Can't nail this one down

Product: Captain Earle's Mystic Blend 2oz
One of the draws to pipe smoking for me is the variety. When I saw the reviews for Mystic Blend, two things caught my attention. 1) it is never the same smoke twice. 2) it is great every time. So far, I can agree with those. Granted, I have not fin... Read More
ished the tin, but I am working my way slowly through it. It is my hope that savoring it will produce a ton of Unicorn farts, and I will be the happier for it. This blend has a ton of different tobaccos, and I surmise that part of the experience is due to the abundance of disparate types of tobacco. Still, I have also had kitchen-sink mixtures that didn't hold up well too. Mystic Blend seems to deliver consistently. Read Less

This is a fun blend. Not only do you get the joy of working with the crumble cake, but the tobaccos are very intriguing. Each time I smoke it, I get a slightly different experience. It's always rich and flavorful, but different flavors seem to come t... Read More

Mystical Experience

So I always try and order something I've never tried before and this was one of those tins. The room note on this is very nice, and it smokes incredibly cool. I'm surprised by how the flavor of this changes from pipe to pipe. Sometimes the Latakia is... Read More
very pronounced and the spic is heavy while the Virginia is in the background and subtle. Then other times it's the Perique that is taking center stage. I've not smoked anything quite like this. So far it's been very enjoyable. Read Less
A Trip to the Seaport

Product: Captain Earle's Mystic Blend 2oz
When I was young and lived in Connecticut my family visited Mystic Seaport in Mystic CT on the Mystic River frequently. We even had a family membership and I attended some of the summer programs. It’s hard to describe if you haven’t been there but th... Read More
ey support and maintain old wooden sailing ships and buildings and the Seaport is meant to evoke a bygone era where whaling and the sea was the lifeblood of the area. There are fragrances of tar on the cobblestone streets and old sail canvas and wooden boat hulls maintained with traditional methods. Blacksmith and wood working buildings. Maybe it’s changed since I was last there but those are my memories of a good time in my life. I saw this tobacco blend here in the shop and accepted that I was a sucker for the name and the label artwork and ordered it anyway. I’ll be damned if it doesn’t do a great job of recreating the ambiance of the Seaport in a pipe tobacco! I don’t know how they did it, probably just the name and the artwork, but it’s a great smoke in any event. Stays lit and burns slowly, smooth with little to no tongue bite. 5 stars for me easily. Fascinatingly Complex and Smooth

Product: Captain Earle's Mystic Blend 2oz
This is the finest English I’ve ever smoked. It’s not a Lat bomb, for which I’m most grateful. It comes presented in a plug, but is easily broken apart by hand. It requires very little dry time once rubbed out to your desired consistency. I’d say 15-... Read More
20 minutes. It tastes like everything you’d want out of a mild/medium English. It’s smoky, sweet, smooth, and complex, with delightful notes of clove or incense like flavors from the orientals, and a solid backbone of smoky sweet goodness between the lat and Virginia’s.
I smoked this out of a pipe that previously smoked wet and hot, and this blend smoked absolutely flawlessly. It packs like a dream, and once lit it just goes. I always thought that people who said “one relight per bowl” were full of it, but with this blend it’s true. I smoked 2 bowls immediately back to back, out of a “problem child” pipe, and there was zero gurgle, no excess heat, and I had literally 1 relight each time to get it down to an empty bowl of ash.
This is truly a sublime English. I can’t recommend it enough. What a joy to smoke, I just spent 2.5 hours out in the cosmos. 10 out of a possible 5 stars. Read Less

In all sincerity, if you are looking for a straightforward mellow English Blend that you can smoke all day long, this is it. The tin note reflects a bygone era true to its namesake. I bought this blend because I use to live on the Mystic River starin... Read More
g at the Mystic Seaport, and for some reason this blend magically transports me back SouthEastern CT. The Latakia/Orientals are right up front but we’ll rounded out by the Virginias.....then right in the back of your taste buds you get a definite tang of the Perique. This is the fastest I have ever finished a tin. Just ordered 3 more tins. Read Less
What is this voodoo magic?

Product: Captain Earle's Mystic Blend 2oz
Where to start? This is a very intriguing smoke to say the least. It's different every time I light up a bowl. This is voodoo magic that Captain Earle brought back from somewhere during his travels. As the description states this has been touched by ... Read More
a mystic, a wicked good one at that! It's a rich medium bodied smoke with hints of floral and BBQ at times. At other times it's grandpa's pipe. It's smokey sweet in flavor, smokes cool and slow and has a creamy mouth feel like velvet on the tongue. Never been bitten, never had to relight, although it does need a few minutes of drying time as it came quite moist out of the tin. I don't know what all types of tobacco were used in this blend, but I like it! Read Less

I really enjoy this blend. I think I like a the Nightwatch blend a bit more, but Mystic is a nice smooth smoke. My first bowl right off the cake gave me a bit of a bite but not too bad. All other subsequent smokes I've let it dry out a bit before pac... Read More

arle blends, soon. Mystic is sort of a kitchen sink (nine?) blend but whoever the master blender is, they really know how to balance out this circus one act at a time. Probably the most curious aspect of Mystic for me was that they managed to have all of those tobaccos present and yet keep them separate. What I mean is that each component came through like an ever changing procession of goodness rather than mingling together as you would expect. Part of the allure is seeing what flavor would come with each puff. Even the retro-hale was different each time. Then, just as you're getting use to this (and kind of diggin' it), they all meld into a bold English taste towards the end. It's like a fireworks show made up of individual bursts one at a time, maybe two at a time, then followed by one big finale! I liked this a lot. I wont bore you with the mechanics, just know that it's nothing to worry about. This is quality leaf, blended with style, producing a very unique and enjoyable blend. Read Less
