Ennerdale from Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. is predominately Virginia leaf from Brazil, Zimbabwe and Malawi (86%) but with the addition of sun cured Malawi (10%) to add sweetness, strength and to cool the smoke and Malawi Burley (4%) to "carry the flavor" in addition to its cooling and strength qualities. A background flavor of Almond is enhanced with the addition of fruit, vanilla, and the special 'Lakeland style' flavors to give this tobacco its distinctive aroma and taste.
This is certainly not for everyone but if you're open to new things, why not give it a try? True to Gawith Hoggarth fashion, the flakes were flawless with just the right amount of moisture, ready for rubbing or fold and stuff, though I recommend a fe... I found this a pleasant break from an everyday smoke and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Read Less
I don't believe there is a middle ground with this blend, you love it or hate it... I love it, it's awesome... it's everything people said it tastes and smells like... a soapy grandma that was pouring a gallon of cheap flowery perfume on while eating... To an American palate, this certainly is something different. That doesn't mean that it isn't unpleasant. This is a very special tobacco. Not for everyone. If you don´t like the lakeland style tobaccos, stay away from it!!. Is very pungent and has lot of flavors from toppings, like vanilla and almond and, of course, that floral soapy taste that is typica... Read Morel from this tobaccos.
My first smokes were strange, trying hard to find the flavors of the tobaccos. But after a month or so, this baccy changed dramatically and became less pungent and perfumey. The Virginias and burleys are top class tobaccos.
And that´s the secret for this one: let it dry, put the tin opened apart for a month or more and it improves a lot!!.
Recommended for all of those smokers that like this kind of tobacco. Read Less

I gave this one a go because of all the talk about it. Worst decision I've ever made in my entire life. The flavor is purely of soap. If you were a foul mouthed child you'll probably have flashbacks. I really don't like giving bad reviews, particularly considering how subjective they are. But for those who don't like the taste if soap...let this be a warning. I really wanted to like this blend. I assumed many reviewers were right in claiming 'soa... Read Morep' is the wrong word to describe this Lakeland flavor. I thought that maybe the bad reviews confused the the scent of soaps with the taste of the bar.
For my part, growing up foul-mouthed I had soap in my mouth many times. That is exactly how I experienced the taste of this tobacco. I almost gagged. Worse, it lingered for ages. I tried other blends, mouthwash, a meal... the soap stuck to my tongue stubbornly for about two hours.
But many people do swear by this, and it does feel like it's one of those blends controversial enough to see what all the hubbub's about. I have. It faired poorly for me. Read Less
While I haven't yet found either a GH or SG tobacco that I didn't like, there was something particularly special about this one.
I just tried this for the first time recently, so only time will tell if I continue to like it as much in the future.
T... Read Morehe tin aroma is intense. The components of the topping are so well balanced that it is hard to pick out the individual components. The initial impression is that it is floral, but this makes way for more fruity and spicy elements on closer inspection.
This is a broken flake. The tobacco itself is not very consistent, with some large chunks of different types of tobacco. I personally like this in a tobacco as it allows for more complexity and variation throughout a bowl.
Not overly moist, and is easy to break up, rub out, or just stuff into your bowl.
Lights easily. May need a relight or two if not dried slightly before packing.
The flavour is much more subdued than the aroma. The tobacco becomes a major component of the flavour, but does not eclipse the toppings. Again, it is very well balanced, with the (most notably) virginia flavour melding perfectly with the flavours of the tobacco. The toppings are gentle enough in the smoke that I don't feel I will easily get sick of this like I can with some of the less subtly flavoured tobaccos.
The room note is much like a good quality incense, and shouldn't be too offensive to most non-smokers. Read Less
