Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation: 1931 Flake 1.4oz

Product Number: 003-553-0015

"Erik Peter, my Father, was a larger than life person, full of energy and excitement for his craft. His favorite tobacco was navy flake, and 1931, this full-bodied smoke is a perfect example of his passion. It strikes a natural balance in the distinct characteristics of superior Burleys and mature Virginias by using a small measure of Black Cavendish to please true flake lovers."

#1 On My List Right Now
August 20, 2013
Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Right now this is my favorite go to tobacco. Love this stuff. A great room note, little bit of sweetness and a solid backbone. The tin note is of very ripe dark fruit like raisin, plum or dark dried cherries.

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
This is a good blend, but my first tin of this was age a few years. Lots of other people have compared it to Mac Baren Navy Flake, which is appropriate, because they have a similar flavor profile. I find MB Navy Flake has more casing and flavoring ak... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
I am not an experienced pipe smoker, but getting more experienced by the day, week, and month. A very nice gentleman at a pipe smoking club recommended 1931 to me- I tried it and was not too impressed at first. I went on and tried different tobacco... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
Not much more I can add. Probably my top smoke right now. Sure it's more expensive than macbaren, but so are many other flakes. I still smoke Mac navy, escudo, PS navy and luxury, and many more. 1931 is in my top rotation, great smoke.
Surprisingly amazing

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
I bought this tobacco on a whim for the man himself. I needed a smoke for my Neerup Ida pipe and the aroma out of the can was subtle. I smoked it and fell in love with it the fist puff. A very mild smoke with heavy earthy undertones. It also has a ve... Read More
My go to choice

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
This is by far my favorite Virginia flake. It has enough sweetness without being too sweet. Smokes great straight out of a fresh tin. I have not been disappointed with a 4th Generation offering yet. I am stocking up.
Decent Quality; A Little Flat

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
Stokkebye is legendary, but this falls far short of real excellence. The cavendish really gets in the way of proper aging, and the burley just sits there, giving a sort of hollow woody note that doesn't really belong. Smoked new, it's really not good... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
While not fond of Cavendish in general, and after a long hiatus from pipe smoking, I Tried this out in a meershaum calbash and was overwhelmed by the delightful complexity and mild manners of this smoke. The further I progressed down the bowl the mor... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 3.5oz
I anxiously awaited the arrival of this new offering and chose it above the other three offered in this series as I am a flake fancier. First let's start with appearances - from the outside in. The 100gm tin is identical in construction to Mac Baren'... Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
I don't get to smoke consistently enough to enjoy much that isn't aromatic, but this burley blend is excellent. Easy to smoke flake from the moment you open the tin. Will definitely be keeping this in the rotation. One note, do not let get too dry: b... Read More
Burley with a fruity topping

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.4oz
This tobacco requires a little more finesse to work the flavor, smoke too quickly and it losses a lot of it’s flavor (probably due to the topping evaporating). However if you take your time you are rewarded with a smooth satisfying burley. Would make... Read More
