ity flakes and VA/Pers, I even like Burley blends sometimes, but sometimes...sometimes I like an aromatic too. Captain Black is great for this. The Original (White) is quite good, but Royal just steps up the sweetness to where I like it. It's ultra-mild, a fine ribbon easy for packing and lighting, burns away to very little ash at a moderate rate. It has a discernible topping that isn't quite vanilla, but certainly is generically sweet (I assume a glycerol humectant?) but it doesn't seem too artificial or ruin the natural flavors of the tobacco. It is all Cavendish so the sweetness could be a result of the process too. I don't know what they use, but I like it. It makes for an easy anytime smoke that's good all year round. It's also great for beginners until they get a feel for what they can tolerate. If you can't smoke CBR, you need a different hobby. If you just can't bring yourself to try Captain Black, just go ahead and get Lane Limited 1-Q. I'm pretty sure they are one-in-the-same. Why 1-Q can be rated so highly and Royal be often overlooked because it's Captain Black is beyond my comprehension. Read Less

This is my favorite aromatic tobacco. The topping is silky vanilla. And I can still taste the virginia. Nice cool burn. A very nice balanced blend.

I love smoking this early in the morning with a cup of coffee. Nice subtle vanilla flavor that isn't too strong. The Cavendish is a delight to smoke. Not too moist and stays lit consistently. Wonderful blend to smoke all day.

There’s a reason this sells so well and has been around so long. And it is not the price. It is just plain good. Don’t fall victim to the tobacco snob trap and assume this this not worth your time because it is a drug store blend.

now after passing my 30th I start smoking as a hobby, maybe four to six times per month. make me relax, vanilla room note, reduce my wife complain about smoking on apartment :) but some cigarettes smoker prefer gold version, because has more tobacco note rather than black Cavendish taste. its totally base on how use and get joy as a routine, for some people take time to adjust it. but I am a person can get joy from routine habit. like I don't like change my coffee from lavazza super crema... even after I moved to Canada from Chicago. I try to keep my stuff same. even up here everything much more expensive than us. but I try to pay extra to keep myself happy ;)

ough and sampled each Captain Black tobacco recently I found this one to lack much redeeming quality for a second buy. While not revolting or nauseating, it is certainly just a basic flavor that doesn’t do much for me in terms of memorability or eliciting desire for more. I smoked this sample pouch for a week and found it to be a rather boring affair. In fact, on one bowl I thought to myself it felt as though I were ‘going through the motions’ as I smoked the pipe; something that should never occur for a truly contemplative, restful, and enjoyable pipe smoking experience. Rather, a good bowl should leave the smoker feeling at ease, and long for more time to commune with his favorite blend. This one, did no such things. At least it did not have the sickly sweet taste of Captain Black Cherry, though. Still, it was just a disappointment, for what should be the Captain’s best. Read Less

After some years, I have smoked CB again. It is quite good, don't bite, ease to light and to smoke. The only negative side is, for me, it don't have a strong flavor. It was nice go back to oldies.
