I love a good English blend and not a big fan of aromatics. The blend of tobaccos caught my eye because it is very similar to Sam's blend (my absolute favorite). The question, is it an English or aromatic, made me think, well let's find out. This is ... Read More
probably the most incredible tobacco I've ever smoked. When I opened the tin it was a bit moist but not wet, very pleasant sent. 1 char light, and the 2nd light it burned to white ash. Creamy and smooth with a little spicy tickle to my tongue. Outstanding. As far as the question, I'll get back to you many years from now. Read Less
More Aro than English

This is more an aromatic than an English blend, at least the tin I received is any way. The tin and room note is that of a smokey buttered rum with a hint of caramel cream. Not bad at all, just not what I was expecting based on the reviews. The toppi... Read More
ng/casing works well with the tobaccos. It's sweet, smokey, a little briney and delicious as hell. The more I smoke it, the more I like it! Read Less

Very nice tin note. Moist but not overly so. After the charring light smokes smooth and creamy without any bite. It’s very mild and the rum punch is barely noticeable but adds a nice sweetness. All in all a very pleasant smoke and could be an all day... Read More

Must have gotten a bad batch in 2017. I wrote a bad review then and regret it. A blender can have a bad day just like the rest of us. After shelving a tin for 2 years I gave it a whirl again, in an unsmoked pipe. Wow! Love it. "Stoved" 4 oz... Read More

I have been smoking a pipe for a year now. But just as any hobby I embark upon I go well over the top; for example I did not train to run a marathon, I trained to run a 100 mile ultramarathon.
With that said, I have been sampling as many different ... Read More
types of pipe tobacco as humanly possible, searching for that PERFECT everyday smoke that I can sink my claws into. I dont know if THIS is THAT pipe tobacco, but it is certainly in the lead right now. The tin note is delicious, packs easy, burns well, tastes sweet but not cloyingly sweet; smell is pleasant and inviting. honestly I found myself packing 3 bowls in a row while on a 2.5 hour long conference call for work. C&D I have yet to try anything you have blended that gave me pause. great stuff!! Read Less
Very nice. Even better than expected.

Kept this cellared for 2 years. What a nice surprise. Put it out for a couple hours before smoking.

I absolutely love this blend! It breaks "traditional" Latakia and Perique mindsets with an introduction into a new world of flavor!
Love the name

Not great.flavor is lacking, strength is almost non existent and leaves a bad aftertaste, somewhat like irish blessing in overall lack of god knows whats missing here

By itself, this is one of the most boring tobaccos I have tried. It having Latakia and Perique, I was expecting a little bit more of a kick, but you only get a mild flavor one in a while. Otherwise, I got close to no taste out of this. I ended up mix... Read More

A good Cavendish based blend
August 27, 2018
Product: Cornell & Diehl Cross-Eyed Cricket 2oz
For those wishing step up from a straight cavendish, this is a good start. Great tin aroma (plum like), room note is pleasurable. Tin was moist, but if packed loosely in the bowl is managablewith a slow steady draw. Just a slight hint or Latakia a... Read More

Cricket has long been one of my preferred smokes. In the grand scheme of pipe tobaccos I am a neonate, having tried very few. But Cricket has always had a good robust taste, with a pleasurable note. As a new piper I found it at times hard to keep lit... Read More

I thought the rest of the tin was going in my "potpourri" jar, but thought I'd give it one more try. I pored the whole tin out on a newspaper and mixed it up this morning. I left a pipe bowl worth or for tonight to dry a bit. Just finished ... Read More
a bowl. MUCH better. could taste the latakia, perique and, yes, the rum came through just right. Lesson learned: Mix up your tins first (latakia and perique must not have been on top) before smoking and ALWAYS give C&D blends a third or fourth try. Not my favorite, but a very nice blend. Read Less

Product: Cornell & Diehl Cross-Eyed Cricket 2oz
Well, I love most of the C&D blends I've tried, but this is a failure out of the gates. Latakia? Perique? and the rum - only a hint now and a gain. I've tried this two nights as a first and last pipe without any change. Air and cardboard; no flav... Read More

Black frigate light
August 08, 2017
Product: Cornell & Diehl Cross-Eyed Cricket 2oz
The title says it all. I prefer black frigate, however, this will do when frigate is out of stock. The latakia is less pronounced than frigate, but the rum is more pronounced. On the plus side, it burns and packs really well while refusing to go o... Read More

I just finished my tin of Cross-Eyed Cricket and I thought it deserved a review. The tin note is overpowering so be warned. It's almost sickly sweet, but the experience of smoking it is so much better. Retrohaling gives me a vanilla custard impres... Read More
sion. This stays lit very well, produces a lot of rich smoke, and takes some effort to make it bite (and I'm prone to smoking fast.) I'd recommend this in lieu of dessert with a cup of black coffee. It is rich, sweet, and a treat all by itself. Read Less
