Mac Baren's Symphony is lovely composition of select Burleys, Golden Virginias, and traditional Cavendish blended perfectly to bring out the natural sweetness of the tobacco with slight hints of chocolate.
I don't care for Burley, but the guy that cleaned all my pipes loves the stuff,so I picked it up for him.I gave it to him last night at Pipe club, and he couldn't stop raving how flavorful it was,and he shared it with 3 other burley lovers and all of t... Great burley blend, reminiscent of the old school tobacco blends, just of much better quality. Tin note is that of tobacco. Very dark in appearance, it looks "rich" dark browns and reds with hints of black flecks here and there, roughly bro... Read Moreken/rubbed out, perfect for loading.
Smokes cool and dry. Slightly sweet. Hints of dark chocolate and nuttiness from the burley. No topping that I can detect at all. The flavor and sweetness is purely from the leaf. Burns well to a white ash upon a very small dottle. No discernable tongue bite. Satisfying nicotine hit without being overwhelming. Medium in body with a nice amount of smoke. The overall flavor is very subtle. Don't expect to be wow'd here with complex flavors. They aren't there - nor should they be; It's a burley blend. Flavor is VERY similar to PS cube cut burley, a tad richer and easy to keep lit.
A masterfully blended burley tobacco, a little VA and a little Cavendish is present, but the burley is the show here. A great all day smoke. If you're a burley fan I'd highly recommend it. Nicely done. Read Less
Symphony pairs top quality Burley leaf with a light honey/citrus flavor to make a mildly sweet, pleasant all day smoke with perfect smoking qualities. I smoke at least one bowl every day. As a 2-3 bowl-a-day smoker, that's a substantial part of my ... Read Morerotation. Read Less
Mac Baren Symphony is a decent natural ready-rubbed burley, Virginia, cavendish blend. I don’t taste the sweetness others mention, and it certainly doesn’t remind me of Mac Baren Burley London Blend (one of favorites) which I’ve seen it compared to. ... Not bad, not great. I get a little bit of chocolate in the tin note, but its subtle. In a cob, the chocolate comes through in the flavor, still subtly. The aftertaste is the typical Mac Baden sweetness, reminiscent of maple syrup, but not strongly. I... Read Moren a briar, the sweetness is greatly diminished, but that may be the ghost of a burley/perique blend I smoked in it previously, as the sweetness gets more noticeable with each bowl in the briar. I'm still experimenting with drying time and packing, but right now I'm having trouble keeping it lit. Needs some slight rubbing out prior to packing. Overall, a good all day, every day smoke that should improve nicely with age Read Less
Mild tin note of baked bread and something slightly citrusy and fresh. Easy to pack after drying for half an hour, even though you could smoke it from the tin. It's pretty nice. The star of this ensemble is the Burley Mac Baren uses. It's first chair quality. The blend comes together with a rich, creamy goodness that's hard not to love. There's the nutty flavors you'd expect, but also a tartness that I assume comes from the ... Read More(aged?) Virginia. The freshly opened tin can be a little overwhelming, quite strong, and dare I say, a tad harsh. But, aging changes everything! It's not until this has sufficiently spent hours in preparation that the show is ready for an audience. I guess I let mine age about 6 months (I'm terrible about waiting), after which I really got the “chocolate” essence and the sweetness of the VA came through. My impression at this point was similar to homemade chocolate chip cookies. But, far from being a confectionery aromatic, I see Symphony as a selection of natural tobacco flavors being expertly conducted. I'm not even sure I'd call this an aromatic? I also love the slow-burning properties of this blend which I attribute to the broken flake cut. Just the fact that the components were pressed, sliced, and ready rubbed for us shows the lengths Mac Baren went to in order to make this a success. Score! Read Less
Sometimes it taseted like honey and coco which was good, but other times it felt like hot steam which is obviously not my fault!! Seriously if you smoke slowly it’s good, but I’m not good at that and it’s windy here everyday, so probably not suitable... Read More for me. Read Less
