Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation: 1931 Flake 3.5oz Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-553-0003

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

1931 Flake honors the birth year of the second Erik Peter, grandson of the family patriarch, a larger than life person full of energy and excitement for his craft. His favorite tobacco was navy flake, and 1931 is a perfect example of his passion. It strikes a natural balance between superior Burleys and mature Virginias by using a small measure of Black Cavendish.

#1 On My List Right Now
August 20, 2013
Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Right now this is my favorite go to tobacco. Love this stuff. A great room note, little bit of sweetness and a solid backbone. The tin note is of very ripe dark fruit like raisin, plum or dark dried cherries.

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
I am not an experienced pipe smoker, but getting more experienced by the day, week, and month. A very nice gentleman at a pipe smoking club recommended 1931 to me- I tried it and was not too impressed at first. I went on and tried different tobacco... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
I bought this tobacco on a whim for the man himself. I needed a smoke for my Neerup Ida pipe and the aroma out of the can was subtle. I smoked it and fell in love with it the fist puff. A very mild smoke with heavy earthy undertones. It also has a ve... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
This is a very solid flake with a unique flavor and aroma. To me there is a bit of a floral tin note that transfers ever so slightly to the bowl. It burns nicely and creates an earthy, satisfying experience that is pleasant but not overwhelming. It’s... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
This is a good blend, but my first tin of this was age a few years. Lots of other people have compared it to Mac Baren Navy Flake, which is appropriate, because they have a similar flavor profile. I find MB Navy Flake has more casing and flavoring ak... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Not much more I can add. Probably my top smoke right now. Sure it's more expensive than macbaren, but so are many other flakes. I still smoke Mac navy, escudo, PS navy and luxury, and many more. 1931 is in my top rotation, great smoke.
Honey Sweet Bread and Hay

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Great room note. The flavor is honey sweet, bready and predominantly hay-like. The mouthfeel is ph neutral, smooth and creamy. The use of cavendish is really what sets this apart. This is my favorite smoke after eating a steak... the sweetness bal... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
Stokkebye is legendary, but this falls far short of real excellence. The cavendish really gets in the way of proper aging, and the burley just sits there, giving a sort of hollow woody note that doesn't really belong. Smoked new, it's really not good... Read More
