This tobacco became a daily smoker for awhile, and only recently really pinpointed why. I am a huge fan of the Three Nuns, and this Tobacco is a pretty good imitation. It’s not as strong as I would have liked, though not saying it was a good nicotin... Read Moree hit. The natural sweatness compensates for where this tobacco falls short. This blend piqued my curiosity based on the description so I ordered a couple of ounces to try. Over all not bad. A well balanced and well behaved blend, tho the spice of the perique did bleed thru heavily here and there.
Citrusy bright Virginia ribbon and musky, peppery balls of Perique is aggregated with big chunks of broken flake. The Burley has an almost graham cracker-like flavor to it when isolated. No need to fiddle with it, just pack and light (I did find an a... Read Morelmost entirely intact flake at the bottom of my bag. Still, the larger chunks lend enjoyable variation to each bowl.) The nicotine level is just right, but it can pack a punch after consecutive bowls (thanks to that tasty Perique). Turns out to be a pretty good daily smoke, though. Goes good with a cup of black coffee first thing in the morning. Read Less
Bulk purchase. Ribbon cut packs easily and lights well with a bit of dry time. Bag notes of sweet Virginia and some earthy burley. I notice the perique but it is far in the background for me. Starts off sweet, then settles into a mild Vitginia flavor. While it's mostly nutty, I get some citrus notes on a big draw. Not nearly as hay/grassy as Orlik, but you can taste the Perique in this one. The burley adds some nuttiness, but it is not ve... Read Morery noticeable unto itself.
Burns good and produces a good amount of smoke without a bite.
Orlik is still my fave, but this one gets a spot as a change of pace. Read Less
This blend stuck out to me from the first. It was the grassiest Virginia I had smelled in the tin. It was also the lightest coloured mixture I had purchased up to that time. I am not sure what my expectations were, if I had any, but I can say that ul... Read Moretimately I was not disappointed by this blend.
The somewhat unsophisticated tin note did not prepare me for the variety of specific flavours that the palate actually presents. It starts with grassy notes, and then develops into very distinct notes of green and black teas. It remained consistently herbal with some faint hints of fruit, but did turn ashy toward the end.
Mechanically, it could burn hot in light winds or with some steady puffing. But it packed so easily and lit so quickly that I could readily forgive such temperamental behaviour. Moreover, it burned down to a fine white ash with few, if any, relights required. Finally, the wife found the room note inoffensive, but not as favourable as other blends.
All in all, I enjoyed the company of these Three Friars. I have this on my list to buy again. I recommend this blend to smokers of all stripes. It may be too light for many, but it is worth a try.
Cheers to all! Read Less
A blend of tobacco that has a very natural taste. Burley and Perique color the body of Virginia. It is a typical Virginia & Perique body taste, but Burley exists as a blend condiment and combines weak cocoa and nut hints. From my smoking experience I... I can't readily say whether or not C&D's Three Friars is successful in its homage to the legenday tobacco that inspired its namesake, but I can say it is a solid smoking tobacco.
