A pure black Cavendish flavored with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, Suttlif's Black Spice provides a cool, easy smoke with a room-note and flavor that's a bit off the beaten path from the usual fruit-centric aromas, but every bit as pleasing.
Much like all other Black Cavendish, B21 is smooth and has the inherent naturally sugary sweetness. Unlike other BCs however, it does not share the predominately topped vanilla and/or fruit aspect. This departure is characterized by cinnamon, allspic... Read Moree and nutmeg, on a sweet base of smooth, black and cool burning leaf. While this isn't a great aromatic in the same vein as 'The Vanilla Cream' by GL Pease, it's a good Black Cavendish that lends itself to those of us that like smoking it by itself for the characteristics BC offers, and we want an alternative B.C. to use in a mixture. The spice aspect provides for new realms on a mixture that requires a B.C. to unite other leaf and smooth rough edges, adding warm spice, rather than vanilla or fruit notes, thereby expanding our options. I get no vanilla and no fruit in this... simply cinnamon at the start and warm nutmeg and allspice thereafter. Room note is sweet and spice-laden. I believe Stokkebeys B.C. is a little better quality, though it's vanilla topped... so tired of vanilla and fruit B.C.. Try mixing this with PS Dark Fired... sweet/savoury balanced, smoky, spice-laden, smooth and has a nic hit. Bump up the complexity by further adding a large dose of Red VA. B21 has such a great Autumnal profile. Read Less
In my quest for a tasty Aromatic, I have been looking forward to trying this. The positive reviews had me put this on my last order. Bag note is great, sweet. My first flavor was a hint of vanilla, very subtle. The smoke is sweet, room note is great.... Read More I could taste a spiciness similar to Latakia, but different, ah spicy, almost a ginger flavor. As I smoked past half the bowl, I had a subtle flavor of cinnamon, more vanilla. The spiciness lingered on my palette, this is a pleasurable smoke indeed. Sip it slowly for the best flavor. I had no hint of chemical flavor or aftertaste. Clean and enjoyable. This is a more subdued blend than Nightcap, but for me, equally enjoyable. This is a winner!
It has been over a half hour since I smoked this blend. I can still taste the spiciness on my palette, nice. Read Less
First off, I like all-cavendish tobaccos, so please keep that in mind when you read my comments. This is my #1 favorite all-cavendish tobacco - with Black Vanilla and Captain Black dark coming in second and third.
This smokes quite well overall, al... Read Morethough it can be a bit moist right out of the bag. I tend to allow it to dry a bit before enjoying and that helps with both flavor and relaxation. It dries faster than Captain Black, and smokes well even when quite dry. Also, it will stay lit on the charring light for me almost every time, and not require a lot of work to keep it lit.
I have to really push this to get it to bite, unless it is too moist, but even then it takes some effort. The flavor is very nice, not at all artificial like Captain Black can sometimes be, and is richer and more complex that many other all-black cavendish tobaccos. The room note is amazing too, you're highly unlikely to hear a complain out of even the most hard-core anti-smoker with this.
This is currently my everyday tobacco choice, and I've found that each order gets larger and larger in weight. Read Less
I don’t get the promised spice notes, but I do get a soft vanilla or maybe even superbly hidden cherry, with distant spice of some sort. It’s a bit moist but not damp or wet. The aroma is lovely, the taste is nice, the bite is non existent. This is a... Read More nice old reliable standby Black cavendish. While fine by itself, I’ve successfully blended it with other components to form some really nice and satisfying aromatics (straight red/gold Virginias, or a dash of Perique or Burly). I suspect it would make an interesting condiment added to a crossover English blend, but it’s sweet softness night take away from the attempt if not sparing enough.
EDIT: upon further smoking, I there is definitely some cherry present which I usually don’t like. This is superbly mild and I have to be in the mood for it specifically, and it then fits the bill perfectly! Adding a star. Read Less
I lean heavily toward English Blends, but at the end of the evening I want something that smells nice. Black Spice feels that niche nicely. Black Cavendish is my favorite in that regard.
