This rope is a smaller diameter than the usual ropes from GH&C so the results coins cut off are very easy to prep and pack in the bowl. I find that if I cut it into 1/4 inch slices it unravels into a perfect ribbon cut with literally no rubout. From the bag it's a little most to the touch. I haven't tried smoking without drying... thus far about 20 minutes and it burn complete without any relights. Definitely worth a try.
As an addendum, I think that this and the Brown Irish X are the same blend just a different size... not sure why but if they're not the same they're darn close. Read More This appeared to be the polar opposite of the bulk of pipe smokers whole appreciate mild, subtle smoke. This IS NOTHING OF THE SORT. It's a very potent, rich, thick, and sometimes floral-tasting smoke. Paired with a strong cup of coffee, it's just about perfect.
It is true that it needs to be sliced and allowed to dry before smoking. I actually like this since I frequently travel so these ropes are ideal for me since they won't dry out. I usually just use my cigar cutter, laid on a table, to cut the stuff. I would give this a few hours before smoking, or simply cut what I think I'd smoke for a day and leave it in my pouch.

If you are one who likes to “play” with your tobacco, by all means get this “Twist” form of tobacco, you can spend countless hours “Slicing, Dicing and Drying” this “Twist” tobacco before it is ready to smoke. I admit I am a lazy pipe smoker so I didn’t find this necessary extra preparation exercise to be of any value to heighten my pipe smoking enjoyment. You had better have a sizable ignition source on hand because you are going to need a lot of BTU’s to get this “Twist” tobacco to light. Once you achieve the first ignition you will need to have your best “Tamping Tool” at the ready to handle the endless re-packings and re-lights that this “Twist” form of tobacco requires.
