The 1864 mixture consists of carefully selected Virginia tobaccos from the best tobacco fields on three continents. The balanced Virginia tobaccos are blended with fermented Black Cavendish and premium Burley from the USA, Malawi, and Mexico. A seductive flavor is added to ensure a generous and delicate taste - truely a Perfect Mixture from Larsen.
This aromatic has a lot of potential if you let it sit out and dry for about 30 minutes or so. The taste is sweet but not overwhelming and the smell is very appealing. The only negative to this tobacco is it does not stay lit very well, even after dr... Read Moreying time. All in all, I would give it a shot if you like aromatics Read Less
An extraordinary product...first of all,the presentation is in the premium class category considering the well produced canister and the impressive details and quality of the tobacco envelop and seal.
Second, the opening of the envelop is an experien... Read Morece in its proper merits...our nose is immersed in the most delicate scents; not a kick in the nose as other aromatic tobaccos with its excessive smells.
Finally, smoke is easy and pleasant as the pack opening suggests. I only had problems with a churchwarden, but discovered how to solve it...just not tighten as much as in the classic pipes. Read Less
I bought this on a whim, and so happy I did. It is now my favorite tobacco to smoke. Burns cool, tastes great, smells amazing, and isn’t wet. This is probably the first tobacco I really enjoyed since I started smoking a pipe. I’m about to order some ... Read Moremore. Read Less
Okay. I'm a big time aromatic smoker (i.e., tobacco with toppings) with the exception of a couple non-aromatics (i.e., 1882 Founder's Blend and the OTC Carter Hall), so, when I saw the high marks given on this, I had to try it. That said, it's got a ... Read Morereally great flavor, and I would have given it a higher rating if not for it being in the aromatic category. The reason is simple, it's too subtle in the topping department.
First, I do not taste even the slightest hint of chocolate, nor Irish Cream, however, I do taste a very mild orange flavor, but really only when I french inhale, and as a slight after taste when I'm finished smoking a bowl.
The actual tobacco in it seems of fairly high quality, and again, it's got a great flavor....i.e., a great tobacco flavor. And while there is a very nice, yet subtle, orange background to it, which I'll admit is very nice, there's simply not enough of it, in my opinion anyway, to be considered a typical, topped, aromatic. Someone in another comment mentioned Great Dane; now that is truly a great aromatic, and that's mainly why no one can keep it in stock. This one, even though the flavors are advertised to be very different, doesn't come close to that in the intensity department (for lack of a better term).
Anyway, I do think that if you are a non-aromatic smoker, you would thoroughly enjoy this one, because again, the tobacco taste is very nice, but if you are an aromatic smoker, it may be lacking in intensity. Read Less
W.O. Larsen is a brand with many positive reviews. Having never tried any of their selections I settled on "1864" based solely on description. It's not a bad blend by any means, in fact it is very much as described with a promising and plea... Read Moresant aroma and a mild to moderate room note. The tin is beautiful, and inside the tobacco comes sealed in a foil bag...very nice. So, why not 4 or 5 stars? Well, it was totally dried out right out of the vacuum sealed bag I unsealed myself. I'm not sure how this could have happened or if this is rare or typical of the brand. Personally, I would like to have tried this same mixture a bit moister. Overall, if the description sounds good to you and other reviews have led you to "1864", I'd say try it. If you have no issues with dry tobacco you could easily enjoy this "Perfect Mixture". If however, you like your aromatics a bit on the sweet and sticky side, you may want to try another. Read Less
