Samuel Gawith: Lakeland Dark 50g

Product Number: 003-059-0066

Samuel Gawith's Lakeland Dark is a powerful mixture, as it should be; it is in essence a tonquin-less variation on the famed (and very robust) 1792 Flake. Dark, smooth, and strong, it's well suited to a satisfying after-meal smoke.

A forum buddy of mine tuned me on to this one (among several others) as I had no intentions of ever trying it because I like 1792 Flake a lot and I enjoy the Tonquin top dressing so Lakeland Dark just sounded uninteresting to me. How amazed I was to ... Read More

Dark and strong dark fired Virginia and Kentucky (malawi?) Tobaccos with a brown sugar/molasses aroma that I enjoy. Beefy, creamy, smooth, thick smoke for the first half of the bowl, and then it gets stronger during the second half. At the bottom ... Read More

This is a man’s tobacco. I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. When I was a boy tobacco was still being grown everywhere in the county. The Amish and just about every other farmer in the state grew tobacco when it was still profitable. Dependi... Read More

There's a reason, I suppose, for this product being "sold out." It is a very flavorful smoke, strong initial attack without very much downside on after taste. Good room note. Gets even better after a couple of years.
If you want strong and dark this is the stuff!

Wow if you want strong and dark this is it! The tin smells incredible, something between rich leather and smoked beef jerky. Very very beefy smelling. When smoking the room smells like a beef jerky factory, not ashy or cigar like like some strong tob... Read More

This SG offering is outstanding. It has a deep flavor, with rich, thick smoke. One of my favorite go to tobaccos. It seems like it’s the base blend used in their scented blends, but without any essence added.

The Aroma reminded me of chewing tobacco. Drying time was needed. But for me I wanted strong nicotine WITH a balanced taste. I didnt get that from this blend. Not bad just not good for me. I suppose it may have been my expectations.

Being a huge fan of SG in general and having 1792 in my regular rotation when I heard rumours that Lakeland Dark is the same blend (less the casing) as 1792 I just had to order a few tins. I found it medium in nic strength with a strong flavor. The t... Read More

How have I not discovered this until now?! It is FULL flavoured and wow - some of my, up to now, top ten have been bumped down a slot. This is not a blend for the faint of heart. Give it a go if you've been looking for something BIG.
