Nutty, Oak, Black Pepper
February 03, 2020
Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #3 2oz
Burley’s are nutty, and deeply earthy; Dark Fired provides oak and black pepper; VA lends a little sweetness with a bready note; perique is tangy, mushroomy. Medium-strong nicotine, flavor and body.
Longtime favorite!

I see 2 star reviews and I have to set the record straight! I had my first bowl of this mighty tobacco back in 2012 and took to it immediately. It's one of my favorite blends. A new tin has a nutty, bready, sourdough note. The smoke is strong with ni... Read More
cotine and a robust fantastic nutty, tart, earthy espresso flavor. The Virginia comes in under the burley in every puff and dominates the end with a grassy sweet and plummy finish. Frequently even cigar type notes swirl around the dominant nutty, earthy burley, with just the far out faintest note of something I associate with Nightcap or Billybudd. It's a very full bodied smoke that can hit pretty hard. Make sure you have some food in your system. Smoke with a reasonable moderate cadence (because of nic not the bite). The best part of Burley Flake #3 is so little of this tobacco offers so much. In 5 minutes one can have a fantastic smoke in the smallest bowled pipe. It has a special place in my rotation because of that. Read Less
Nice Burley Flake

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #3 2oz
This is a nice smoking burley blend, in my opinion. Not as good as the #1 flake, but perfectly acceptable. I did learn from previous experience that the C&D burley flakes rub out and smoke much better after a significant dry out period, otherwise... Read More
it can become a stringy mess. I will always have some form of C&D Burley Flake in my rotation. Read Less

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #3 2oz
I had high hopes and opened the tin like a tyke on Christmas morning and was no less excited by the look and scent. When I packed the first pipe it was a disappointment. Simply seems too much abuse for very little reward. Nothing particularly or even... Read More
subtly enjoyable balances what to me seems acridity. Usually ash is the byproduct at the end of a smoke, but with this blend it is the characteristic from inception. However, my reverence for C&D is steadfast. Read Less
Tuff Smoke

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #3 2oz
This tobacco is tuff to smoke. Starts out great, but gets stronger towards the bottom of the pipe bowl. The bite can be somewhat heavy towards the finish also. I thought it might be me, but i tried repacking, smoking slower etc. I just don't about th... Read More

Great Strong Flake Tobacco

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #3 2oz
This stuff is very enjoyable for people who enjoy strong, rich, and not particularly sweet tobacco. It’s a robust, earthy, spicy, tobacco and if you’re into that, you’ll enjoy this quite a lot.
Mine arrived fairly moist and after some experimentati... Read More
on I believe this is best smoked fairly dry, just at the point where it doesn’t feel moist to the touch but is still fairly pliable and not brittle.
If you’ve got either a lot of time to smoke slowly or have recently eaten a meal and are well-hydrated, it’s very good in a large bowl. But if you’re short on time and just need a tasty way to get a quick tobacco and nicotine fix, this stuff is really great in those smaller portions.
Overall I’m very happy with this stuff, but it’s not for the faint hearted or those who don’t have much of a nicotine tolerance/need. Read Less

All c&d burley flake has an obvious defect. You will feel ashy after half bowl. But #3 is the best of 5.
