I have tasted hundreds of tobaccos, and I am a Burley man all the way. For me, a pipe blend without Burley is not a pipe tobacco (ouch! I am sure that hurts on some ears...). After reading such glorious reviews, I thought I would try this blend. Yeah, it's that good. Nutty, creamy with a hint of spice from the Perique. Straight from the tin, no drying time, no relights. C & D Dark Burley is a fine smoke.

I'm a huge C&D fan, but I'm not as enthusiastic about it as the other reviewers. BF#1 is sort of like ODF without the dark-fired flavor, and it has some very nice qualities. It's a solid Burley blend right out of the tin, but I think some cellar ... Read Moretime will raise it to the same level as my favorite C&D blends. With BF#1, I was tasting mostly a very "raw" Burley flavor that didn't have a whole lot of depth; I could taste Perique, but the Virginias were largely overshadowed by a very strong—and what I believe is a bit too fresh—Burley taste. My main gripe is this "sharp edge" it has. It gives me a very unpleasant sting in the nose when I retro-haled/snorked (not the peppery Perique tickle but a sting), even as I was more than halfway through a large pipe of it. These are my first impressions after a week with it. Because of all the great reviews, and my mixed feelings, I will definitely be revisiting BF#1 again and possibly replacing this review with a new one. Final Note: Mixed it with Pirate Kake and the result was very tasty. Read Less
This blend tastes great, but man is it strong. Every time I smoke a bowl it kicks my butt. Great burley flavor with just enough perique to add a little spice. UPDATE: I have been reaching for this flake more and more, to the point where it is in my regular rotation. Yes it's strong, but man...the toasty burley vibe is out of this world. I like it better when it's drier, as that seems to enhance the flavor. Read Less
Good luck putting this stuff down, cause I can't!

I smoke a lot of burley’s and Va/per’s and this is a perfect combination. The Perique is about 35% and gives this blend that little kick of rich spice. The Virginia adds a perfect amount of sweetness, with the burley’s toasty nutty flavor it’s a repe... Read Moreat buy for me. Read Less

While I admit to not yet trying nos. 2-4, this no. 1 is certainly all it's reported to be. This is some excellent Burley. And if you retrohale that first puff, I guarantee you will immediately be wide awake. Definite reorder.

A very good burly virginia flake with some serious horsepower.
I'll start with the flavor which is every thing in the tin note transfered to the smoke. I'm no stranger to nicotine been a copenhagen user since I was in high school and yes I still have all my teeth lol. There is just enough Perique to notice in every puff. The Red Virginia seems to be there to moderate the Burley, but doesn't seem to contribute much flavor.
