Dark brown stoved Va flake, partly broken and ready for the pipe. The deep rich flavor does not fade outdoors. Full bodied and smooth, Campaign can be enjoyed both in the field and by armchair generals.

Just cracked open a nine year old tin of this wonderful tobacco. I do not normally post reviews, but in this case will make an exception. This is and has been great from the purchase, but put up a dozen or so tins nine years ago, only wish I had put ... Read Moreup more, perfection😊 Read Less
A bit like Astley's #44 and Buteras dark. Very good stuff that is rather underrated for some reason. It has no perique (like marlin flake but i understand the comparsion because otherwise they do share a similar taste). This is also a bit like sever... This tobacco is a very fine, quality product. Packs and burns nicely, not overly wet in a freshly opened new tin and dries well after opening.
The overall taste is oats, apricot and molasses. The rich sweetness ventures to the level of pronounced at... Read More the onset, but a mild darkness develops to balance the sugar out before it becomes overwhelming.
I find that I enjoy this most in a big bowled bent-billiard, the more the space the more mild the blend seems to smoke. I drink big draughts of the stuff this way, and although it is so good I that I tend to puff too often, burning the bowl is a concern but burning my tongue is not (and here I give the big bore Radice most of the credit).
In a smaller bowled apple the blend has a bit more punch. Either way, delightful taste with either a glass of cool water or unsweetened black tea. Read Less
I'm halfway through my first tin of it.
I've decided to give it a try, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I got pretty much what I was expecting, but also i got surprised by it's quality. I don't know why this tobacco is marked as non-flavoured, sinc... Read Moree there is a lot of casing or maybe even topping added to it.
Flakes appear visually similar to Orlik golden sliced and also smells similar. First part of the bowl, you can feel some "Danish" flavouring" which fades away and disappears completely at the middle of the bowl. And then something very strange happens. Floral aroma comes up to the front, as in the first lit of the Lakeland tobaccos. After the danish taste, this is awesome. Not overpowering, but pleasant. And this goes for about a third of the bowl, then the pattern changes and darker VA's come upfront, all until the end. Burns perfectly to white ash, comes in a perfect moisture condition ready to pack immediately, doesnt dry out easily and stays in perfect condition for a week or two. It's "danish" flavoured, Highly recommended from me. Read Less
I aways have wondered what all the fuss was about this flake. I've not been able to try it because it's ALWAYS out of stock. Finally got some and buddy was it ever worth the wait. This is just a beautiful flake from start to finish. The presentation, tin aroma, prep, burn rate, and rich flavor just reek of quality tobaccos. If I had to pick a perfect flake this one would definitely be near the top of the list. My biggest complaint is I wish it were more easily available than having near heart failure trying to pull the trigger fast enough through sp checkout! Read Less
This is a very well prepared Virginia flake with a sweet, tobacco flavor. Tin odor is a good Virginia aroma. The flakes were slightly sticky from the molasses or honey topping but rubbed out easily. It is biteless and smokes mild but delivers favorab... Read Morele nicotine content.
A slight harshness initially...characteristic of Virginias. After a relight (employing the DGT method) & a few more puffs, no more bite & this stuff provided pure, sweet Virginia flavor with a mild accent while still providing a pretty good nicotine boost. Packs easily & burns nicely & doesn't bite. An excellent Dark Virginia and much better than most. I thought it was better than Astley's No. 44 which I will avoid unless they change their recipe to reduce bite & find a way to produce a better, sweeter, flavor in their dark VA version.
If you like straight, dark Virginia, give Wessex Campaign Dark Flake, Brigade Series a try. I promise, you won't be disappointed if you like dark VA tobacco. WB Campaign is more pricy than similar blends but worth the extra $$. It provided a nice, sweet flavored smoke. A great blend with extras in my modest cellar. Read Less
As a person who loves stoved Virginias, if I could only smoke one tobacco, this would be it. While it has mostly the flavor profile you would expect from this type of tobacco, there’s a certain piquancy, almost persimmon-like, that’s unique to BCDF.
It's similar in style and presentation to Marlin. Age it, dry it, you know the story with Dark VAs like this. It's pretty darn good, even great. But you do have to be patient with it because it can be a little sour to start out. Give it time, lots of...
