Something Special
January 14, 2018
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
When I first opened the bag of 4oz of Mountain Camp, I was immediately captivated by the strong aroma of Latakia. Good start. I packed a large bowl into my Luca Vanetti and after one light and a few puffs, I knew I’d found something quite special. ... Read More
I’ve smoked all 4oz of my initial purchase of this magnificent blend and I regret not buying 16oz. This is a wonderfully strong blend. Amazing flavor led by the Latakia and evenly complimented by the orientals, Virginia, perique and burley. Nice cool smoke with no relight. The most important thing, to me anyway, is that this blend is very, very close to Nightcap but I’m going to say that Mountain Camp is even better. Perhaps it’s the inclusion of the burley but whatever it is, I can see how this blend will stay strong in my top 10 rotation for quite sometime. Read Less
Bulk vs Tinned
October 19, 2017
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
I am usually kind of skiddish about bulk tobacco instead of tinned. Despite the obvious advantage of price, bulk i have found is often plauged by dryness and lower quality with things like stems and less uniform cut. In this case I took a gamble and ... Read More
got a whole pound of Mountain Camp since I liked the tinned offering so much. The gamble paid off, in a blind test I would not be able to tell the difference between the bulk and a fresh tin. I will definetly be ordering Mountain Camp in bulk from now on. Read Less

r light is typical rich flavor of a nice English sweet subtle cinnamon notes with some almond and floral, but suddenly it changes into deep, rich sweet Smokey nutty and some spice. Toward past half to last quarter it’s very rich very slow puffing from there on out. Flavors of wet rocks fresh forest air, peat and a hint of sweet grass. Every so often fresh baked gingerbread notes very light. This blend Relaxes you. Medium to strong nicotine hit Needs an occasional relight. Lightly tamp and flutter flame over top of char as the taste changes if it gets to hot. Good paired with a cup of medium roast coffee black or with some cream. Best English I’ve had in a long time. I haven’t smoked this since 2015. I liked it then. I recently ordered some more and it was astringent, unusual and tasted like Copenhagen at the end of the bowl. I tried it in several pipes I use to smoke Latakia heavy mixtures in. This is not th... Read More

Silky, Smooth, Campfire, Incense, Musty and Bready Sweet with Buttery Eastern Spices
February 03, 2020
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
I love Burley with Latakia, it adds a mouth-filling creaminess which compliments the Latakia very well. Musty sweet Latakia provides a rich Campfire smokiness, the Orientals lend a buttery spiced like incense, the VA adds a bit of grassy sweetness, t... Read More
he Perique is very slight and tangy. It’s not a powerhouse in strength, but is very sating. Far better, more complex and stronger than Star of the East. This has a lot of Latakia, and for those that like Pirate Kake, this is a nice rotation. Unlike Pirate Kake, it’s not as smooth of flavor - the components add some sharpness, whereas PK is soft and smooth. Look at it this way; MC is a fresh can of Coke, whereas PK is an opened can of Coke that’s been sitting out all day. Medium body, flavor and nicotine. Read Less

Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp 2oz
Mountain Camp is very Latakia-forward but not at all overwhelming. The spiciness of the Perique is barely discernible, but there’s enough to create an interesting nuance. I typically smoke American burley blends in lieu of English blends, but Mountai... Read More
n Camp is my favorite English and one of my new favorite blends out of all families of tobacco, likely because of the inclusion of plenty of burley! It’s complex but very smooth and silky, almost like smoking a straight black cavendish. The room note is the smell of a campfire, so much so that you can almost hear the skillet full of bacon or trout sizzling. A new favorite. Read Less
Strong tobacco
November 27, 2018
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
A very strong tobacco and a nicotine bomb ... not to smoke for every day. A real old fashion English blend. Nice tobacco with a nice gray white ash at the end.
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
Strong, definitely something I'd puff on while working outdoors. Not everyday, but once in a while. It reminds me of a stronger Old Professor with a different kind of nice and nasty aroma and flavor.

While my Dad did not often smoke a pipe, and when he did it was a drugstore blend, this blend took me right back to my childhood, camping in the Allegheny or Adirondack mountains. i couldn't ask for a better smoke.
Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
Decent flavor. Not much of a room note. Fairly mild English. I like that it has very little bite
Unique! A Must Try

Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
As a big fan of Bayou Night, I had to try this tweak of a blend. There's enough Perique for an interesting spicy zing. The Latakia is dominant, but not obliterating. If Nightcap is a Bell Pepper, Mountain Camp is a Green Chili. Highy recommended!... Read More

mason jar.
I tried the blend again just yesterday, and not much has changed. It all seems so one-dimensional to me. It's not too strong...nicotine is a constant in my life, and I enjoy the stronger blends like Gaslight, Peterson Irish Flake, and Five Brothers, but Mountain Camp just doesn't do anything for me. In fact, I find myself anticipating the end of the bowl so I can move on to something else.
I re-read all of the reviews. There is one which describes the blend as "hitting you all at once"...and maybe that's what is happening with me. I just can't taste anything but smoke. It's not enjoyable to me at all. I have...what I think to be...an appreciation for loads of different blends. I adore EMP and Chelsea Morning. I love MM965 and Quiet Nights. Even the decidedly one-dimensional profile of Five Brothers is tasty to me, but this blend just tastes like a campfire...and not in a good way.
This blend has taught me a valuable lesson: as in all things - to each his own. I don't think I have a particularly good palette - neither strong nor delicate...so, I'm not saying that at all. Our palettes are all different and we like different things for reasons we cannot quantify - it's just the way it is. Gaslight's tin note smells like a dumpster to me, and I must confess that upon opening the tin, I thought I had made a terrible mistake. However, from charring light to finish, I absolutely LOVED the taste and aroma of that wonderful plug!
Coke or Pepsi, Scotch, Canadian whisky, or Bourbon - I had to TRY all these things to know WHAT I like...and there is no absolute rule to any of it. Some things, I like - some, I don't...and there is often a very fine line between the two.
I love Hefeweizens and Stouts as a rule...cannot stand IPAs...EXCEPT I know of two Hefeweizens that taste rotten to me, there is at least one Stout out there that tastes like dirty feet, and there are two IPAs that I absolutely love!
Mountain Camp - a full English in the Scottish vein - is a blend that I should love...but I don't. It opened my eyes to what I might be missing by judging other tobaccos prior to trying them.
The great thing about this particular blend is that it is available in bulk. Try a bit - you may like it! Read Less

Product: Cornell & Diehl Mountain Camp Bulk
Currently smoking a large bowl in an old Chacom pot with a strong English tea - it’s delicious!!! Yes, it has a lot of components but they blend so well together - the Latakia is forward, but definitely not a ‘bomb’ - I was worried about the perique ... Read More
but it’s very slight here - the burley and oriental leaf just round out the blend - in fact ‘roundness’ is the adjective that keeps coming to me. It’s a little above average in strength I would say, but less so than a strong Balkan blend - mildly Smokey and nutty like cashew butter. Smokes cool and burns evenly right out of the bag - just a little nic hit by the end of the bowl, but not too bad - certainly nothing like Nightcap to me. I’ll probably be adding it too my reorder list. Read Less
