Peterson's Irish Dew is a luxury mixture of well-matured Virginias and toasted Burley tobaccos with whiskey and blossom fruit undertones. The sweet hint of vanilla and touch of chocolate arising from the toasted Burley give this tobacco an exceptional finish. The blend is pressed into cakes and rubbed out, enhancing the natural aroma of the tobacco.

A pretty simple blend. Burley dominant but the VA is definitely there. A bit snappy if you smoke it too fast. Has a nutty, toasty taste and a pleasant mild chocolate aroma. It's a bit one dimensional to me but something I enjoy to break the monotony.... Read MoreRead Less

Irish Dew is a very simple, but very, very delicious Virginia Tobacco. I found it to be my favorite tobacco for summer smoking, particularly on lazy Saturday afternoons in the shade. I find this to be the best tobacco I've tried that comes in pouches, and since it's so cheap, it makes a great blend to throw in a pipe roll or briefcase for odd occasions when I want a smoke. The smoke doesn't linger, and is overall very pleasant. There's a good, honey, apricot sweetness, with just a hint of spice. The room note is a lot like fresh bread and smoldering hay (maybe not the most helpful, I know but it's the best I can think of). I find that it goes delightfully well with Monkey Shoulder Scotch as well. I would love to get this in larger tins, or even bulk bags, but don't let the pouch stop you. It is well, well worth the price of admission. Read Less
I’ll first say that I’m an avid fan of Peterson/STG, as I am of Cornell & Diehl. I’ll try every blend these companies produce. Though this is supposed to be an aromatic, I could identify that vanilla and chocolate flavor only halfway through the bowl, and it proved elusive as it disappeared after no more than two draws, then returned about ten minutes later, then vanished and never again resurfaced for the remainder of the Group 5 bowl I was smoking. A recurring thought through the three bowls of Irish Dew I’ve smoked: “Did Peterson really blend this? I guess it did...” For the entire blend seems uncharacteristic of them, in terms of its quality. It seems more akin to cigarette tobacco than to its sisters, Irish Cask and Royal Yacht. Well, even the best actors often deliver a dud film, or a “bomb”. And even the best rifleman or gun expert can experience an FTF—a failure to fire, or a failure to feed. This is that moment for Peterson, I believe. 3.5 stars. Read Less

Per the description, I can definitely pick up the hints of vanilla and whisky as I opened the bag, and I also sensed some fruity undertones. (To me anyway.) The tobacco seemed to be about the perfect moisture content right out of the bag. Therefore it lit well and is staying lit well. Other than the second light after the initial of letting the tobacco grow and rest, I haven't needed to relight. Just tamp gently to get the ember down into the fresh tobacco, which is what you want. I found I needed to relight once or twice when I got close to the bottom of the bowl.
I could see this being a go to smoke. It's lightly aromatic, but feels like it fits in perfectly with mild non-aros too thanks to the Virginia and Burley. It's not heavily flavored and carries a bit of heft.
With these characteristics and the price point, it's a GREAT smoke!! I'm enjoying it mucho grande 😁 Stay smoky my friends. Read Less

Toward the end of the bowl, I started to get the pleasant feeling you get from the nicotine. It wasn't very strong, but it was certainly enough for me. I think a lot of people are disappointed with this because the description isn't really anything like the smoke - I must be honest, I could only taste the Virginia and didn't notice any hint of vanilla etc. However I'm not a fan of straight Virginia yet I keep coming back to this, so I must be able to detect something else.

The chocolate showed up faintly in the aftertaste, but I perceived absolutely no "vanilla" or "blossom" notes. If the taste and aroma is supposed to be light, then it has definitely floated away. The burley has a bit of a bite, but as a straight tobacco it is of good quality. I have found Peterson tobaccos to be either great or a bit non-distinctive. This is one of the latter.
