke to be sure but don't believe the hype.

F & K - Black Bayou Mist
Another winner from F&K
Tried this because I love Lancer Slices and now I love Black Bayou Mist. Full bodied and rich it has more tangy orientals than LS and I think a bit more complex. If you like Lancer Slices I’m pretty sure you will like BBM.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Afternoon Melange
It’s descent.
Quality tobacco but not sure it’s worth the price for me. It’s well blended and rounded, on the mild side for me with no distinct flavour profile but does have the 4th Generation feel to it if that makes sense. If you like Erik S.4th Generation tobaccos you will probably like this.

Sutliff - 507C Virginia Slices
Good, not great.
Good Virginia, topping is mildly detectable blends in well with the tobacco. It’s a good smoke not complicated but nothing to get overly excited about like some people do.

Grand Croupier - Boneyard
Worth it, but let's not get carried away.
Twenty bucks for a pound? Yes, its definitely worth picking up at that price, no doubt about it. It's hard to describe the smoke, because there's no proportion control here. Each smoke is different as is each bag you buy. Some bowls, your thinking its ok. Other bowls, its wow this is pretty amazing stuff for $20. Some smokes are Lat heavy with Perique and some are flat with just Latakia. Its a gamble, hence the name.

F & K - Lancer Ready Rubbed
Sweet and smokey
Just how I prefer my Latakia, with a little bit of sweetness. Nothing overly special here but a well balanced well blend. The Latakia provides the camp fire smoke and the virginia provides the sweetness. I don’t like a lot of perique or orientals in my English blends, so this blend is right for me. If you want more levels of complexity go buy a Peace or Ouellette blend.

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
Increased Quantities
Hats off to C&D for upping the production quantities for this small batch so more people get a chance to buy, thanks guys!

Grand Croupier - Double Down
The price is right.
This blend will not blow you away. It will not knock your socks off. But it should definitely make you wonder how they made such a descent tasting tobacco for $10.50 for half a pound just by sweeping up bits and pieces from other blends. I’d can’t really tell you what it taste like because it changes almost with each pull of the pipe. But it does taste like burley and Virginia, as advertised. Taste is similar to an OTC burley blend but you can tell the leaf is higher quality. I already have another half pound in the cart. If you don’t mind a meat and potatoes burley, you cannot go wrong with this price point.

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired 1.75oz
Good but heavy and earthy
I liked this blend after a good hour of drying out a couple flakes. Not overly complex but there are some nuances of dark fruit with a touch of tang and of course the deep earthy smoke. As advertised it is strong in the flavour dept. and for me not an all day smoke. I would keep some on hand but it’s not something I’m going to stock pile. Definitely worth a try though an burns clean to a white ash.

Cornell & Diehl - Bijou 2oz
Oriental Virginia Supreme
Old aged red belts and Katerini? Sing me up. The Katerini is upfront at first but then takes a back seat to the old belt reds and sings in the background with curry and coconut. Get it while it lasts people, this is destined for nostalgia.

Cornell & Diehl - Pegasus 2oz
Great burley
I like Haunted Bookshelf but the Perique is a tad to Spicy for me. Pegasus is like Haunted book shelf lite substituting perique for cavendish to round it out and maintain the focus on the nutty earthy burley. Burns to a white ash and is well behaved. Love it!

Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
Worth the money, but give it some time.
When I first blazed up a bowl, I wasn’t impressed. But hey, for the price it was worth a shot. Canned it and tossed it in the cellar. Much better with some age as is typical with Virginia’s. I am now warming up to this blend and would recommend this. I think with another few more months this is going to be even better. I wish there was more burley in this blend or a touch of cavern dish to give it a bit more body, but for what it is and the price it’s a keeper, just put some age on it. It’s like the cheaper man’s Pegasus.

Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Black Locust 2oz
There must be a better way?
Surly there is a better way to make sure as many customers as possible get a fair crack at the product? Does smoking pipes release this world wide at one time or in time zones? Entire website crashes all day on and off. There has got to be a better way to do this, no?

