A smooth blend of Virginia, Turkish, Latakia, and black Cavendish, C&D's Cordial boasts a classical English structure, subtly augmented in sweetness and room note by the presence of the dark aromatic mainstay.
While my palate is still very much in training, this is without a doubt my absolute favorite tobacco. Too bad I only ordered a 2oz. sample. Goes great in my Peterson System pipe with a giant cup of black coffee!
I have tried blends like this before and I do like the blend of Latikia and Cavendish. Stratforshire and English Oriental are two that I favor. Cordial is a nice medley of flavors, it's sweet and spicy. The flavors of the various tobaccos come to t... Read Morehe fore and are replaced by the next tobacco flavor. This was the blend that got me interested in English blends. It has plenty of that lot of Kia and Oriental spice to it, but also quite a bit of sweetness underneath all of that. What is more I've gotten plenty of positive comments on the room note! T... Read Moreakes just a little bit more effort to get lit than I would like, but once it's going, it's going! Smoke school, and I can't believe that something this good is in bulk! Read Less
In Australia Cordial is a sweet syrup that you mix with water or soda water to make a soft drink. When I opened the package, a sweet smell immediately came into the nose. The tobacco was reasonably wet, but could be smoked immediately. Once fired the... Read More tobacco, you experience an explosion of flavors. The sweetness is not exaggerated. The black Cavendish is clearly present and goes well with the Latakia and virginias in harmony. Cordial comes very close to Dunhill's Apretif. If you like smooking the slightly sweeter tobaccos, Cordial is definitely worth it to smoke. I am more of a Latakia-Perique smoker, but this blend is still good for 3+ stars. A tobacco to enjoy especially in the evening when the day comes to an end ... Read Less
Mmmm-Cordial--I must admit the name did put me off for some time. Here in Australia, cordial is a sugary, sweet syrup that you mix with water or sodawater to make a soft drink. Anyway, I'm glad I finally tried this easy-smoking blend. It's hard not t... Read Moreo compare this one to some of the other C&D more "English" style bulk blends available. This one is most definitely for me a bit lighter, and doen't have the Oriental or Turkish "tang' of say, Stratfordshire or Tuggle Hall. The Latakia is a bit more restrained here, and there is a touch more sweetness from the BC, but what makes me smile is the overall smoothness of this one. This is a wonderful blend in the morning with a cup of coffee--beats the heck out of EMP, in my opinion. The Virginia is very smooth and cool, and the Latakia just sings enough in the background to harmonize perfectly. I do love the solidity of some of the others--Stratfordshire, Tuggle Hall, London Squire, Byzantium, and my favorite, Red Odessa, but I think Cordial will hold a place when I just want a smooth, lighter blend, but with a nice English/Scottish character, and relatively little Nic hit as compared to some of the others---the absence of Burley, perhaps. Three and one-half stars for me. Read Less
I can find in this blend very similar than Aperitif of Dunhill. Actually with some differences but with the same essence. Fresh, easy smoke, easy pack, no bite and very good flavor. I found this blend to be a nice "crossover" between aromatic and English, not too bitey and great flavor. It is quite dry, smokes easily, smells wonderful, and I find myself naturally reaching for it now, which means I'll buy more!
I wanted to like this blend a lot. Perhaps I was influenced by the advert that it is a replacement for Dunhill's Aperitif, which I have enjoyed in their various iterations (some more than others, but overall I have enjoyed them). I tried a variety ... Read Moreof pipes with different bowls of different sizes and shape. The quality of the leaf is very good, with the Virginias and Cavendish-processed leafs providing a firm foundation for a lighter touch in Latakia and Turkish leaf, which results in a medium body blend that is unobstrusive. I just finished the tin, and try hard as I may, I could not coax out the complexity of flavors that some spoke of on the TobaccoReviews site. It smokes more spicy than sweet, which is the Turkish coming through over the Latakia. I detect slight vanilla undertones (perhaps the Cavendish) about a third of the way through the bowl, and I am not sure it plays well with the other tobaccos. Overall - given the plethora of tobaccos available today, I cannot recommend this blend. It lacks the depth and complexity of other blends with similar components. Two stars for the quality of the components and the taste of the Latakia and Turkish. Read Less
