is higher. The bag note (I got 16oz.) Is of sweet bread and chocolate with a ghost of pepper left in the nose. In the bowl this blend is amazing. Tangy, bready, red Virginia and stoved red Virginia Cavendish really bring on a natural sweetness and then the perique slaps you in the face like the beautiful mistress that she is and I love it. Spice, red pepper powerhouse dancing on my tongue; the sweet and spicy mingling and washing over my palate leaving me like a child who just had their favorite candy bar. Lady nicotine is ever present and if your puff carelessly she will let you know she is not happy.
In all seriousness, if you are looking for an Outstanding VaPer with a high dose of Perique, this is topnotch. Highly recommend getting a few tins or a bag as this can only get better with age. Read Less

After reading the product description and the customer reviews, I kind of shied away from this blend. Yes, it's strong (it gives me the hiccups) but after tasting it, I ordered a pound. The wonderful flavor is worth getting the hiccups.

I absolutely love this, no top dressing detected, VaPer and nothing else, sip it slowly from a small to medium bowl, you should be able to handle it, maybe a little dizzy at the end....but I guess that's what you are after when you order this....mighty fine mixture, I don't think for blending...fine just as it is....not for the faint of heart.

ge while I smoke the other. Yes, I liked it that much. Here's the thing though, I don't think it'll knock you down with Perique like others claim. You can smell the Perique right away, and I've heard the smell described as “something between dry dog food and fertilizer”, so yes, it's a large amount. But in smoking this, I don't feel a strong, over-powering tobacco kick like many people describe. This is a pleasantly balanced blend I could smoke all day. I attribute this to the inclusion of Cavendish. Somehow the Virginia Cavendish mellows out the Perique making it seem like a much smaller percentage. What is not missing is the flavor from the Perique which has all the spicy, earthy, sour notes of fermentation that gives Virginia Perique blends their special character. It has this in abundance. So, what about the Virginias? The other 50% is, of course, a blend of Red Virginia and Virginia Cavendish. This is the sweet side of the blend carrying a tangy citrus tartness with hints of red wine or Sangria that is heavenly. It may smell like compost, but the flavor couldn't be more different. When I bought the tin, it was a tad moist, but the large bag of Exclusive was just right. I love the ribbons of this blend. There's a certain oiliness to them? It's like running your fingers through freshly conditioned hair. It has a lambskin softness and sheen-like quality almost making it cool to the touch. The mechanics are great. I mean, it's a ribbon cut so, packing and lighting don't get much easier. After a few bowls I figured out the right amount of tamping to keep it going without re-lights. It's such a sleeper blend. If you enjoy other high-quality VA/Pers, this will still WOW you. Unlike some Virginia Perique blends where there's so little Perique it sparks debate about whether there's any in there at all, there is no room for doubt with Exclusive. It's in there, but don't shy away from its nicotine level, you may not even notice it. Enjoy. Read Less

Not nearly as strong as it purports to be. Some people might disagree, but you can smoke it every day. And if it scares you, buy any other blending component and bring it down a bit with it.

off...maybe because the Virginia was so far in the back seat to the Perique that it lacked balance for me. Regardless I didn't like it, so I just stuffed the whole pound in a couple of Mason jars and set it back. That was April 2015. Last night I was going through all my jars of tobacco and stumbled across those 2 jars of Exclusive. 1 is a quart stuffed full and the remainder went into a pint so I twisted off that pint jar lid and was smacked in the face with an aroma that was indescribable. I just had to try some so I got one of my old trusty MM cobs and filled it about half way and gave it what for. The title of this review came from my impression as I dipped away at this bowl. It's still a strong blend but it's so much more balanced than what I remember it. I finished that half bowl and immediately had another...I'm so glad I have that pound of tobacco now! Time heals all wounds as they say and nearly 6 years of aging was the catalyst for a very pleasant metamorphosis. Read Less

This is a wonderfully “earthy” blend. Not one I’d smoke every day, but nice to have when the mood strikes. Might try a mixture of this and a little Tabac Manil La Brumeuse to see how well they complement each other.

y stomach. I think it is stronger than the 4* given in the description but it's power kind of sneaks up on you when you don't expect it. Half way through a second bowl in a medium-sized pipe and my head was reeling and stomach was doing flip-flops. This is a good, strong VaPer blend. It goes great with a good cup of coffee. Considering the amount of Perique in it, it is surprisingly balanced. A good, solid occasional smoke.

complexity here as the red virginia only seems to support and round out the perique. As for the cavendish, I didn't get much of that throughout the bowl. The cavendish seems to only sweeten and cool the virginia. So you have a pronounced perique, supported by red virginia, that is in turn supported by some burley based cavendish. Again, it's not too complicated. But if you are looking for a heavy hit of perique, it fits the bill. It is spicy as you would expect (especially on the retrohale). This is a medium to strong blend, so I prefer to smoke in a smaller sized chamber and go slow as to not get overpowered. Your preference may vary according to your nicotine tolerance. This would be a good blend for cigarette smokers looking for a good pipe blend to try. The ribbon cut is typical of a C&D ribbon cut in that the ribbons aren't very uniform or very long. That seems to be a purely cosmetic thing as it doesn't seem to affect the way it burns too much compared to prettier presentations of other blenders. I ordered a couple of ounces of this in bulk and let it cellar for over a year, and it did mellow nicely a little bit. I would expect that it will continue to do so over time and will get better with age as the perique mellows and the virginia ferments some. ld be sipped maybe like good Bourbon, take it easy and enjoy it as it could overwhelm if not treated with respect. Its a nicely balanced blend that’s sometimes sweet, sometimes spicy but always flavorful and strong enough to satisfy a craving for nicotine and rich smoke. I’m not a VaPer fan of the first magnitude but I’ve tried more of this combination lately and I sorta like it. The tin note is predominately Perique. It loads, packs and lights easily and stays lit if you want to keep it going continuously. My first try was in a Peterson 1/4 bent bell with the model number worn away from handling but its a trusted and well known pipe in my rotation. It’s a strong but pleasant smoke if you take your time and enjoy the full, rich flavor. No bite or harshness of any sort just a good robust flavor leaning heavily on Perique. Not an all day smoke but maybe best after dinner when you have an hour to contemplate your day. I’ll give it high marks as a daring and masterful blend that deserves trying out. I'll admit, at least to me, that the aroma out of the bag is not real pleasant, very barnyard-esque, but that is what quality aged tobacco smells like so it is a good thing in a way. I don't detect much in the way of sweetness like the description says, flavors on this one are very earthy with bready notes so if you have a sweet tooth this isn't likely to satisfy it. It came at the perfect moisture content for packing and lighting and burns to a grey ash very well. I definitely recommend trying this if you enjoy perique and spicy smokes. Read Less