Cornell & Diehl - Redburn 2oz
Beautiful Burley Cake
This was my first Burley and wow I’m a believer. Burns and pacts fantastic. It has some punch and to me is stronger than most blends but great taste of rum, molasses, brown sugar and smoke from the Kentucky. It’s actually similar to a navy flake but with a bit more kick. I have already ordered more. Lots of really good tobacco out there and this to me is one of them.

Mac Baren - Mixture Scottish Blend 3.5oz
Too subtle for me
I can see why people like this. It has a lot of really good flavours, like dry fruit, nuts, plum and an earthy taste that neither one dominates. For me it’s not an aromatic but more of a natural smoke that is sweet. It also bit me too, if not smoked carefully. It also left an ashy tobacco taste in my mouth after. I will cellar the tin and check it next year but won’t be buying anymore.

Kramer's - Father Dempsey
$2.94 an ounce? WOW!
Classic and traditional English blend with plenty of oak, leather, spice and camo fire. One of the best bang for your buck English blends. Bulk tobaccos like this made me begin to stear away from paying for tins and marketing. Absolutely great value for your hard earned dollars.

Sutliff - Creme Brulee
Sticky pudding
This stuff is wet and sticky. Give a bit to dry, it will light right out of the bag but for me had trouble staying lit. For me the taste up front is like vanilla icing, followed by the creamy custard/honey taste. I liked it and will be buying it again. Will it knock your socks off? No. Is it Autumn Evening? No. Is it a little messy and will dirty up your pipe? Yep. But hey, it’s $15 for half a pound. And for that I can work with the tobacco a little bit and spent the extra time cleaning the pipe.

Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening
Pretty darn good
Why are turds that don’t like aromatics trying this then giving it a 1 star and complaining it has a topping on it? I just bought this in bulk after my first tin. If you don’t like adulterated tobacco, don’t buy this. I’m actually not a big fan of the aromatics, but this honestly is just so well balanced and rich, sweet at first and throughout but gets heavier and richer towards the bottom tasting of dark fruits and raisins. Like I said I don’t have a lot of aromatics in the collection but this one is so well done, the tobacco and maple sugar and blended seamlessly.

McConnell - Pure Virginia 50g
Keep it for blending
Seems to be a nice cut of Virginia, but I would not smoke this on its own. I disagree with the description that it can be smoked on its own. A bag of leaves can be smoked on its own too, doesn’t mean you should. I would only recommend this for blending, period.

Half and Half - Half and Half 1.5oz
Straight forward classic
Beautiful, easy going tobacco. Love the cut, it packs and burns with ease. It’s a mild smoke with little complexity that you can smoke all day or until the cows come home. A light creamy smoke that reminds you, life doesn’t have to be that complicated. While I may not smoke this regularly, I always make sure I have some on hand. And for under 4 bills on sale, what really are some people expecting?

Samuel Gawith - Navy Flake 50g
Solid Navy Flake
Top 10 purchased tobacco but under 4 rating? Lesson here, it sells because it’s good. Not really complex nor is the Lat upfront. The blend is pretty straight forward, Latakia and Virginia with a splash of rum but it tastes rich, full and is completely satisfying. There is no wow factor here. It just does what you want it to. Smokey, campfire, earthy, dark chocolate. All kind of subtle but rich and full.

Orlik - Golden Sliced 100g
Summer time sweetheart
Nice light smoke with citrus, lemons, straw, and a lingering sweetness on the lips. Burns nice too. My summer go to for sure.

Mac Baren - 7 Seas Black 3.5oz
What you see is what you get
Classic easy going mild Mac Baren armomatic. Dark fruits and cream combine for a nice mild smoke with no tongue bite. Life doesn’t always have to be complex, this tobacco reminds you to sit back and smell the roses.

Hearth & Home - Black House 1.75oz
Holy Hanna!
Heavy, pungent, earthy, smoky manure. This is a heavy rich smoke that has become my number one English blend. But I am new to Russ’s blends and have more of his tobaccos on order. Aside from being rush and full it also has a spicy kick that can sometimes cause tongue bite if you get over zealous and puff to fast. Not for the new piper but old cats rejoice!

Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Steady Eddie
Classic, well rounded and balanced English blend. No tongue bite but plenty of full rich campfire goodness! A good introduction to an English blend in my opinion and will be buying more.
